Thompson has support of Executive Commitee

If Ted Thompson is worried about all the bashing he is getting from Brett Favre in this Brett Favre instigated ordeal, he can take heart in that his bosses are strongly in his corner. According to JSOnline as most of you have already read, Peter Platten III, President of the Packers’ Executive Committee said in part “we wholeheartedly supported him. There was no disagreement.” We as in the committee and him as in Ted Thompson.

Platten also said “I look at this as a no-win situation. In the end we need to do what’s best for the Green Bay Packers. And that’s what we’re going to do.” What can possibly be wrong with that?

Now, after make noise the last two nights on national television with the Fox interview, Favre, through his agent said they have no plans to file for reinstatement at this time. Maybe Brett is coming to his senses and retires after all. Obviously, he can’t just walk into a another team’s training camp halfway through and expect to have a great year. The rule says he has until week six of the NFL season to change his mind in order to play this year. Can he help somebody at that point? What could the Packers get for him then?

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of Favre….

By the way, as anyone noticed that the Packers haven’t signed any of their draft picks with training camp opening ten days from now? What is up with that?

  • Michael Legat

Deep, man. But you still haven’t explained why Favre is so great.

  • Jon

Oh yes I have; only you’re too blind to see.

  • Pete H

you haven’t justified how he isn’t

  • Larry

Lets throw a new element into the BF discussion. Did BF use a company cell to talk to Vikings? Why if he wants to play for the Pack so badly? He says hes going to report so why not let him? Lets trade him and find out if he really is 100% commited to play (any where). We really dont have anything to lose at this point since we all thought he was retired anyway. He has jacked us around for a few years now, hasnt he?

    Jon,

You still haven’t explained if Favre is so great:

1.) Why is his record in a dome so terrible?
2.) Why can’t he beat the Dallas Cowboys?
3.) Why is his preseason interception ratio so much worse than Bart Starr, John Elway and other more deserving Hall of Fame candidates?
4.) Why Favre was mostly aided by what I like to call the “Bill Schroeder” effect, which is where any quarterback that plays with former WR Bill Schroeder instantly elevates their game. Was it all Favre or was it Schroeder that made him look good?

I challenge you to refute all of these claims and use backing statistics and evidence to support your argument.

  • Larry

Gee, Jon, I’ve got a great bridge to sell you, cheap. I guess it really makes sense Wells would get one but not Brett. I’d bet they all have them and none count towards the cap. Anyway he said, she said….No matter who paid for the phone where theres smoke theres usually fire.

BF did help to transform the Packers…..back when he could lead a team. When he was younger and more driven, the packers did better. Saying he carried the team is ridiculous, though.

Does anyone remember our receiving corps last year? With those kind of guys downfield, I could have taken the team to the playoffs.

Go to a “Bring Back Brett” rally and STFU.

  • Jon
  • Zach

    lolz….

Brett won’t be our starting QB, get on with your life.

  • Oconomowockid

Thompson lovers get on with your routine. Favre was and may still be a great quarterback. Ted won this battle of egos and Brett needs to move on. Thompsoniacs, will face their biggest test this fall. If Thompson is an ego filled genius, we will all celebrate on our return to the NFC championship game. If we flounder and do not get back to the NFC championship game. I will remind you of all your steadfast support for Lambeau’s village idiot. No second guessing, no the schedule was much tougher, no if AR just wouldn’t have gotten hurt. Super Bowl or bust, right boys!!

  • Larry

Fact is BF not worth 12mil in GB. Tampa/Carolina maybe, but not at sold out Lambeau. TT and Murphy have to make a business decision on this one. Look for that money to go into the DL via free agency. TT will spend if the value is out there.

  • Jon

    Larry,

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard in years. Thompson is not interested in winning a Super Bowl this year with a team that was on the cusp of the Super Bowl last year; he’s interested in maximizing PROFITS? Wow. You just proved that what all this Favre hating is about is something other than what’s best for the Packers on the field.

  • Pete H

I Thompson was so interested in building the D-Line through free agency then why did he trade a pro bowl caliber one???

  • Larry

I’ll answer both of you. I said nothing about profit, thats not the game in GB, but rather investment in personnel. I find it hard to believe you would think TT would trade a pro bowl caliber D for a draft choice. Wow, thats pretty stupid. We’d better get rid of TT right now.

    TT

  • Pete H

He traded Corey Williams for a second round pick already!!!!! That pick turned into Brohm…a QB that Thomspon, quite frankly, hopes never sees the field!

  • Pete H

    OOOOPS HUH?

  • Larry

Nah; I like Brohm a lot. Tougher to have a stable of good QBs than DL. Besides nobody can double team Pickett and Jenkins both in the base four w/ Montgomery and Kampman outside. If one of them goes down we’ve got four starting caliber LBs to temporarily go to a 3/4. I think your selling TT short.

  • Pete H

I get your point, but the problem is that we truly don’t have any idea if we have any good QBs. They could just as easily be Matthews, Wuerfel, Shuler etc.. Don’t get me wrong, its hard to complain when you see what has been accomplished since Sherman wrecked the place. My only concern is that he seems to be too focused on the success having to come from his picks and having to always go younger when available. You look at the past however long..since the Pack got Reggie…and the ring wearers almost always have had major contributions from the free agent market or traded for vets.

  • Maxaz1

    MM caves to TT

We go 5 Wins 11 losses with Rogers. End of Story.

  • Larry

Pete, point well taken, but are you old enough to remember our 1st round QB picks like Rich Cambell, Don Horn, and Randy Duncan. I really feel TT is a hell of a lot smarter, with a better organization in place than those days. I think these 3 are going to be around for quite a while and while they maybe TT picks his job depends on his success in the draft.

  • Jon

Well, well. There is now NO question that Teddy Thompson does NOT have the interests of the TEAM at heart. Sports Illustrated is reporting this morning:

“Favre said he was led to believe he would not be allowed to compete for the starting quarterback job with Aaron Rodgers.” http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/07/27/favre.camp.deadline/?eref=sircrc

Can you believe that? Teddy won’t let Favre compete with his boy Rodgers? Why? Because he doesn’t want to see his boy Rodgers lose?

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Packers are being run by a prima donna LOSER.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

Cry me a river. Since when is 14-4 a losing season? I’ll take the NFL’s General Manager of the Year’s word. By not bringing Favre back he proves he DOES have the best interests of the team at heart. He wants to win a Super Bowl and knows Rodgers gives the team a better chance than a perennial playoff loser.

So long Brett. Thanks for the memories, but it should have been so much more.

By the way, why aren’t you jumping on McCarthy? 12 times he said yesterday that Rodgers was the quarterback. I’m sure he had some say in this matter. The coach wants a quarterback he can win a championship with and apparently that was not Brett Favre. Brett’s measly three playoff wins in the last ten years and his declining play at the end of last season made the decision easy. Maybe Favre can land a Quarterback/GM role somewhere.

Kind of funny how the entire league knows Favre is available and yet nobody wants him unless they get him for free, and even then he will only have a few suitors. Tells me the rest of the league sees the same things Thompson and McCarthy see.

You are so clueless about football, only in a free country could you get away with running a football website. Why don’t you direct your readers to your 3-13 prediction record last season? Or was it 4-12?
