Favre needs to just go away

I’m sick of Brett Favre. Pure and simple. He is a little baby that has never done anything wrong. His latest tirade on ESPN is further proof that he thinks he is the greatest quarterback in the NFL. A legend in his own mind. I worshipped the guy for 16 years and now I find out he is nothing more than a big baby. Brett, go away mad, Brett please go away.

If you think for one second that Ted Thompson said “Brett, you can’t do that – you’ll get me fired”, I have a bridge in Green Bay for sale. Favre is so far off his rocker it is not even funny anymore. Anybody who thinks he is not bipolar is worse off than Favre himself. Favre admitted to talking to the Vikings head coach Brad Childress and pretty much made the case for the Packers to win the tampering charge. Favre is dumber than a box or rocks. Why is Favre asking Vikings coach Brad Childress if he thinks he can still play? Sack of hammers mabye? Whatever. What an idiot.

I have never seen such a classless person than Brett Favre. Maybe that is how all people from Kiln, Mississippi act. Maybe that is the norm. All I know is that one of the greatest iron men in NFL history is the biggest wimp in the history of the league. Cry me a river Brett, cry, cry and cry some more. I will still worship Favre’s accomplishments to the Packers and enjoy watching the highlights and knowing I was at every home game he ever played, one of the greatest of all time no doubt. But now I will also know him as a little girl who was more worried about himself than the team, which explains why he has only one Super Bowl ring

I say ship him to Minnesota. And let me play defense opening day. The iron man streak will come to a quick end. The winningest quarterback in NFL history is also the leagues biggest loser. Simply unbelievable. If Favre wanted to fuck the Packers over, he sure did. All I ask for is five minutes alone with Favre. He wouldn’t play football any more, that is for sure.

And if you don’t like my view, don’t visit Packernet. I could care less. Packernet will survive as long as I want it to survive. I’m a Green Bay Packers’ fan and will always support the team. The team is going with Aaron Rodgers so that is where my support is. Not once in three years did I hear Rodgers complain about playing behind the baby, even though he may have thought he should have been playing. Rodgers has shown more class in his three years here than Favre did in 16 years. The Packers are Super Bowl bound in my mind.

I wonder what Javon Walker and Sterling Sharpe have to think about this. Favre calls them out then turns around and does the same shit. What a hypocrite. Of all the ways to go out. All I wanted was for Brett to be a Packer forever. Now it might be years before the Packers to retire Favre’s number. What is next? Is Favre going to attack Bob Harlan? This is it for me. Favre is dead in my mind. I’m looking forward to a Super Bowl run in 2008.

Go Pack!!!

  • He Who Is Right

Huh. Full circle. Why don’t you get ahold of Ted and make the Vikings thing happen?

And such language! Do you eat with that mouth? Good luck, buddy.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

    I don’t need luck. I pretty much don’t care anymore…

  • jonnyfootballhero

I really can’t believe that you’re so ready to kick Favre out. He is a known winner! He was a main reason that the Packers were in the NFC championship game. I know he threw the interception, but there were other factors in that game that helped them loose (Al Harris).

Franchise QBs don’t come along all that often. Rodgers isn’t a gaurantee. Hell, my feeling are that he won’t make it out of the preseason games without incurring a major injury. So Favre is a premaddona, what superstar isn’t? I say if he wants to come back and play for the Packers, let him. He’s a proven winner!!

  • Jon

Al, you are a disgrace to football fans. Just because Brett didn’t blow you a kiss when you were in the stands squealing wearing your Bart Starr jersey doesn’t mean he doesn’t like you.

  • http://orlando Mark

Wow, way over the top. I don’t think TT ever wanted Brett or Mike Sherman. He’s too good a judge of talent not to know his gaurds weren’t NFL caliber and that drafting Rogers would be no help. He left the team and Farve with no chance. He was building for the future and he knew that wasn’t going to include Brett. He didn’t go after the best reciever since Jerry Rice because he didn’t think we were that close to a championship. And, without Grant and Farve he would have been correct. I’m a Packer fan too and I want him to succeed. If he can get a good draft pick for basically nothing he should do it, even if he can get something from this tampering deal. But blaming everything on Farve, including the loss to the Giants is just wrong.

  • Jon

It’s pretty clear now that Teddy is a liar.

When this whole mess started Teddy said Favre would have to compete with Rodgers for the QB job if he returned to Green Bay. Al and all the other Teddy groupies squealed with delight in agreement.

Now that Favre called Teddy’s bluff yesterday and said he wants to return to Green Bay, Teddy was forced to say Favre can NOT compete with Rodgers for the job. Read this from one of Al’s very own linked articles:

“Favre asked the Packers on Saturday whether he could come in and compete for his starting job with new quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, Favre was rebuffed. ‘I said, Let me compete, you know I’ll win this job, and Ted said again, Brett, things have changed. Aaron Rodgers is our quarterback,’ Favre told ESPN.com.” http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080727/PKR01/80727004/1057/PKR&located=RSS

So, back when Teddy was saying Favre would have to compete with Rodgers for the QB job, he was LYING, plain and simple.

So what’s Al response? He is PEED OFF, man. But, PEED OFF at Teddy for lying? NO! He’s PEED OFF that Favre has shown Teddy to be a liar!

Good job, Brett. Even if I never see you play again, I will be forever grateful for showing us all what a liar Teddy is.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

Funny stuff. What color is the sky in your world?

  • Dan

I don’t understand why everyone loves guys like Forrest Gregg and Don Hutson.
    Forrest Gregg retired 5 times.
Don Hutson retired after each of his last 3 seasons. Even came back 48 hours before the opener in his last season.
Even Vince Lombardi regretted his retirement decision when training camp came around.

It’s fine for the Packers to decide to move on. If they feel they are better without him, there is nothing wrong with them deciding that. However, they should look at the Packers long history and remember the organization has always tried to treat it’s heroes with respect.

When Reggie White retired, the Packers granted his release request. Because they felt they owed it to Reggie for everything he did for the organization.
Last year, when Henderson felt he could still play, Thompson said it was to give Henderson a chance to catch on with another team.

Clearly, the Packers want to move on. Just release Favre. It’s the best for everyone involved. Yes, fans will second guess the decision. That’s part of being a Packer fan. We love our team and all think we know what’s best. The one thing that has always set the Packers apart from other organizations is the way we’ve treated our legends. Let’s continue the tradition and let Favre go.

If the Packers believe they are better off without Favre, they have nothing to worry about. Releasing Favre proves the Packers are a class organization.

  • Steven

what Super Bowl you won’t see another one in the next 20 years. Your in love with TT and hes taking the Packers down the toliet. He can’t even sign Grant without Favre and grant they will be luckly to win a game. Good luck in 2008

  • Nerdmann

Favre engineered this whole thing to get back at TT. He’s pissed of, because TT won’t let him be GM. We’re better off without Favre. He can’t hack it in the cold, and he is proving that he cares more about himself than the team. Plain and simple.
And Rodgers is gonna light it up. Mark that down.

  • matt

Finally someone in the media admits that Favre wasn’t the reason that the Packers won a Super Bowl.

I absolutely love the straight talk. No bias, no fluff, no crap.

    Go Pack!

  • matt

This issue has made me nauseated. The Packers don’t owe it to Favre to release him. If he doesn’t want to play for the Packers then trade his butt. If he wants to play for the Packers then don’t let him practice and sit him on the bench. I wouldn’t even let him dress for the games. I’d like to puke all over the premadonna.

    Go Pack!

  • matt

And what about this Alan Herman? He is the biggest crybaby of an agent I have ever seen. Frankly, I would be embarassed if we represented me. Alan was burned this week because he was talking about a monster deal with the Packers during the entire off-season. Wah! Wah! Wah! Let Ryan Grant play for more than eight games before he gets a huge deal. The Packers said they take care of their and they demonstrated the manner is which they do that this week: they signed Poppinga to a contract extension after he has been manning the trenches for four years. I can’t believe Herman has the nerve to compare Poppinga’s signing bonus to a player that has only played eight games for the Packers! Does Aaron Rodgers have the right to demand a new contract because he had a great game against the Cowboys and has shown leadership this off-season? No. Give me break! The employees have a tremendous opportunity to make a king’s ransom to play a game. Suck it up, play consistently for another year or so and some team with take care of Grant. Whatever happened to earning your keeps!

I don’t want to hear it from the whiners.

Go Pack and Say Yah to Da UP Eh!

  • Larry

You build a team through the draft, with a FA and a trade thrown in once and a while. TT, Wolf, and others have proven it many, many times. An exception maybe once in a while like when the greatest #1 pick of all time (Hershall Walker) made the Cowboys of today (but not until traded to the Viqueens). I dont know who the real Al Davis is; is he a Packer or Raider? Way off into the deep end Al. One man a team does not make. Gosh get off Harrells back, he hasnt played yet. Point is #1s are overrated anyway. Think OLs Tony Mandarich or Mark Koncar. DBs Terrell “I can cover anybody” Buckley and Ahmad “I can keep my hands on anybody” Carroll. How about DEs Jamal Reynolds or Alphonse Carrekker. Its a crapshoot! We did make a pretty good pick at #17 once though. Point is TT and MM seem to know what they’re doing overall, time will tell of course. Lets move on with some common sense.

  • Pete H

Problem is that all of those #1s that you pointed out have cost the Packers dearly in the future. How is it that only Dan here has made sense. This whole line of posts is all about “guarantees”. How good Rodgers WILL be, how bad Rodgers WILL be. We just don’t know. By the way…who cares what Stephen A. Smith thinks?? Haven’t you guys picked up on the fact that these guys are simply looking for viewers, readers, etc. Whatever causes controversy. Sal Pal, Smith, wherever. These are the same guys who stated that until Brett isn’t the opening day starter for Green Bay they won’t believe he is retired..then he does, they report on it ALL DAY EVERY DAY and then they’re sick of it?? I am sick of it too, but its their frickin fault. The whole retirement issue was media driven from the beginning 3-4 years ago. I hate when the press tries to make themselves a story. This is all BOTH of their faults (TT and Favre) it was all handled miserably! You people all hate someone who just wants to play again and do what he has been doing for probably the last 25 years. Has he gone about it in exactly the right way? NO …so what!!! Al, to compare Favre with Walker is poorly done. Favre actually wants to play for his contract, Walker sat out after 1 good year…ala Grant…then got hurt for the season….then sat out again. Yep, that sounds like Favre! Is there a sky in your world? Maybe you need some fresh air! TT has just simply put himself in a position, and Rodgers, that they have to win now. He can’t use the growing pains excuse for losses. He can’t say the “moving forward” thing because forward means Super Bowl. When you have the same roster that got to a C-game, forward is the Super Bowl. Anything else is backward. I agree that they should still win at least 10 games, they are a good team!! I like Rodgers, but TT has left them no outs and I think that kind of pressure might just send Rodgers packing anyway. Sure they could tag him, but TT is showing to look awfully cheap..even if this is his guy!!

  • Pete H

On second thought, you’re right Al. Anyone who would check themself into rehab, NEVER HOLD OUT, play every game (good and bad), play the day after his dad died, shave his head insuport of his wife’s cancer fight should just be taken out back and have his hamstrings cut right Al? Isn’t that what you meant by wanting to line up against him? I would like to see that. I get the feeling we would be referring to you as Mr. Hawking after that day. Take a look in the mirror boy when wanting to hurt someone

  • Jon

Favre had nothing to do with Green Bay winning the Super Bowl in 1996?

Wow! You have to be completely ignorant to say something like that.

    How’s this:

    1996 Super Bowl – Favre – 14 comp / 27 att, 246 yds, 2 TDs, 0 INTs
Plus, FAVRE RAN FOR A TD HIMSELF!

Thus, Favre PERSONALLY ACCOUNTED FOR ALL 3 TOUCHDOWNS BY GREEN BAY’S OFFENSE IN THE 1996 SUPER BOWL! The other Green Bay points that day were 2 field goals by Jacke, a kick return for a TD by Howard, and – oh, I almost forgot! – a 2-point conversion pass from Favre to Chmura! (there’s that Favre guy again).

So to recap, in the 1996 Super Bowl, Favre personally threw 2 touchdown passes; personally ran for 1 touchdown; personally threw a 2-point conversion pass; and had 0 interceptions. That’s a terrific performance by the standard of anyone but the most obtuse Favre-hater.

Indeed, compare that performance by Favre in the 1996 Super Bowl to Elway’s dismal performance in the 1997 Super Bowl. In the 1997 Super Bowl Elway was coming off three (3!) consecutive Super Bowl losses, was heading for his fourth Super Bowl loss, and DESERVED a fourth Super Bowl loss based on his dismal performance that day:

    1997 Super Bowl – Elway – 12 comp /22 att, 123 yds, 0 TDs, 1 INT

Elway fairly sucked in the 1997 Super Bowl (I know that hurts to read, Al). The Broncos won that day because they ran all over the Packers’ aging defense: 179 yards rushing, 4.6 yds per carry.

And for the record, Favre had a great day again– much better than Elway – in that 1997 Super Bowl:

1997 Super Bowl – Favre – 25 comp / 42 att, 256 yds, 3 TDs, 1 INT (Favre’s INT was in the first half; Elway’s INT was in the second half)

So, contrary to the “spin” of the Favre-haters that he “didn’t step up” in his two Super Bowls, in fact in both he played very well, indeed nearly flawless. He totally outplayed Bledsoe in the 1996 Super Bowl and totally outplayed Elway in the 1997 Super Bowl.

This comparison of Favre’s performance to his opposing quarterback’s performance in the 1996 and 1997 Super Bowls – he played far better than both – proves once again that football is a TEAM sport. For despite Favre’s superior performance over the opposing quarterbacks in those two Super Bowls, Favre won one and lost the other.

This “team” concept is something football “fans” like Al – as opposed to people who have actually put on a pair of shoulder pads – don’t understand.

  • Larry

You just dont get it! Last year was a journeyman year not worth 12mil. ’96 and ’97 dont count. Marino, Elway, even Unitas and Starr dont count. None of us are BF haters he had a great career, emphasis had. Evidenced by the fact that nobody is beating down GB doors to get him.

  • Jon

    Larry,

If “96 and 97 don’t count”, as you say, why didn’t you say that in response to the comment by “matt” above that “Favre wasn’t the reason that the Packers won a Super Bowl”? Huh? Why were you silent as to matt’s comment on “96 and 97″?

I’ll tell you why: because for ignorant Favre-haters like you, “96 and 97″ are OK to talk about as long as it is a slam on Favre; but as soon as someone points out the FACTS on “96 and 97″, all of a sudden “96 and 97″ don’t matter.

    Right? I got your number, don’t I?

  • Jon

“nobody is beating down GB doors to get him”

If you read the sports news (other than this site; this site is not news), you’d know the consensus around the NFL is that Thompson is asking WAY too high a price for a 39-year old QB.

On the one hand Teddy tells the Green Bay nation that Favre sucks and a limp, unproven Rodgers is better, and then turns around and asks other NFL teams for a first round draft choice! The other NFL teams aren’t stupid; they’re holding Teddy to his official position that Favre sucks!

  • http://www.packerpalace.com BeerKid

“the consensus around the NFL is that Thompson is asking WAY too high a price for a 39-year old QB.”

Asking a first round pick for a starting QB in the NFL is too much to ask… got it. Why do you want this value-less player to be the starting QB on the Packers then?

It’s become really obvious that BF had zero intentions to ever play for the Packers again, and he’s following through on whatever it takes to be released…

  • Larry

You said it 39. You have no idea what TT is asking. 96 and 97 were Favre, but it was also Reggie and a lot of others + Holmgren. You’ve never heard me tear down Favre’s history other than very, very, reckless with the football. Dont fill me with stats I’ve seen ‘em. He could’ve been the greatest ever, rather than one of the greatest. In any case you dont put the youngest team in the league on the field with the oldest QB. Like I said before he could have played well into his 40s based on arm, but not throwing into double and triple coverage because he thinks he can get away with it.

  • Larry

Hey, enough about Favre. Al whats your take on the Grant situation? Looks like to me that Herman is trying to handicap TT because of the bad press and blogs on the BF thing.

  • Jon

“Hey, enough about Favre. Al what’s your take on the Grant situation?”

Hey, I can respond for Al and save him some time: “I love Teddy; whatever he does is the right thing to do; nothing he says is a lie, even when one week he says Favre must compete with Rodgers and the next week says Favre cannot compete with Rodgers. I just love the guy – Teddy, that is. I can’t wait until he leaves Green Bay and goes to my favorite team, the Bears.”

  • Cody

Al, I still respect your opinion, but you are way to one sided and close minded. Tompson lied, plain and simple. Favre has not been handleing this the best, but Ted did tell him he could compete, and now he is saying that he can’t. WHY would you just GIVE the job to RODGERS?!?!?!?! He has done absolutly NOTHING to earn the right to just take the job from Favre, who can STILL PLAY!!! I always like TT, but you can’t just give the job to an unproven quarterback, especially when you have a living legend who still wants to play! Favre will always be a Packer Al, ALWAYS! I don’t care if he has a different uniform on and wins a superbowl this year, he is a Packer at heart, and for you to call him a baby is insulting and uncalled for. Seriously Al, open your eyes and see what is happening, don’t make up your mind without the facts while denying Ted’s lies. You are a better person then that, I know that you are!

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

I guess Brett Favre is perfect. He has never told a lie. I wonder what all hotties he used to screw in Green Bay think about that. Did he run home and tell Deanne? I doubt it. Favre is not God. Favre is spreading lies all over the place. Do you really think Thompson would make those comments knowing that talking to Brett is like talking to a tattletale? Favre is dumb, Thompson is smart. End of story.

  • Larry

Knock it off Al. Stick to football. Keep that crap up and your web site dies.

  • Roy Jamison

My two cents is the two sides should have called a truce. Agreed not to talk with the Chris Mortenson’s or Peter King’s until the process was resolved. Using the media to resolve issues is like pouring five gallons of gas on a small fire.

  • Jon

“I wonder what all hotties he used to screw in Green Bay think about that. Did he run home and tell Deanne? I doubt it.”

When a lowlife; and I’m not talking about Favre.

  • E. J.

The main reason Brett had a strong year in 2007 was his committment to personal training and film study both before and during the season. In March he stated he did not want to make that commitment anymore, while in the meantime Aaron Rodgers has done all the work. If Brett was really unsure about this decision in March, he should have done all the offseason stuff, then if he still didn’t have the desire or commitment to the team he could’ve changed his mind later and avoided all this distraction. He just thinks he can wing it and just show up, because he’s Brett Favre. He also very publicly called out Javon Walker and Sterling Sharpe for putting themselves above the team then stuck a huge knife in A Rodgers back. Bart Starr’s streak of passes without an interception is much more impressive than the all-time record for throwing interceptions.

  • http://orlando Mark

E.J. you can’t compare records, they’re both impressive. This is different from Walker and Sharpe, Brett says he wants to play. Al had it right the first time when he said there should have been an open competition for starter, it would have only made us better. If TT doesn’t want that he should make the trade.

  • Jack in Columbus

It really amazes me that so many armchair NFL managers/coaches/quarterbacks who choose to post on this forum think THEY know much better than Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy, who are successful professionals in their fields and have closely observed Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers every single minute they wore a football helmet over the last two years. Favre has recently shown himself to lack a certain leval of emotional maturity that many of us probably thought he possessed, and he has surprised many of us with his obvious willingness to have this soap opera play out in the daily press. When Ted said that Brett could return and be a backup to Rodgers, I am sure he meant it. However, Brett flatly — publicly — rejected any such role with the Packers. Instead of being the Zeke Bratkowski to Aaron’s Bart Starr, Brett made it clear that he wanted OFF the team asap. So how can it be said that Ted flip-flopped? He merely adjusted his plans based upon Brett’s stated disinterest — as he did earlier in the draft after Brett “retired”. If Brett had reported for camp, and the Packers would have allowed him to practice — even briefly — there would have been two parties doing the opposite of what they wanted to do and it would have been disruptive to everything the team hopes to accomplish in camp. Ted acted responsibly by suggesting Brett give the team a few days to try to work out a trade. Brett could have torn a rotator throwing a pass, or pulled a groin muscle running sprints, and that would not have helped him, either. Ted did the right thing; he is exploring a trade, which would benefit and protect the Packers and help Brett fulfill his wishes. If that effort proves unsuccessful, either Brett will stay retired or the Packers will undoubtedly release him upon his official unretirement. At this point, I think Brett has done himself irreparable harm in the eyes of the fewr teams that might have coveted his talent and experience. Even Minnesota might have soured on taking Brett at this point. Thus, in the ultimate team sport, the “ultimate team player” has acted solely in his own interest — and was left standing alone in the cold. Legacy irreparably tarnished. Fans acrimoniously divided. Hero unceremoniously released. Team temporarily distracted. Who’d a thunk it? Brett, push the reset button on your game-of-life controller, if you can, and replay the last couple of months with a better strategy.

  • He Who Is Right

    From packers.com:

“Time marches on, things happen, but there are scenarios where he would be here and he would be fine.” -Ted Thompson during press conference, 28 July

    Huh!?

Al, hope you had your chills pills and/or nitro tablets handy.

  • Jack in Columbus

Larry – Brett’s former days of “carousing” did not just involve alcohol. The stories in Green Bay are legion about his “socializing.” I think Al’s shot at Brett is not inaccurate, if a bit below the belt. I am sure Al is just upset about the harm that Brett may have caused the team recently, and the fact that Brett couldn’t care less about the Packers right now.

  • He Who Is Right

“Time marches on, things happen, but there are scenarios where he would be here and he would be fine.” -Ted Thompson during press conference, 28 July

    And no follow up question!?

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

He Who is Right? OK. Get a life. He who is right? He who is a nobody maybe. Move along. Nothing to see here.

  • Oconomowockid

Jack in Columbus, you sound like a sane version of Al, yet still just one of the Thompson band wagoners. How is it that Ted always tells the truth. I find that actually funny at this stage of this disaster. How can anyone at this point think Packer managment has handled this well. As I have said numerous times, no CEO would let his company be dragged through the mud for weeks. Any good CEO would have solved this issue before it became public. Ted chose a pissing match with by far the most famous Packer in recent history. He could have taken the “Hi Road” and released Favre, like White and others in the past. Instead he chose to divide the team, divide the fan base, and cause enormous negative PR for the Packer organization, I am by no means saying Favre is free from criticism in this mess, but those of you Thompsoniacs who think Ted is a genius and has handled this well are reaching to see brilliance where is has not existed. This has been a disaster for Favre, the Packers, the fans, and yes Thompson. Release Favre and lets move on!!!!!!!

If all this damage to our organization is worth a second or third round draft pick. The entire management team should be fired.

  • He Who Is Right

Huh, again. My 3rd post on Packernet and 4th on any Packer forum and I’m personally attacked by the Administrator? The hate spreads.

Al, I think that statement by Thompson presented us with news and it was very worthy of a follow up asking what those scenarios are. I didn’t engage in emotional hyperbole as so many here do. I simply pointed out what I see as a new developement and I’m personally attacked by the Administrator.

I gave you a good-natured elbow-in-the-ribs because it would seem that ANY possibility of Favre being a Packer again would get your pressure boiling…and you personally attack me.

I’ll leave the name calling to you, Al, and note that ad hominem attacks are usually the tactic of those who have no ideas.

  • Larry

Jack, thanks! Being down here in Tx never heard any inkling of bad behavior. Still dont think it should be part of a debate regarding QB skills other than another knock on judgement.

  • Dan

    Well put Oconomowockid.

It’s clear the Thompson and Favre do not get along. Neither trust the other one.
Management has a right to move on. (They put a good team on the field last year)
Favre has a right to work and compete for a starting job. (Runner up in MVP clearly has right to compete).

With guys who truly added to the Packers legacy, there needs to be some compassion.

Release Favre and let’s move on. Management clearly believes Rodgers has a better chance at winning a Super Bowl than Favre. Let’s honor that decision the same way we wait a couple years to see if draft picks pan out. Yeah, all of us question draft picks, but we also realize the GM and coach saw something they are willing to stake their careers on.

The longer this drags out, the worse it is for the Packer organization, Packers players, and Favre.

Murphy needs to step up and do his job. If that means calling Harlan for advice so be it. If it means bringing in Harlan to talk with both parties, so be it. Let’s get this done so the team and organization can focus on winning.

  • Brandon

    Al is the man.

Favre went away a hero and he pretty much threw it all away, all the while demonstrating an accute form of mental illness. The whole mess involving Thompson had me in a rage when I heard it too; it’s so over-the-top ridiculous, I really wonder how anyone can defend him.

  • Jack in Columbus

I don’t think of myself as a Ted Thompson bandwagoner. I just think the Packers’ decisions regardinf Favre — so far — have been correct. I do not necessarily believe that they were announced or implemented perfectly. In fact, I have my criticism of Ted and Mike McCarty in terms of some of their comments. But I am blessed with retrovision (hindsight), which makes me pretty good at second-guessing the guys who have to think fast on their feet and get it right every time. “Crisis management” is actually a hot seminar topic these days; many managers never develop great instincts or skills in dealing with the media in times of crisis and adversity, but most can improve over time with effort. I cannot think of another sports team that has faced a similar situation, so I have no way of really comparing TT’s and MM’s situation and providing an objective analysis of their execution. So, I keep my comments about their technique and style to myself and try to focus as much as I can on their actions and results. I have to say that I am inclned to believe TT right now, as I tend to believe that Brett probably hears and remembers what he wants when they communicate. TT has no reason to lie to Brett. At least none that I can see.

  • Zach

“All I ask for is five minutes alone…..”

    Phil, is that you?

Totally ruining any sort of dignity that he had = BF

Well, we’ve come full circle. Looks like he’s back. Don’t know why so many are jumping on TT and MM backs though since BF did this initially (is it 3yrs in a row now?). Don’t hang support for BF on last yrs stats or MVP polling because the success we had last yr was based on many factors like MM managing the field and TT putting this team together. I can well imagine a guy not wanting to give up 12mil but no matter what happens now he aint gonna get it anywhere. He sure had a pretty good yr, but not a 12mil one and he sure doesn’t figure to have much of a long term future. If we can’t peddle him soon, he’s not going to get many reps and he won’t be in football shape. I hope TT takes anything he can get for him even if its a 5th rounder or a backup DB.

It’s been reported by multiple sources that Murphy is flying down to ask Favre to stay away.

Read this article and you’ll realize this same situation has happened before with the Packers and Hall of Famers.

I’m drinking a twelve pack tonight to honor the end of my heroes (both the Packers organization and Brett Favre).

    Larry,
I am all for tading Favre within the division. We can get the most for him within the division. If sa;; we are going to trade for a 5th round pick release him and get it done immediately release him. We cannot keep putting our organization through this for a fifth or six round draft pick. Get on with it.

    Al,

Your immature post confirms that there is an Al Davis that is crazier than the one we have here in the Bay Area California (Oakland Raiders Owner). I am not sure how you allow yourself to get so swept up in all the media hype, but if you look at simple facts you should still be able to respect Brett Favre even if he is not being an angle the past few weeks. Facts:

    1. Ted Thompson stated that he did not have knowledge of Brett Favre making a strong push for the Packers to sign Randy Moss. Numerous league sources, including Randy Moss himself, have confirmed that Favre did make a strong push to sign Randy going as far as to reduce his salary to sign him. This sure smells of a GM trying to cover his but and keep his ego intact.

    2. Favre admits to retiring to early. Maybe a bit tasteless to point the finger at Ted Thompson for pressuring him on the decision and it may not be fair to the Packers to only be willing to commit when your 100% sure knowing you are never more than 80% sure you want to play during Jan – Jun (based on comments from Favre himself).

    3. Favre understands he left behind the starting QB position when he retired; he is willing to compete for the spot upon his return. He did state “why” when asked the question a few weeks back, but that was never him stating that he wouldn’t.

    4. Favre did not file for restatement before training camp. Favre then called the Packers prior to filing for restatement at the beginning of camp. Both of these, along with his comments on the topic, show Favre is trying to avoid the media circus and would like to resolve this privately with Packers management if they make reasonable efforts to resolve the issue. Brett should and will pull the media in to force Packers hand if they don’t try to get things resolved. This is especially true in light of the flip flopping Ted Thompson has done on the topic recently.

When I look at all these things, and not the hours “football analyst” spend on the topic I see Brett as I always have, a hick who wears his emotions on his sleeves. A guy who didn’t want to overstay his welcome but is a fierce competitor, conflicting factors. I can still respect him through this.

I have had the opportunity to meet Deanna and Bonita Favre. Both of them were very classy and straight forward people. I also have had the opportunity to meet Ted Thompson and he struck me as an arrogant ass.

How can you so easily ignore potential scenarios, other than Brett is selfish, such as Ted Thompson is driven by his ego. He knows if Favre comes back and Green Bay wins a super bowl most will believe it is because of Favre and not the team Ted has built. I do believe Mr. Thompson has put together a strong team, but the only reason I can rationalize for not wanting to not put all of your best players on the field is due to an agenda that is more related to his ego than winning.

As a person who has contributed $$$ to packernet.com for several years I demand and expect more objective and reasonable post. Not immature tirades with any foundation of truth or merit.
