Packers-Titans game blog

12:06: Bad start for the offense. Let’s see what the defense can do. The Titans are fired up. Just have to weather the storm here for a little while.

12:13: Well, could have been worse. What should have been a three-and-out results in a 3-0 lead for the Titans. Now Rodgers gets his second chance. Better calm down. Try running the ball once maybe.

12:27: McCarthy’s lack of faith in his punter might have just cost the Packers big time. If the Titans take the ball and make it a 10-0 game, the Packer will be hard-pressed to comeback against this tough Titan defense. I do think the play they called was a good one but for at least the second time today a Titan blitzer had a free path to Rodgers. If the Packers can’t figure out this Titan pass rush Rodgers is going to be a sore man three hours from now.

12:43: The Packers are not playing well nor smart at this time. The defense stops the Titans but Brady Poppinga gives them new life and results in three more points. Very stupid move by Poppinga. The get a long pass to Jennings but the Packers can only had three. Oh well, 6-3 is better than 10-0. It is still a game. Packers need a turnover by their defense now.

1:11: The Packers use a nice drive to take the lead then are poised to give it right back after a long run by Lendale White. Damn! Touchdown Tennessee in about a second. I can’t believe it. This is sick. All the good work the Packers did on defense down the tubes. Titans back on top.

1:29: Halftime down 13-10. Could be worse I guess. Positives are the offense is finding it’s groove against a tough defense. The defense however is not playing up to par. 4-play drives on the Packers should not happen. And no turnovers. The second half will be interesting. Confidence remains high.

1:53: The Packers were on the move and Rodgers does his best Brett Favre impression and throws into double-coverage for an interception. That hurt. No reason to go deep there. Period. Grant is running the ball well, use the man.

2:02: Confidence is no longer high. The rush has been getting to Rodgers all day and this time Rodgers is hit and fumbles. Back-to-back turnovers by Rodgers. They must hold them to three points or the Packers have no chance to win this game.

2:16: Packers come back but fail in the red zone again. Got to get touchdowns when you get down there against a team like the Titans. 16-13 bad guys.

2:29: The Packers simply cannot protect the quarterback today. The Titans have shut down Grant in the second half and are teeing off on Rodgers. Running out of time. The Titans will grind it out now.

2:42: Packers tie it up but again fail to get in the endzone. Donald Driver is having a good day but has dropped two crucial passes and almost gave the game away on the last one. Defense needs to make a play right here and right now.

2:59: The Packers defense is to blame for this loss. Unbelievable.

I’m sorry, but watching this game is bugging me, it might just be me, but it feels like the refs are definetly going with the home team..
We are playing really well, I am happy with our offense for the most part. Our defense is doing ok, that big run really hurt, but other then that we are doing good. I would like to see Harris get a pick this half, it would be a big boost.
But I do agree with you Al, confidence does remain high.

  • Mel e Mel

Aaron Rodgers Mistake again here we go. Aaron has to learn the difference between playing hard and playing smart.

  • Cody

Well, anybody who says that Rodgers isn’t Favre might be wrong.. he sure did a Favre play there.. throwing it up and hoping your player makes a play. I’m not saying it is a bad thing, but Grant is running the ball well, and you could have thrown a short pass on that as well, o well, it is a learning experience.. A-Rod just got a little excited.

  • Cody

    game

  • Mel e Mel

Sorry to say told you so but McCarthy and against a team that has a clue strikes again. What a joke!

  • Cody

you cant win a game when your line cant protect the qb.. come on guys

  • Cody

a good 3 and out though, our defense did come to play today.

  • Cody

    ok, lets go defense

  • Mel e Mel

If Rodgers can put a drive together here for 6 The naysayers will be silenced for good if not….

  • Cody

im keeping track, that is 4 dropped interceptions of the game for green bay.. 5 if you count the one dropped by Harris/Collins but would have been negated by a penalty.

  • Cody

it was a good game, but i really do think that the refs screwed us over.

  • Cody

    … sigh of relief…

  • Mel e Mel

Ok OT but The Pack has had their fair share of chances We need someone besides Driver & Jennings

  • Cody

defense show us what you got..

  • Cody

well we took it to overtime.. i cant believe we play like this with our second chance.

  • Cody

thats it. see you next week vikes.

  • CheesyD

Defense played a great game… until the last two drives of the game when it counted most. Result is a 4-4 record.

  • Mel e Mel

How is the defense to blame when the O-cant block? The object of the game is to out score your opponent. 16 pts against a good team will not get it done. This game was lost several weeks ago when the Pack couldnt secure the services of Tony Gonzales. Maybe KC tried to screw us on the deal but its a sellers market and you have to be able to make the deal. I live in FL an I watched Gonzales Shred the Tampa defense with Tyler BLEEPING Thigpen. I am done for the year. Ted kept his precious 2nd round pick which he will need because Chad Clifton is done.

  • Oconomowockid

The defense played a decent game. The offense puts up great stats but does not score enough points for the weapons they have. I think AROD plays safe which is great in that he does not throw interceptions, but he does not get the ball into the endzone enough. Field goals are not going to win against good teams.

  • Matt Hayton

The difference in winning and losing this game, No #4 for the Green and Gold…

These are the types of games we won all year long last year with #4. It’s not fault to #12, he’s just not #4. And I still say we paid AR too early…it games like today where you earn your $65 million…He had his chance to prove me wrong with 4 minutes to go and he just couldn’t get the job done…He’s a good game manging QB, but until he wins games like that…that is all he is. Gosh, I thought that this was going to be his breakout game…I’d honestly rather be wrong that right…The season is in the balance the next 2 weeks. Have to beat both MN and the Bears to get to the playoffs…1-1 and we ridign the fence, 0-2 and we are done.

So here we are 4-4 and with #4, we would be atleast 6-2 and maybe 7-1 or 8-0. Too bad!

  • Oconomowockid

Larry and DA what was the reason we were not able to blow out the Titans? I am just looking for your perspective after your feeling we had this one in the bag.

  • http://www.themissingrocks.com Tom from Delaware

The defense is was not the problem today, it was definately the o-line. Even then it was a damn close game. I knew when the Titans won the toss that the defense would be too tired to keep up, they had just gotten off the field. I can’t stand fisher.

  • Jack in Columbus

Plenty of blame to go around after this loss. The offense failed to protect the QB, was inconsistent in run blocking, and lacked hustle downfield (so decent runs were contained). A few dropped passes marred the receivers’ overall decent performance. The D got worn down having to play so much in the second half. Never put much pressure on the Titans’ QB. Still, the Packers could have eeked out a win if they had managed to get just one more first down in their last drive in regulation time. When they last the toss in OT, I figured they would het walked down the field and lose by a FG. No surprise they are 4-4. This is an average team, or at least they play like one.

  • Jack in Columbus

Matt – Favre was not the difference. In fact Rodgers played a pretty good game, given the line’s poor performance.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

Favre fans will always blame every wrong move on not having the interception machine in Green Bay any longer. It is sad. With Favre and his 12 picks the Packers would be 2-6, or 1-7, or 0-8! Pure and simple.

  • Michael Legat

Y’all have the perspective you deserve. Stay miserable. That’s all I have to say.

  • Doug R

They played an undefeated team on the road – a team with the best defense in the NFL- and were a play away from the upset

    The other team plays too

The pack d is playing great, McCarthy has to be more patient and stick with the run

Looking at the schedule there is no reason they can’t go 11-5
They are clearly better than the queens and the bears and should win the division

  • Matt Hayton

Legat- Not miserable, when you are right:)

    Hey Jack-

“This is an average team, or at least they play like one.”

“Matt – Favre was not the difference. In fact Rodgers played a pretty good game, given the line’s poor performance.”

Thanks for proving my point. Same team as last year bro. Same average team that had poor line play (worst rushing attack in the league through 8 games in ’07) last year as well…Only difference is #4. This team is 4-4, & last year, at this point, we were 7-1 and Favre is throwing bombs to beat Denver and KC on the road…

What are all of you missing?…why is this so hard to see?…Why can’t you all just admit that AR is just okay right now? It’s tied 16-16 in the 4th Quarter, as franchise QB, this is when you earn your money. Go out and lead your team on a game-winning drive–Just win the game baby. No BS excuses about line play or this or that, that just doesn’t cut it in my book. Bottom line: we played toe to toe with a very good football team and lost by 3 points, because there QB led their team on not one, but two 4th Quarter/OT drives to win the ballgame. We had 2 chances to win this ballgame in the 4th quarter and #12, couldn’t get it done.

Man…we should be going to a SuperBowl this year and instead we’re gonna be lucky to get to the playoffs…better not lose to the Queens, next week…

  • Michael Legat

Rodgers led them on a 4th quarter drive to tie the ballgame. Didn’t get the ball in overtime. Your argument is flawed.

  • Matt Hayton

Admin…AL- it’s good to hear from the “Favre sucks world”…that’s right he was just a washed up, has been last year and this team started the season 7-1 with NO RUNNING GAME, in spite of him, his runner-up MVP voting and his 4th quarter winning TD’s over San Diego, Denver and KC.

Al that makes NO logical sense. Open your eyes…2-6 to 0-8, come on, dude…that’s just silly…you or I could’ve lined up under center and beat the 3-4 ViQueens, 0-7 Lions and the 2-5 Seahawks…oh wait, what does that say about the “Anointed One”…no bueno, only quality win is over a banged up Indy team that set a Tony Dungy coached team, penalty yardage record…hmm…

  • CheesyD

Favre quit on the Packers… more than one and he’s not here anymore. Now he throws INTs for another team who has their own forum. Take your Favre boners and go there.

  • Michael Legat

It’s so hard being a Packers fan.

What have we done to deserve such misery?

Why couldn’t Favre just play at an MVP level for us every year until the end of time?

    Life is so unfair.

  • Matt Hayton

Legat, he had 3 drives in the 4th quarter: one field goal, two punts. 4 minutes to go and they didn’t get a field goal or TD to win the game. One TD or 2 field goals, and they win the game.

My argument is not flawed. 3 drives for 3 points in the 4th quarter isn’t getting it done!!!!

  • Matt Hayton

Hey Al…Thought your AR led team was gonna put a 30 spot on the Titans…a little overconfident weren’t we:)

  • Matt Hayton

CheesyD thoughts: “Self – When AR doesn’t win big games like ol’ #4 used to, let’s make Favre boners cracks to the antagonist to make him go away.”

Hey Cheesy- plan didn’t work I’m still here:) A little logic goes a long way with me but being a jester does not. A little better argument next time, please!

  • Larry

Well, its simple, they were the better team today. I think, however, that this was a statement game. We held an 8-0 team to a 3-point win. I’m more concerned w/ the CHI and MINN wins than the GB loss. Again, this is a transformation year, to be followed in a year or two w/ a completely new OL. Would have won w/ BF or TG? Give me a break! No one man wins anything in this league………….!!! My heads up high and I’m proud of this team for the effort today.

  • CheesyD

Matt – Ah, Favre wins the big ones… I guess that explains that shiny Lombardi Trophy we have from last year’s Super Bowl. And it certainly explains that 4-12 record in 2005, and the 8-8 record in 2006.

A-Rod is having a better season than Favre. The Jets have a loser’s cushy schedule this year. Fave is playing decent enough, although still throwing god awful INTs at the worst possible times.

  • Matt Hayton

Larry – How can you make a statement when you lose?

I would have totally agreed with you if they had won this game, but they lost.

And if AR had led this team to a 4th Quarter GW drive, EVERYONE ON THIS BLOG would be saying that he was the difference-maker, myself included, eating crow!

But he didn’t…so instead it was a team loss. SO give ME a break, Favre was a difference-maker for 16 years. Starting with game 1, with that victory of Cinncinatti in ’92. I just want to see some of that out of AR, after all isn’t that why we paid him $65 million, to be a difference-maker? I sure hope it’s not to just be a guy out there…

  • CheesyD

    Let’s compare stats, shall we…

Favre: 15 TD, 11 INT, 16 Sacks, 230 yards per game, QB Rating 89.5

    A-Rod: 13 TD, 5 INT, 13 Sacks, 238 yards per game, QB Rating 93.4

  • Matt Hayton

    Cheesy-
And his record is still better than ours? Go figure??? Buffalo is a good team and they just beat them on the road…Cardinals are 5-3 and they beat them. In fact, the Jets have beat 2 more teams with winning records than we have (which is 0, for the record).

And I would absolutely agree, Favre blew it back in the championship game, last year. But atleast we were there becuase of his near MVP play last year. We won’t be there this year. I’ll take the loss in the championship game anyday over not getting there at all!!!

  • AllAboutThePack

Hey Matt, your BF, BF is gone, get over it, quit with the what-ifs – you need to shut your pie hole if you have no realistic information to give. And if we had drafted Barry Sanders instead of Tony Mandarich we might have seen another Super Bowl back in the day.. Geez already – stop the garbage.

This team put up a good fight against a good team. Two mistakes cost us – there were 10 points given out in this game. The fumble gave them 3 and the interception took 3 to 7 off the board. I said in the beginning, it had to be mistake free football – they didn’t make the mistakes we did and we lost. Period.

  • CheesyD

And who can forget his brilliant 4 INT performance against the Vikings in the playoffs in 2004. Or that amazing near MVP-like INT he threw against Philadelphia in the playoffs of 2003. Or that first playoff loss ever at Lambeau against the Falcons in 2002.

See a pattern yet, Matt? Favre chokes in big games. The record is there if you are willing to see it. That’s why Favre, his me-first attitude, his $12 million salary, and his INT tossing ways are in New York.

  • RayL

Tony Gonzo would have snatched the pass that Finley missed in the end zone. which would mean a Pack win. TG 7 catches 62 yds with Thigpen…., our TE’s 4 catches 28 yds. TG is a beast in the RZ. Our O-Line sucks and we can’t stop the run when its crunch time..as I have stated before….Ya thin we could use Faneca? I do..

  • Matt Hayton

AATP – How much more realistic can you get than 1 guy, being the only difference in a team from one year to the next?

Cheesy- I 100% agree with you. Except for the me-first attitude bit which seems so popular these days afte 16 years of never being mentioned before.

One more thing, you’re also forgetting about the only 3 time MVP, 457 TDs and 165 Wins, 41, 4th quarter comeback wins, 9 Pro_bowls, 11 NFL playoff appearances, 7division crowns, 4 NFC Championship Games, 2 Super Bowls and the ring from Super Bowl XXXI.

I’d gladly take the bad with the good, and 6-2 to 8-0 record and a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl for one more year, over the “Anointed” unknown!

  • Mel e Mel

John Dorsey for GM. Release Poppinga he cost the Packers the Game. He probably is on water pills. Really can anyone name a play he has made ?? Redzone offense a real problem it showed VS Dallas, and again today. The Packers need an attitude adjustment. We need to realize without Jenkins The DL is suspect so we cant win high scoring games. This must become a run first team. Aaron Rodgers wont hold up in the Red Zone. With Clifton’s knees we need to become a 3 to 5 step drop passing team. I am over Aaron Rodgers, big grin on his face coming off the bus. Remember in the Preseason when Driver called him out saying he needed to become a leader? I am tired of the #4 drama but there was no questioning his leadership or lack thereof.
Every time the offense needed a play he was AWOL. Hey that has a ring to it AWOL Aaron.

  • TRIP

There’s no way Matt or Al/Legat can win the argument. There are pros for Favre and cons for Favre.

But I agree with Matt, mostly, in that we won those close games on the road last year. And pretty much 75% of that came at the helm of Favre/Jennings in clutch situations, INT machine, or not. We were 5-1 in games that ended in a 7-point difference or less, only losing to the Bears. We closed well, and Favre gave us some spectacular clutch play. The Favre-era is truly over, but I can understand the frustration when we lose to the Bucs by 9, ATL by 3, and now the Titans by 3. All very winnable games, despite the woes of the defense.

Point blank, I hope the 65 million bucks and turning down Favre’s offer to come back pays off in future seasons, because hopes for this season is probably flushed away. We couldn’t beat the Bears last year to save our lives, how in the world are we going to now, playing like this?

  • CheesyD

Matt, I haven’t forgotten for a second the good things Favre did for the Packers. I’m a stockholder, have an autographed Favre helmet, plaque, etc. I was as big a Favre fan as there was. Then he showed his true colors and turned on Green Bay, especially when he made it clear he wanted to be a Viking. Unforgivable. He spit on the fans of the Packers in his little temper tantrum when he couldn’t get his way after retiring.. twice. I don’t forgive something like that, even it is Brett Favre.

Rodgers has started seven games in his career, has been playing with a sprained shoulder, and is still out performing Favre. Plus he has the character I want on the Packers. We could be 0-7 right now and I’d still prefer Rodgers over Favre based on the character issue alone. Favre can kiss my ass.

  • Michael Legat

Mel, I thought you were done with Packers this year. Go take your ignorant frontrunner ass over to a Titans fan site.

  • TRIP

Someone’s calling for TT’s job this early? lol

  • zach

Is Matt Hayton a jon alter ego???

Bad play by the o line plays a major role in this loss. But just imagine, BF would have been able to hold off the blitz with his farts and chew spit. We would have done much better then.

Some A rod mistakes, and some defensive mistakes, and several tremendous mistakes by the officials…..
