Quarterback, defensive back round out round two

The Packers addressed their need for a backup quarterback and future starter at cornerback with the selections of Louisville’s Brian Brohm and Auburn’s Patrick Lee. The Packers have been in the market for a backup quarterback since Brett Favre retired and now they were lucky enough to get a good young quarterback in the second round when many experts thought Brohm would go in the first round. Lee was a one-year starter at Auburn but fits the mold of physical cornerbacks the Packers like. He should be able to play right away as a nickel back.

The Brohm pick is going to be highly criticized, but I think it is a good move. Aaron Rodgers is clearly expected to be Brett Favre’s successor but having competition is never a bad thing. Also, Rodgers hasn’t been able to stay healthy thus far and without a backup quarterback that can play, the Packers would be in big trouble. I would much rather have a young quarterback like Brohm on the bench than an old has-been who can’t play. I guess this ends the Daunte Culpepper negotiations. Being a second-round pick I don’t think there is any way Brohm will be the third-string QB.

Lee is an interesting choice but since all the top-rated CBs were gone, and the fact that the Packers don’t need a starter this year, giving time for Lee to develop, it could end up being a very good choice.

As a whole, I guess the Packers did alright on day one. Jordy Nelson is still a shocker, but who knows, I must admit is highlight film is awesome. Check it out at:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6B_VmbiR7o.

Can’t wait for day two.

More to come…

I’m cooled down now. Let’s pray “Double T” is right.

Why did the Packers draft 2 QBs and 2 WRs?

I understand Brohm, but the other picks seem odd. These guys could be very good players, but we’re only going to put 1 QB on the field at any time. We’ll put 2-3 WRs on the field for 95% of the offensive plays

It seems the writing is on the wall and Koren Robinson’s days in GB are numbered now that Favre is gone.
It also appears Rodgers favorite target, Ruvell Martin, could be on his way out.

Truth be told you never know where the next stud is going to come from. The Packers have plenty of guys who were late picks who just happened to turn out to be solid players for a number of years. Driver & Tauscher anyone ?

I don’t think we needed another wide reciever, but after watching highlights of this boy for the better part of an hour, there is NO denying that he has serious skills. One of my favorites was when he burned Aqib Talib against Kansas. He put a move on and flew by him. Aqib is one of the better corners of the draft, so that makes me confident that this white boy can do some damage for us in the NFL!

I don’t look to criticize TT for drafting 2 QBs and 2 WRs. I criticize him because with Driver, Jennings, and Jones, we are essentially drafting our 4th and 5th receivers. And Flynn could turn out to be a good pick, but gosh, Brohm and Culpepper could have been MORE than enough security at that position. Just imagine that 1st pick being a talented CB or S? And then you pile on the rest of the defensive guys, that would have helped us to the SB this year.

But then again, we must respect TT, as if he’s the Ron Wolf.

It seems to me that receivers take a while to develop at the NFL level, so taking Jordy is for two to three years down the road when DD will probably be gone or seriously fading.
