Live Game Blog is back

Live game blog is back. By the way, my prediction was 24-23 Pack. Aaron Rodgers second come-from-behind victory.

Nice little 58-yard touchdown drive to open the game. Ryan Grant with some nice runs, Jordy Nelson a nice catch and Greg Jennings the TD pass. Sweet. 7-0 Pack.

Not so sweet anymore, thanks to two bad calls by the officials the Tampa Bucs have tied the game at 7. To go along with two terrible ball spots to boot, the refs are doing everything in their power to keep the Bucs in the game. Brandon Jackson help set the refs up by dropping a pass and tipping to the Bucs for Rodgers’ first pick of the year. Packers 7, Refs 7.

Rodgers is not having a good day against the 27th ranked pass defense. The defense is getting tired already and the Bucs have taken complete control of the game. Will be 14-7 very shortly. It will be interesting to see if head coach Mike McCarthy can get his team out of this funk. It looks like a hangover from the Dallas loss.

Getting ugly now. Rodgers throws another pick and the Bucs have found a weak spot in the Packers defense in the form of Nick Barnett. Now Woodson gets burned. Ugly might be a kind word.

Nick Collins could have turned the game around. Nope. Dropped a pass right in his hands. You almost have to try to drop a pass that perfectly thrown to you. Time for Charlie Peprah to see more playing time. Collins has done that too many times in his career.

The Packers’ season hangs in the balance during the upcoming halftime. Down by six or down by ten. It is gut check time for the Green Bay Packers.

Packers come out flat as a pancake but got a mistake from the Bucs in the form of a Tramon Williams interception. Now Rodgers better turn this into a 14-13 game or the questions will start mounting.

Horrible. Three-and-out. Might have been the worst play-call of the McCarthy era, but none the less, it appears this game is a lost cause. The players are playing bad and the coaches are coaching bad. Rude awakening. Go Brewers!

If that isn’t proof enough the referees are favoring the Bucs than nothing is. With the state of officiating in the NFL this year, and what happened in the NBA recently, questions need to be asked. Won’t help the Packers today, though, the refs mindset is all Tampa. Oh well, the only way to stick to them is to win the game. Maybe the Packers will man up. But I don’t see it happening. The defense has been on the field too long.

Ryan “Samkon Gado” Grant hands the game to the Bucs with a fumble recovered and returned for a TD by the Bucs. Oh well, 2-2 is still leading the division. Lets beat the Falcons next week.

Over and out.

I’m re-engaging with the injury to Rodgers. With A-Rod the Packers have no chance, but really, the way the defense is being gashed I don’t think the Packers can come back. We had our chances.

OK, now we have a chance. Thanks to Charles Woodson. Holy Cow! 21-20 Packers!?

The skeptics were right about Rodgers being fragile. Unbelievable. We know what the media will be saying this week with Brett throwing 4 TDs in New York. Life just got a little tougher for Packers’ fans and a whole lot brighter for Thompson bashers.

Cody – it looked Rodgers hurt his shoulder calling the signals. I don’t know. He threw a touchdown pass and left the game.

Game, set, match. How can you not protect the quarterback in that situation. He is already hurt. The failure to fix the offense and defensive lines, combined with the injuries in the secondary, leaves the Packers looking at a long season. If Rodgers doesn’t play next week I might have to admit I was wrong, even though I lost all respect for Brett Favre over the summer

I will be happy if the Packers can beat the Falcons next week and be 3-2. Probably about where most people hoped for considering the tough early schedule. Of course if Rodgers can’t play, all bets are off.

Game over. 30-21 Bucs. Going to be a rough week Packers’ fan. Rough week. I’m not going to get involved. Talk to you next Sunday. Jon, welcome back. I won’t be reading, so say what you want.

  • stomps

Michael… you make fun of me? regardless of what’s going ONE? LMAO

  • Cody

wow… thanks al, it better not be a bad injury, if he is out for any time at all we are done for.

  • stomps

Rodgers hurt calling the play… that’s the funnies thing I’ve even seen u say Al!

Make that 5 touchdowns for Favre.

  • Cody

    what happened?????

  • stomps

ok…. time to prove it rodgers…

  • stomps

    UUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • zach

    game over

  • Cody

    just shoot me now…

  • Cody

do we have any time outs?

  • Cody

    never mind…

  • stomps

    NICE WORK D good greif

  • Oconomowockid

This is a young team, that is showing they are a young team.

  • stomps

I’m not blaming Rodgers for this…. TT is to blame…

  • Cody

how about you blame matt flynn… or ryan grant… or Rodgers for not staying in the game… maybe our rush defense for being horrible…

  • stomps

    Nail in the coffin…

  • Cody

wait, if rodgers threw the pick then forget about what i said about flynn or arod stayin in… the gamecast had flynn throwing it..

  • stomps

Cody… all those problems go directly back to TT

  • CheesyD

Once again, this game was lost in the trenches. Just like last week. No protection for Rodgers. No holes for Grant. No sacks for the defense. Can’t stop a mediocre RB. Dunn made them look silly.

Our DB’s played a good game.

    Where is Donald Driver???

Do we even have a TE?

    Ridiculous.

  • stomps

What is up with Driver? I’ll have to go back and watch the game again…

  • Cody

tough loss, we are still up in the devision. we will beat atlanta, we have to beat atlanta.

  • Oconomowockid

Why did Rodgers not come back in? This is one circumstance where Favre would have come back in and tried. Arod and TT have some faith.

  • CheesyD

He did come back in. Missed one series. He came back in just so the O-line could let Tampa have a clean shot at getting him killed. Damn near broke his back there. Nice protection O-line. Sheesh.

  • stomps

Make that 6 touchdowns for Favre

  • Michael Legat

Bad, bad loss. I’m ready to hear all of the sweeping overreactions.

  • stomps

And then he didn’t come back in for the last series…

  • CheesyD

Who gives a flip about Favre? He fled to the Jets. Go post on their forum.

  • Oconomowockid

I’m talking about with 2:00 minutes remaining. We had a chance and I think they were afraid he would get another interception. The kid has played well this season except for today. Give it a shot and try to win. Sticking in a back up was like accepting the loss.

  • CheesyD

I think they were trying to save the shoulder in addition to knowing that their would be no protection for him out there. It’s a long season. Why get him killed?

  • stomps

    Fled to the Jets… RIiiiiiight…..

Lets see… would we have been better off today without TT’s quarterback change?

    YES!

  • stomps

Things get a little tough Al.. and your not going to read for a week? NICE

  • Michael Legat

Hey, Jon!! Welcome back, my man!

What a surprise to see you today. I’m sure you’ve just been busy up until this week.

Your momma says hi, by the way.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

No stomp, I just don’t want to read the crap that has already started. We played this out a month ago. Funny how we all knew that the first time Rodgers has a bad game Jon’s propaganda machine would resume again. Forgetting all the bad games #4 had. Six picks in a playoff game, countless games thrown away with mind-numbing mistakes. When it is all said and done I will make my comparisons. Notice I didn’t make any the first three weeks. I didn’t then, I won’t now. See you all Sunday.

  • scotto

hmmmm….think TT’s going to scour the waiver wire for a veteran backup???? Shame Brett Favre can’t play anymore – 6 td’s ..per nfl.com “After a rocky start, Brett Favre had one of the best games of his career.”

Can’t pin this game completely on Rodgers, though….With the Pop-Warner-esqe tackling our defense exhibited, you’re not going to beat many teams…even the “offensive juggernaut” that is Tampa Bay……

Oh well…paraphrasing one of the Posts on this site, they don’t crown the Superbowl Champs in December…plenty of football left to be played….hopefully Rodger’s injury isn’t too serious…I’m as optimistic of a Packer fan as there is, but if Rodgers is out, we’re screwed….

  • TRIP

I don’t feel like being too overbearing with the Favre talk, but its no way I can ignore the scenario. ALL of us knew that Rodgers was fragile, we said it last season when he got hurt and was inactive for the #2 spot, we said it during the Favre drama. I got called a TT basher 2 weeks ago because I criticized the back-up QB situation.

Why couldn’t we have Favre AND Rodgers? The competition for the #1 spot could have been honest and still competitive. I better leave this conversation alone, I know I’m TT basher now, lol.

And Ryan Grant? What the heck? Let’s give him more money!

Say what you want, I wish our QB had 6 TDs today. Hopefully we’ll rebound versus ATL. Their offense could be productive though, our defense isn’t stellar.

  • Cody

Yes Jon, we would have been better off with Favre, TODAY! I, like Al, wont judge this move until the end of the season. Favre had an amazing day today, but why weren’t you talking this up 3 weeks ago? Everyone has bad games, and if you cant run the ball, and you get zero help from your o-line, and brandon jackson gives one to the defenders, and ryan grant fumbles the ball that goes back for 6, then i dont care if your name is Tom Brady (from last year!!) your team wont win the ball, and you wont play well!!
    ’nuff said!

  • stomps

Fair enough Al… see u sunday!

  • http://Orlando Mark

It’s a long season, let’s be patient and see how it turns out at the end. The best thing about the NFL, we all see the results. No excuses, no spin and no looking back. Everyone is accountable, the refs, the players, the coaches, even Matt Millen.

  • Brent

Grant had him self one heck of a game. Rushing 15 times for 20 yards . 2 receptions for -4 yards. Not to mention the fumble he put on the turf that went back for 6. I’m sure glad we gave him all that money!! Aaron Rodgers also showed his durability of 3 games and I’m thrilled we have 2 rookies to take his spot. Those injuries seem to just continue to pile up

  • cdk4205

I’ve heard 10-6 is best guess…..two of those six were to be Dallas at Home and At Tampa.

If the injuries don’t continue to multiply, we’re still on track to win division. Nobody said it would be easy.

  • Jeff

O-line, D-line and DBs was what I was carping on before the start of the year. I’m happy to be at least a little wrong about the DBs. Collins is doing a bit better, Williams is coming on and Woodson continues to shine.

Yes, the tendency to injury was my one real issue with Rodgers and thus with Ted for setting us up like this. He’s a fine QB when he’s in the game. His injury history was, and remains, worrisome. My big hope was that the O-line would stabilize and protect him. They’re not.

Favre (can I still be a Packer fan if I mention Favre?) was one of the least sacked QBs in the NFL last year. With 9 already, we could top last year’s total before our bye. That’s not going to get it done. And the run blocking is wretched. Guys, a consistent running game is the same core problem we’ve had the last three years – blame it on the players, blame it on the scheme, blame it on the coaches – whatever we’re doing isn’t working.

Grant isn’t going to tear off 30 to 50 yard runs every week – we need to be able to get 4-5 yards consistently, all game and week to week; we have not had that since 2004. The big runs are great when they happen, but you can’t base an offense on them.

  • Reid

Last time I checked, Favre didn’t play Tampa at Tampa today. He played the Cardinals, not exactly a stout defense. They put up about as much of a struggle as Jon’s mom does when I enter her bunghole. And, Favre started 10 billion games in a row, he didn’t necessarily finish them. There are numerous times where he got hurt and had to leave the game. Rodgers came back in, just long enough for our O-line to almost get him killed.

  • AllAboutThePack

Any Given Sunday!!! Cowboys LOST, Vikings LOST, Detroit didn’t play but if they did they would have LOST!!! All is not LOST in Packerland… I do share everyone’s concerns though that our OL, DL, Running Game, and receivers all seem to be loosing touch with what they had been accomplishing earlier in the season. Seems the D does well in the passing but our Run D is horrific. Our offense is offensive. I don’t care who’s behind center, no one can play well when the offense isn’t keeping the opposing teams out of our backfield. You could throw Romo, Brady, Favre or Manning back there and they would get killed too…

I think we have a tough road ahead of us if the play calling doesn’t change and the OL doesn’t buckle down and learn the damn blocking schemes so we can get a run game going. The guys on FOX were saying Grant’s vision has seemed to fail him this year. He has the cutbacks but he keeps missing them. That’s a tad disheartening… Team needs to get it together. FOX guys also said we have a very dangerous offense and can score at will when all things are clicking – I tend to agree, but they aren’t showing us that consistency yet. I’m hoping this week MM starts ripping into guys that make mistakes – our team is so much better then they’re showing on Sundays… GO PACK!!!

  • Oconomowockid

Ok, we are 2-2 and seem like we are not taking steps forward. I think the Favre talk is a mute point. ( As many of you know I am a Favre fan) I think Aaron has played well until today. The situation we are in is the problem. We need an experienced, back up QB, because if we have to go with the rookie QB’s our season is effectively done. The coaches need to get there team ready to play. McCarthy needs to get his act together and Ted needs to get a veteran QB signed. I think not having a veteran QB on our roster was a major mistake and one that exposes some of Teds arrogance. If we had a veteran QB we would have had a chance with 2:00 minutes remaining in todays game. instead we more or less gave up.

We are not winning or losing because of Aaron, he is doing what the coaches are telling him. We need the offensive line to start playing football. We need the coaches to start game planning and calling plays like they want to win. It seems to me we give up to easily and that starts right with the coaches. I don’t know if MM’s lack of play calling ability was hidden by Favre last year but it does not appear to be his strong suit.

I hope Aaron is able to play this next week because we really need that win. If we lose that one we are in trouble. The division is so weak we are still in good shape, unless Aaron is out. Ted get busy. Admit you made a little error and get a veteran QB signed.

  • TRIP

Reid, that was so disrespectful. Now I like a good joke but that was too much.

Anyways, surely we didn’t play the Cards, but we played the 27th defense in the league, still not a good arguing point. Regardless, you can’t win with 4,598 turnovers in one game and an overpaid running back who averages 2 steps backward each rush.

I can deal with a loss, I can deal with being the inferior team, but something is said in HOW you lose. We looked like the youngest team in football, today. That’s no longer a bragging point until we recover, and win this division. Both Wild Cards are coming out the NFC East, we need to make sure the Bears don’t surprise us, they went like 13-3 one year with a crappy team.

  • Larry

Wow, I’m thinking (finally) that we dont have the right personnel to run the zone scheme. Im not aware that Rodgers was brittle in college, so whats new, lack of protection that he has to get out of the pocket too much? I thought at first that that was strategized, but maybe not. Grant better turn it around quickly or hes running himself out of the NFL. Blocking or not hes not even looking for an escape route. As for the punting, Ill write this one off as a bad game because hes looked awfully good to me previously. Talk about bad tackling, this was the worst Ive ever seen by the Pack. Id sure like to be a fly on the wall tomorrow in those film sessions. By the way, has Campen ever been associated with the zone scheme anywhere? Last thought, I think Rodgers did OK considering the protection and he sure didnt deserve that first drop.

  • matt

Why did the Redskins beat the Cowboys and the Packers did not? They won because they could run the ball and protect the quarterback better. Plain and simple.

  • Bad Steve

I hate to say I was right, but I called it. Rodgers would be hurt in this game. I would not worry too much. This Div. sucks and the Pack could still win it.The Bears look like a hand full at times and MC has had no answers for them. Oh by the way, Favre only had 6 td’s Sunday… I know it’s the way of the NFL and I’m not living in the 60′s anymore…

  • paul

    Nice punter…thanks TT
    No depth at corners..thank TT
    No backup QB…thanks TT
    No Favre…thanks TT

  • Pete H

Look, people know how I feel about Favre, but this has nothing to do with him, or that move. Rodgers has looked every bit the part they talked him up to be. Yes he has had some shaky goes, but he is not the problem. Both lines are absolute crap! This is my hang up with TT. We now NEED some depth at DT…like Williams, but where is he? He is now Brohm, who we now also need, but he apparently isn’t better than the 7th round pick that we didn’t trade our depth away for!!! We also NEED HARRELL…what a fat pile of SH#$. TT has put this team in the exact mess they are in. Every issue is completely of his causing. Sitting on a pile of cash, we have lost our depth from last year, 2 rookie QBs on the roster, and some high picks on garbage guards, none of which should be starting in this league!!! One last thing, why, if MM says that Grant isn’t in rythm yet is he starting??? He is absolutely useless out there right now!! Get Jackson in the game!!!!!

  • AllAboutThePack

I agree Pete – so many breakdowns, so many in fact it’s hard to tell what’s causing it all. I have to give it to our secondary, they continue to find ways to make plays and give our offense a chance to keep us in the game. I also noticed that the TB Buc’s weren’t respecting the run at all and were basically pinning their ears back and going after Rodgers. If you don’t respect the run it’s going to be hard to make anything else work. When I heard Rodgers irritated his throwing shoulder my stomach sank, but I also got a little excited to see what the rook would do in an NFL situation. My optimism faded quickly.

Are there any veteran QB’s out there that are worth a crap? Last time I looked I didn’t see anyone I’d want on our team ahead of the guys we already have. I assume we could have gotten someone in a trade, and maybe still can, but who would we trade for? Who’s a backup right now that would give a better chance then what we have? Just asking and hoping there’s a logical fit out there that could bring our confidence in our backups QB’s up a little bit… Personally, I’m MOST worried about our OL… fix that and Rodgers spends less time running for his life. He’s taken a LOT of shots already this season that were unnecessary and not necessarily the fault of the QB. When Rodgers holds the ball too long, then yes, it’s his fault, but that’s only been a few times – the rest are inexcusable…
