GB-Sea game blog

Like much of the season the Packers again are slow starters. Now after a Rodgers fumble they are down 7-3 to the lowly Seahawks. The defense is playing much the way it has all season. Bad. Time to put the game on the sore shoulder of Rodgers and open things up. The Packers need to score on every drive pretty much to have a shot at beating anybody. Come on Dickey!

4:31 PM: The Packers tie it up with a minute to go on a Rodgers run. 1:08 left in the half, a little momentum, please don’t do something stupid on the kickoff return or on defense. In fact, if they try to score it should be a good chance for the defense to pick one and take it to the house.

4:57 PM: With a chance to take control of the game the Packers went three and out now the Packers just dodged a major bullet when a penalty erases a 56-yard run by the Seahawks. The defense better pull its head soon. They did a get a three and out thanks to the penalty, but not exactly a confidence builder.

5:08 PM: Another bumbling drive by the offense, another horrible punt by Frost. The defense needs to make the game-winning play.

5:19 PM: That was a great throw and it came just as I was thinking that Rodgers’ shoulder was hurting him too much. Perfect throw, perfect catch, 17-10 lead. Come on defense!

5:40 PM: This is more like Packer football. Keep the sticks moving and the clock running and get a Brett FAvre-special one-yard TD pass. Sweet. Rodgers and the offense have stepped their game up the last couple of drives. They look much more like the confident unit of the first two weeks. The Pack is back, but there is still 11 minutes left in this game.

5:46 PM:  Barring a Bear-like choke job, Mason Crosby’s 51-yard field goal seals the deal. The Packers have broken their three game losing streak and return to first place in the NFC North with the Vikings and Bears.

The Packers’ offense did a much better job of keeping drives alive and giving the defense some rest. As a result the Packers’ defense looks fresher here in the fourth quarter. This is what needs to happen the remainder of the season. The defense is banged up and needs all the help it can get.

Now it is over. Frye picked off by Tramon Williams. Game, set and match. Williams is making a statement the last three weeks. His third straight game with an interception. I doubt the Packers will rush Al Harris back before he is ready.

Finally a week to enjoy in Packerland.

I’ve been having heart palpitations most of the game already… Couple of bad decisions, running against our defense. I was surprised they dialed up that long pass with Rodgers arm the way it is, but then again, he’s been doing a lot of things today you wouldn’t think he should be doing with a sore arm.

I like Aaron, tough guy and competitive – love that competitive spirit…

Grant has been virtually useless – Jackson is hurt – Lumpkin is hurt – man does our run game suck this year.

  • Dan

Thank goodness Seattle’s a terrible team (3rd string QB, no WRs). It’s the same story every week.

If we fall behind by more than a TD, we’re toast. Why is the offense so terrible early on?

  • AllAboutThePack

I think we’ve proven to be one of the better teams of mediocrity – Next week will be a true test… Good news though – Arizona is beating the Cowboys :) I hate the Cowgirls almost as much as I hate the Viqueens and Bears – probably cause I live here and have to listen to everyone talk about them being a Super Bowl team – HA!!! Not So Much!!!

  • Michael Legat

The good news – We won. Came up with big plays when necessary.

The bad news – If Ryan Grant and the run blocking don’t improve, we are looking at a 7-9 season. It’s that simple.

  • cdk4205

Glad to get a win! Grant just looks like he has no cutting ability. He just looks for somebody’s back to run up.

  • CheesyD

Big win for the Pack. We needed that one. Hats off to A-Rod. We are truly fortunate to have a QB of his caliber and character.

Woodson has been great this year so far, especially since he’s injured.

Grant… he excels at those one yard runs where somebody touches his shoelace and falls down. Yuck.

Big test next week. Sure wish the bye week was this week but oh well.

I see the Vikes got another game handed to them by the refs. A phantom interference call puts them in range of a field goal to win it. That has to be the luckiest team ever. God I hate them.

Good week though… Pack wins, Be*rs lose a heartbreaker, and the Cowboys lose to the Cardinals. Only blemish was the Vikings gift from the zebras.

  • cali cheeez

Yep almost a perfect day. Dang lions. Hey there was a Colin Cole sighting today. That’s good news, I know it was a hurting seahawks team but a win is a win. We’re all tied up in the NFC North GO PACK GO

  • Reid

Oh, sorry Michael, you already said that. Echo, echo, echo, I agree. WTF with Grant running straight into the back of his blockers. Someone tell him that he’s looking for daylight.

On another note, it was good to see the players “gel” a little with the handshakes, etc after they made a play. Watching this game made me realize that this team is looking for an identity. Last year this team was all about someone else, breaking records, will he retire, etc. This year, this team is trying to figure out who they are and who the leaders are. I felt we grew up a little bit this week. Better things to come? I’ve been wrong before….

  • Matt Hayton

I live in Seattle…just got back from the game…I would agree with Reid…I think this team might be finding their identity in #12. But they are still finding it…opening drivew in the 3rd quarter, he missed 2 frist down throwsa and the whole team looked down…fortunate for us the zebras gave us a re-do on their big running play. Holding call was on the backside and had no impact on the play…but if they get that big running polay w/the score tied 10-10, could have been a much different outcome…but Rodgers comes back the next drive and throws that strike to Jennings for the TD…comes back and hits Driver for a big 3rd down conversion and hits both Jennings and Driver on out routes and their off and running…this was definitely a win that they can build off of and rally around Rodegrs a little bit.

that being said, we were tied at halftime with a team playing their 3rd string QB.

Grant sucks…he flat out missed reads on 3 plays atleast…maybe more, he cuts back when the O-Line is blocking strong side and on one speciifc play Spitz (i think) pats his butt to one side, to signal which way he’s gonna block the guy and Grant runs the wrong way anyways…he has no vision out there. He easily left 30+ rushing yards out on the field today…After what I saw today, I’d say Grant is the problem with the running game and not the O-Line, or atleast he’s a big contributor…

Hopefully, this gets them going a bit andd they can beat Indy at home next week. That will tell us more about this football team, than beating Charlie Frye.

Ted Thompson shows his balls in rejecting Brett Favre, but gives in to Ryan Grant, what a joke. There is a reason the Super Bowl champs let him go. And you don’t give people contracts based on a half season.

Happy for the win. The think what is going the most in our favor is the division. We can stay competitive with the Bears and Vikings regardless of how much our running game sucks.

  • Mel e Mel

Tony Gonzales Please we have the caproom and the lack of quality at TE. Aaron Rodgers please slide!!!

  • Oconomowockid

Happy we won, but I cannot believe how bad Seattle is!! We are headed for a tough stretch. I am still concerned we have not looked at any veteran QB’s for a back up.

  • Larry

Wow, what a pity party. Now that you’ve had a good nights sleep think back that your QB has again proved that he has it, your receiver corp is tops in he league, and your RB had 33 carries and 90 yds (even if 70 were on top of the back of an OG). NO INTs GUYS we didn’t beat ourselves.

  • Pete H

Yes, I agree with Larry. It was a nice, solid victory on the road….Seattle blows, but its a tough place anyway. Penalties were down tremendously, other than the expected false starts. Rodgers showed some stuff, and Grant showed some more fluff. At least he went 30 carries without spitting it up. AATP, I have to say that I cannot agree with you about being above the mediocrity level just yet. They were still way too inconsistent at anything to have risen anywhere…Frost still suck!!!!!! He is a F!@#ing punter…if he can’t do it, cut him and sign someone else….repeat as neccessary!!!!

Credit for making me laugh! :)

A win is a win is a win, especially when it comes on the road.

  • Pete H

One more thing. What is this obsession with Gonzalez Mel? TE is just about the last thing on the priority list right now…Humphrey has looked good when he’s been out there and Lee is above average and actually probably can stretch the field better than Gonzo can these days. If Gonzalez were still a gamechanger it might be different. Don’t get me wrong, he is still good, but this team doesn’t use the TE as much, regardless of who it is. I wish they would more, but they don’t. It is a WR predicated system.

Good day for football. Bears lose, Patriots lose, Cowboys lose and the PACK win. However, we need to win one of the next two to prove anything. We should have killed the Seahawks but it was too close for too long. Someone, please answer me this: Why did it take so long to go deep? Everytime we try it, it seem to work often. The Chargers did it all night Sunday. Most of the time, it ends in a catch, interference, or incompletion…at times intercepted but seems to be safe overall and works for the Packers. We should throw deep at least two times per quarter. It opens up the defense and keeps them honest. What do you all think? My brother and I were going nuts….screaming “Throw Deep.”

P.S. And Mikey, anyone who knows me will tell you that I can be a dick but most of the time and a warm fuzzball just like Rush Limbaugh says…smile, I am sure someone loves you. Hope you had a great Sunday as I did. Even my 2nd team the Cardinals won beating the Cowgirls…How fun it that?

  • Michael Legat

:) Good Sunday from beginning to end.

  • Roy Jamison

Any win is a good win on the road, especially going to the west coast. I wonder if Mike Holmgren wonders why he came back this year?

  • Jon

    Nice to win.

But we really should have hung 30+ points on a 1-4 team starting a third string quarterback.

In six games we have scored 30+ points only one time, against the 0-5 Lions.

In the NFL, consistently scoring under 30 points will get you 8-8.

  • Michael Legat

Unless you’re the Titans. (Which we aren’t.)

I liked the handshake ceremony on the interceptions. Whatever it takes to get this defense to establish some chemistry, I’m all for.

  • CheesyD

Long balls woulkd be nice but we do have a QB with a bum shoulder.

Who cares if we put up 30 points? As long as we win, I couldn’t care less what the point spread was.

  • RayL

Not overly impressive at all, but a win is a win. Wins and losses are what counts. The Seahawks are horrible right now. I hope they improve or it’s gonna be a long season for Mike Holmgren.
