Real test comes Sunday

The Green Bay Packers could not have walked out and placed the ball any better. A perfect drive to start to the season. However, as most golfers know, double-bogey can still be made from the middle of the fairway. The Packers face a tough shot this week with the San Diego Chargers coming to town. The Chargers were 14-2 last year but have gotten hammered by New England in two of their last three games, including last year’s playoffs. Demoralized or pissed off, that is the question.

The Packers may be flying high but they have been taking grief because it appears now that the two teams they beat, both playoff teams from last year, are not very good. What’s up with that? How many times did I say when the schedule came out that you can’t predict the Packers’ record because things change so much from year to year. Yes, the two teams they beat are 0-2, but one of those losses came at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. Win the ones you are supposed to win and you will go a long way.

I think the Chargers will be demoralized and not too thrilled to make another cross-country trip on a short week already. The Chargers didn’t exactly look like world beaters in their season opening win over Chicago, but the Bears offense without Thomas Jones is a threat to no one.  Not to go off on a tangent, but speaking of the Bears, why when they win a game with a special teams play are they are considered good, but when the Packers do, it is because we are lucky? Is it the color of our uniforms?

Anyway, I think the Chargers are beatable Sunday. As you know, I was worried about how the Packers handled the success of beating the Eagles. They proved me wrong by keeping their heads and hammering the Giants in the second half after trailing at half-time. Very impressive, but can they do it again? That is the question. Too early for my prediction, I’m 1-1 on the year, but confidence is higher after the rout of the Giants.

Easy money, lay the 4.5 points. Perfect storm – GBP fat and happy at 2-0 vs a very determined and much more talented Chargers team 1-1. Only way I’m wrong is if Norv Turner is really as bad a HC as his W-L record.

If this team comes in complacent at 2-0 with the Chargers coming to Lambeau, they deserve what they get. They should be screaming right now – lots of folks had us picked to go 1-4 again, and we have an honest chance to go 3-0. How much more motivation do you need?

We come to play and get a couple breaks, and it could swing. The o-line has to show up – control the line of scrimmage, and I think we can score enough points to win. Another 35 point performance should do it. No drops. No stupid penalties. No turnovers.

I can handle getting beaten by a superior team; let’s not beat ourselves.

Hey guys Green Bay is a pretty good team and while San Diego may not be the great team this year like they were last year they are still a pretty good team. So as Jon Madden would say “that leaves us with 2 pretty good teams this Sunday”. I don’t think anyone can predict the outcome of this game it could go either way. McCarthy has this team in the right spirits with a winning attitude. This game will be a true test for the Pack!

    Go Pack!

Pack loses big or Pack loses small, either way they will lose. Difference will be if they lose small, their confidence will grow. If they lose big, the 6 game win streak, the talk of playoffs and the idea that this team is close to contending again all become a bad joke. Pack better be careful and better come to play, there is a chance they could be beat 44-0.

I respect a man that can give his opinion but unless there is a profound change with injuries or the sorts there is no team in the NFL that is going to score 44 points against the Packs defense. Maybe the Packs young defense still hasn’t earned everyones approval as a top tier defense yet but I think they will in the weeks to come. I think whoever wins the mistakes battle is going to win this game. the question is can the Pack win the mistakes battle 3 weeks in a row?

  • Jeff

We did well in the last two weeks, but too much of our success was based on our competition not playing well enough to win: dropped passes, stupid penalties, turnovers. Yes, the defense is improving, and San Diego does not look like the team it was last year.

But I don’t think we can count on San Diego to beat themselves. I think it’s going to take more than mistakes to win this one.

This one will have to be won at the line. O-line has to protect and open holes. D-line and linebackers must stop Gates and LT. I don’t think the Chargers are good enough to beat us if we control the line, and I don’t think we’re good enough to beat them without doing it.

Yes – my ability to observe the obvious is incredible.

Folks gonna get annoyed at me I suppose, but I gotta say it. We’ve played ‘em to a standstill for three and half quarters. I still think we’re going to need a break to put this away. Still no run game at all.

Dumb penalty by Donald Lee on offensive PI – but the team shows lots of heart going straight back to him and converting on third and thirteen with good time for Favre.

Still playing well – there are times that San Diego shows flashes of being a much better team than at other times, but we’re still with ‘em.

    Go Pack!!!

Talk about a game that get’s a guys heart rate up. Man it was so awesome. Can’t wait until the Vikings next week.
