Just for the record…

…I’m not watching tonight. I’d like to keep my dinner down.

  • Ben Dover

Hmmmm……you’d rather listen to hearsay than the man himself. Let me guess, You’re a republican ?

  • Jake

    Your diner or your dinner?

If you own a diner, where can I go to much on some grub Al? Is it a Packer diner? Mom and pop diner?

What type of Diner are we talkin’ about here?

  • Jake

There goes me being a smart ass…haha

did brett not make any friends with the local media in 16 years? i mean just one guy to talk to instead of espn, fox, biloxi and whatever else? regards from texas a.j.

Personally, I love a GM who takes a 4-12 team on the decline and puts them in the NFC championship 2 years later. Before anyone gives all the credit to McCarthy, remember that TT hired him too, and it was without the blessing of a lot of “fans”. On the other hand, I love Brett too, I always have and I always will. He just seems to be so full of himself that he thinks he’s bigger than the team now. I’m more frustrated with him right now than I ever have been with my wife when she can’t make up her mind about something. There are 80 other guys on the team who have committed to play this year and are attending camps, OTA’s, working out in Green Bay, etc. Why does he think he doesn’t have to do what the other 80 guys on the team are doing? Heck, Ryan Grant doesn’t have a contract and he at least showed up to watch and learn what he could. Brett already pulled this crap 3 years ago and he sucked that year.

I don’t get this “future of Favre” or “future of the Packers” stuff. What would be so wrong about letting Favre come back and prove he’s the better QB or making Rodgers prove he’s the man? Isn’t “best man wins” the heart and soul of sports?

Arguing for the “future of the Packers” would seem to suggest we start Rodgers no matter what. So we give the job to the possibly inferior QB in the hopes that he might end up being more durable than the last three years have shown?

Favre has always been something of an overgrown adolescent and needed a steadying hand. It’s the one major criticism I have of TT – he does not seem to handle the interpersonal aspects of his job very well. Maybe that’s unfair since I’m outside looking in, but that’s the way it looks from out here.

  • Paul

I believe Favre and Rodgers should both fight for the starting job…..obviously we know who would win that battle…..so what is Favre afraid of, (or Thompson)???????

  • JeffN

Al, your Brett Favre blogs always get the most posts. Now quit threatening that you are done with Brett and write another blog on him.

I can see both Brett’s side of things and the Packers. It’s just how things are. People need to start accepting it.

The only thing I’m disappointed about is that he interviewed with Gretta last night! Now that was just one big disappointment.

Favre made a decision to retire and he must pay a price for that decision. The idea he has that he can continually waffle when at the heart of a complex, multi-million dollar business and still end up with the starting job or an unconditional release at any time is ludicrous. Sorry, Brett, that’s life in the big city.

In business, usually it is better to make any decision than be indecisive. What this means is that once you committ to a plan, you stick with it and usually things work out alright even if it wasn’t the “perfect” decision. The Packers are a business. What they need to do is to committ to a plan and stick with it. If they go with Rodgers they will probably be fine. If they go with Favre they will probably be fine. The worst thing you could do is to perpetuate a circus. The fans will second guess no matter what happens as they have the benefit of hindsight. It’s important to define the leadership of the team and have everyone go in one direction. I like how TT is handling a very difficult situation.

I’m a lifelong Packer fan. Born and raised in Wisconsin. I’m a Packer stockholder. I have a full sized Packer helmet autographed by Brett Favre. I love the guy as a player and for all he has done for the Packers. Having said that, I wish he would stay retired. He has plenty of time to make up his mind, and more than once told the Packers he was done. The Packers have moved on, and rightly so, with Rodgers as their QB.

I’d hate to see Favre in another uniform, but I’d rather see that than have him come back to the Pack and knock Rodgers out as starting QB. It’s not that I think Rodgers is a better QB than Favre, or that Favre cannot get the job done, but it the principle involved. Favre retired, the Packers more than once asked him to come back, but he wouldn’t guarantee he’d give 100%. The Packers had no other choice than to move on.

What Favre is doing now will tarnish his legacy. He should shut up, get used to retirement, and stop damaging the Packer organization and hurting the fans.

So it’s “Screw you, Brett. You made your bed. Now lie down in it.”

    Nice.

I’m done with this crap. Whomever is the starting QB at game one gets my backing. If he gets crushed in the first quarter of that game and the other one comes trotting in, I’ll back him too. If he gets smacked down and Brian Brohm gets pressed into service, I’ll go with it. If Brohm and Flynn both get smoked and we manage to convince Vinny Testiverde to come out of retirement again, I’ll still tune in and cheer for the games.

In the meantime, this is just too much BS to ingest over an entertainment that hasn’t even started training camp yet. See ya!
