Vikings-Packers Game Blog

Here we go. Game day in the NFL. Lambeau Field. What not to love? I predict a Packers’ win today.

Wow, the Packers’ offense put together a beautiful drive capped off by a 30-yard touchdown by Ryan Grant. A very nice start. Then Mason Crosby made a huge mistake kicking the ball out of bounds. But the defense held and the Packers are back on offense first-and-ten at the twenty. Another long drive here and this game is in control at the very least.

It’s clear early that Favre is off target today. Three missed TD passes already. Thankfully Ryan Grant has been a machine thuse far. Big third-and-seven right here though. Jennings drops one of the middle, punt in the endzone and the Packers come up emty. Major screw-up there. Can’t waste opportunities against a team with a weapon like Adrian Peterson.

Defense holds again but a big punt and poor return by Woodson puts the Packers on their own 9-yard line. This is a critical drive. No turnovers and a few firsts downs. Even a field-goal would be huge.

A few first downs and more, into Vikings’ territory. Favre is warming up a little now, nothing down field yet, though, but looking better. This is where the Packers bogged down last time and now a penalty on Jason Spitz makes it even harder. That, my friends, is a drive killer. Ruvell Martin saves the day with huge 25-yard reception. Pro Bowl receiver Donald Driver missed a wide open catch at the 5-yard line. Got the field goal anyway, so I’m still happy. But now Driver and Jennings have dropped gimmies.

Now Robinson drops one in the endzone. This is getting ridiculous. This should have been a 28-0 game but now they are not even two touchdowns up. Far from over ladies and gentleman.

Things look much better now that the Packers took the opening kickoff of the second half 72 yards for a touchdown. If the defense continues its level of play this should be a cakewalk from here. With Peterson back there, that’s a big if.

Nice to see the Packers’ running game exploding against one of the leagues best run defenses. Grant is the first to gain 100 yards against them. Lets go defense. How about a defensive touchdown to ice this game.

The defense is up to the task. Stuffed the Vikings three-and-out in a dominate fashion. Like I told my buds, we almost need them to get a few first downs to give the offense a breather. The Vikings have only had the ball for 11 minutes halfway through the third. Amazing.

Another beautiful drive by the Packers pretty much puts this game on ice. Favre took a beating in that drive and hopefully they can give him a rest in the fourth quarter. It has been complete domination by Packers. How is that for positive?

Oh man! This is terrible. Adrian Peterson appears to be hurt and hurt bad. What a terrible thing to happen to this guy and to the NFL, not to mention the Vikings. It really looks bad.

Favre and Martin hook up again when Darren Sharper hits his own man who would have had a sure interception. Instead the ball bounces off the two Vikings and into Martin’s hands. What a day in Lambeau. 34-0 for the time being.

What a way to beat your arch enemy. The Packers should be the talk of the NFC. They have now won 12 of their last 13 games and seem to be getting better each week. Head coach Mike McCarthy had his best game plan of the year I think. To run the ball on the Vikings the way they did today has to be a good sign. Ryan Grant has two 100-yard games in the last three for the Packers. Who says they can’t run the ball? This offense is getting scary and this has to be the best defense Favre has had since 1996. That was a pretty combination back then. This has the makings of something special.

“I dare Brett Favre to go deep on us,” says Darren Sharper. Nothing sweeter than watching someone eat their words. Just watched the TD to Martin, bouncing out of the hands of two Viking defenders, one being the loud-mouthed Sharper. I love it.

Great game, finally one that didn’t leave me feeling drained – as though I’d played it myself! And AJ, kinda hard not to be positive today!!!

What a great game – and one I don’t feel totally drained afer watching! And Al, it is pretty easy to be positive after a game like that!!!

Everything was working for the Packers today. It gives you hope. I am afraid to believe my eyes. This team looks like they are for real. I will be crushed if they can’t keep this up.

For all of us out-of-towners, Fox really sucks. They switched over to the Eagles-Redskins halfway through the 3rd quarter. Do they really think that there are more people interested in that than in Packers-Vikings out here? Then, to rub salt in the wound, when that turns into a close, exciting contest, they cut away with a minute left so we don’t miss the Bears-Raiders kickoff (plus about a dozen commercials first).

    I gotta get the dish…

    14-2 is in the cards.

    “14-2 is in the cards.”

No doubt. With the running game starting to emerge, and a young team gelling, we should be playing for the NFC Championship.

    Steve,

I felt your pain on the Fox switchover. I really wanted to see that game finish. However, after I thought about it for a second, I was at least comforted by the fact that in Favre’s 17th season with a team of children surrounding him, by the middle of the third quarter they were still beating the tar out of the Vikes so badly that it wasn’t even worth it for FOX to keep broadcasting the game :)

This season is very reminiscent of the 1996 season. The Packers didn’t have much of a ground game till about this time back then.
With the dish, football is really an all-day-and-night thing on a Sunday.

A 6th round draft pick for Ryan Grant. We will see but Thompson might have totally ripped off the Giants in that trade. It was so fun to see the Pack totally blow out a team. Carolina should be a fun game to watch next week. The real game is when Green Bay plays Dallas in a few weeks. If the Pack wins the Detroit and Dallas game they are looking at possibly a 15-1 record. Sounds crazy doesn’t it.

Tough series coming up – Carolina on the 18th, Detroit on the road the 22nd and Dallas on the road the 29th. Who the hell came up with that schedule?

Living in Dallas and being a Packer fan is tough but watching the Packers keep stride with the Cowboys has been nothing but pleasing. Now that we’ve found a running game to go with our defense and passing game I think we have a little edge on the Cowboys. Funny how all of a sudden they are the talk of the town – no one’s saying anything about the Packers being a problem. Did you see that the Cowboys have Detroit the week after we play them? These next few games could really define who gets home field throughout – I think the Packers are the favor to end the season as the top seed for the NFC but will be solely based on the game with the Cowboys I believe. I like what I’m seeing each week now – hopefully we can continue the domination.
