Packers-Saints Game Blog

Here we go. I will predict 27-21 Packers.

7:43 PM: One play into the game and I want to punch Tony Kornholio right in the mouth. Take Jon and have a threesome for God’s sakes.

7:45 PM: Typical three-and-out by the offense to start a game on the road. Does not bode well.

7:56 PM: What did bode well was a three-and-out by the Packers’ defense. Set up the Packers for a short field after a good punt return and it is all of a sudden 7-0. Sweet. Another three-and-out by the defense would make a statement. Ryan Grant looked good on the touchdown drive and the Packers should ride their horse. One play looked like a variation of the wildcat with Rodgers flipping the ball back to Grant on the snap, and on the touchdown run they kind of faked the same thing but the other way. I like it.

8:00 PM: The 7-0 lead lasted all of one play. Simply unbelievable. Atari Bigby burned. 7-7. Confidence just took a huge hit.

8:07 PM: The Packers are in big trouble. Three-and-out again, short field for the Saints because of another bad Frost punt. 14-7 in about five minutes folks, that is if the Packers defense steps up and holds them to two or three plays. Not good. Frost is the worst punter in the history of the NFL. I can do what he does.

8:15 PM: The Packers’ defense is getting shredded, going to be a short blog tonight. I guess the Packers thought the Saints were going to grind it out on the ground. Who would have thought they would throw on us? Go figure?

8:26 PM: A nice long drive by the offense tied it up, but the defense is atrocious. The Saints are already at the Packers’ 15 because the Packers can’t stop the pass. Drew Brees is not Kyle Orton. 21-14 Saints. Over and out.

8:48 PM: I would love to punch Tony Kornholio in the mouth, and given the chance, I will. Just get a room and be done with it. Call me the hater, because I hate Tony Kornholio. Punch it in Rodgers just to stick it to this f?ckin’ blowhard.

8:59 PM: The Packers special teams goes to sleep after Rodgers does indeed punch it in by running it and now the Packers are down 24-21 at the end of the half. Good job defense. It is like everything that could go against the Packers is going against the Packers. At least Jaws told Kornholio to shut the f?ck up about Favre. The Packers’ defense better regroup at half because they are getting killed. The Packers’ offense has held the ball for seven minutes more than the Saints and still the defense gave up 24 points. I hope Rodgers can keep up.

9:39 PM: Al Harris said they were the best in the NFL. 31 points in 35 minutes. Oops 38, (thanks to Rodgers), bottom line Al, Saints win, you lose, this game. See you later this week, unless Rodgers pulls off a Frank Reich. Not likely with no defense. See you next year. I certainly don’t have the energy nor inclination to put up with the crap that will come the rest of the year. Win or lose. I guess I wasn’t cut out to be a blogger. See you in January with a recap.

I hoped for the best and got the worst. Oh well. The Packers are still my team and I will be in Lambeau next week cheering them on. Been fun, I guess. See ya.

  • Ima Genius Ur Not

agreed. AJ Hawk has not been an impact player.

  • Will

is it just me or does hawk look fat and slow?

  • Doug R

they appear to be employing the bend and break defense

  • Ima Genius Ur Not

    huge play
    need a stop

  • http://www.yahoo.com SN

Hold the presses!!! The Packers made a stop!
Oh wait, the Saints are going for it. Never mind. They will probably get it.

  • Ima Genius Ur Not

    screw it…

  • Ima Genius Ur Not

Brandon Chillar/AJ Hawk cannot shed a block

  • Will

    51… and counting. Abosolutely embarassing

  • Oconomowockid

I am completely frustrated with where we are at as a team. This is a game that we should not be getting blown out in.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Just………..Maybe???????????? The Packers have beeen holding Favre back the last few years……. Anyone who likes Favre should be happy, I think they did him a favor!!!!! Found him a new team and maybe a chance for a SB!!! Doesn’t appear he’d have gotten it this year w/the Pack!!

  • RayL

The interception machine is on fire……3 Picks……hmmmm

  • Will

3 picks and looking like a scared little girl back there. 5-6 is wonderful

  • Oconomowockid

    Devil,
    I think you maybe right!!

  • paul

What did TT do to make this team better in 2008? PLLLEEEEEAAASSEEEE!!

  • http://www.yahoo.com SN

The linebacker play is really scary. Barnett was disappointing before he was hurt. Hawk is a step slow.

  • RayL

He signed CHillar, traded C. Williams, cut Ryan for Frost, and told our best player #4 that he wasn’t wanted anymore…but he has plenty of salary cap….left

  • Ima Genius Ur Not

Frost needed to be cut yesterday

  • http://www.yahoo.com SN

No kidding. 26 yard punt. Unbelievable. In a frickin dome, no less.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

I think if needed………. The Saint’s could have put up 70 points easy!!!

  • RayL

TT Kool-Aid anyone? come out, come out where ever you are……

  • RayL

what a critical interception by AR. where was he throwing the ball?

  • TRIP

Al: We are looking at 2009 now. How can the Packers get better between now and then?

In politics, business, virtually every area of enterprise, people look for individuals experience in turning organizations around… yeah you know where I’m going with this.

I mean, QBs are put in rough situations at times. Rodgers didn’t respond any better than the “Interception Machine” on IM’s worst day. So Rodgers was IM Jr. tonight? Him getting 3 INTs was gracious because it could easily have been 5. But in no way was this loss A-Rod fault, I’m not a player-bigot like you Al. But clearly, A-Rod did not play in a way that could get us out the hole.

  • TRIP

    RayL:

Oh, I want that TT Kool-Aid right now.

I’d be telling the truth if I wanted to commit SUICIDE!

‘Cause that’s what is happening to this team, it’s dying.

    13-3 to 5-6????????????????

    4-12 to 8-3????????????????

That’s how we add things up in the NFL, WINS and LOSSES.

Before Favre, we were just another, mediocre team.

After Favre………. time will tell, but I know what it looks like.

And yes, Al, being able to blog ONLY when things are going your way is a sign of not having a good argument and is a sign you do not have what’s required to be a good blogger. See you in January? lol, I doubt it, though. You need people like me to keep you honest!

    Enough said.

  • AATP

Incredible, we lose a winnable game and it F@ck this guy and F@ck that guy – what the hell Paul? I think we’re all frustrated but geez man – they just plain played better then we did and it wasn’t all on Rodgers – the defenese wasn’t doing squat so Rodgers started forcing things trying to make something happen. One mistake on an offense that can’t be stopped and you’re done. Rodgers was doing all he could, the receiver fell on the first pick and was totally out of the play, the second pick was a force but the receiver didn’t even look like he knew the ball was coming (or even cared) and by the third pick I had switched it over to a TV show. That guy Frost, what the HELL are they thinking keeping him on this roster. That is utter stupidity. He should be gone… But I’ve seen that we really don’t know what we have here for a team and I think it was more then proven today. Anyone that’s gunning for Favre is an idiot, say what you want, but this one was lost at the end of the first half and Rodgers was doing fine. He realized no matter what they did on offense our defense couldn’t stop the Aints. I guess Breese got the last laugh on this one… So next week we get that dominant team right? Isn’t that kinda the way it’s been?

RayL, what the hell is with the Kool-Aid statement – that’s about immature at this point in the season.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Interesting how some posters reapppear…. all of a sudden!!!

  • Oconomowockid

Let’s be honest TT did nothing to make us a better team in the off season. He was so focused on managing the PR regarding Favre he forgot to do his job which is to make our team better. Thompson should be held responsible. He is poor to say the least. I don’t want to hear about being a young team or rebuilding. Thompson and the entire Packer management should be held accountable.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

This’ll take a paragraph tomorrow. Takes a paragraph when they win, if you wanna do justice, even with few mistakes.

  • AATP

I think many of you should go back through your blogs over the past 11 weeks and see how back and forth each of you are. Regardless of whether you like or hate TT or MM – which the jury is still out for most of us I think. Many of you have been trying to be judge and jury since the beginning of the season.

Here’s some reality – be pissed, show your frustration but remember, no matter what we do to vent our frustrations nothing is going to change this season in regards to the Albino Barn Owl and The Tub. The end of the season will spell doom and gloom where it is warranted and the fear of a 1980′s relapse will be dealt with I’m quite sure but to say we’re suddenly doomed to that fate now just because Brett Favre is no longer at the helm is proposterous. Sure, he brought a certain type of chemistry to the team, but it appears Aaron is doing the same. The inconsistency isn’t his fault and I whole-heartedly believe Favre wouldn’t have been able to salvage this team either. We’ve seen Favre play frustrated before and those seasons were not good ones. I honestly think his patience would have ran out with this team and he probably would have called it curtains.

I guess I can’t make judgement yet on where this team is headed – I can say the management is bit cloudy but I think we have the right talent for this team to very very good. I’m starting to think our Defensive scheme isn’t all that great cause it appears our DLine hasn’t bought into the Gap assignments otherwise there wouldn’t be these gaping holes all over the place. Christ, I saw them line up on D and noticed there was no contain on the weak side – shit, and the Aints saw it too and ran right at it for 16 yards. There was so much confusion on the Defense it was almost like they didn’t prepare all week to face these guys. Our defense looked like kindergartners out there.

I still love this team and hope we find a TRUE identity cause the end of the season is closing in fast and TT hasn’t really wowwed a lot a people, including the announcers, other coaches or the analysts. So I assume that blank stare he had tonight on TV was cause he’s feeling the noose starting to tighten a tad.

    AATP:

You sound like an utter fool, even though I’m sure you aren’t. The game was lost at HALFTIME? Down by 3 points. You sound like Andy Reid, look where that got him on Sunday. Stop making excuses for A-Rod’s inaccuracy! No one here (ESPECIALLY AL) has hardly ever pardoned Favre’s INTs that could be contributed to the WRs. And the first INT should have been the only one. The second was horribly under-thrown. The third was off. TWO MORE should have been picked! It wasn’t over at half-time, A-Rod stunk it up during the second half!!! The defense stunk it up the whole game! All that equals 51-29, 3 turnovers (INTs).

And the kool-aid statement is as mature as all the rest of the propaganda on here.

  • AATP

Oh, Sorry TRIP, gotta be more specific – when they started the second half and couldn’t stop them from scoring…

  • AATP

OH, and must I forget to also throw blame at the special teams… they sucked it up as well… wait, it was the entire team that looked like a bunch of 5th graders out there… I think they may have been watching the wrong film to study for this game.

  • http://Orlando Mark

Other than Kampman no D-line pressure and we don’t know when or how to blitz. Bad kick coverage game. #12 can’t go empty backfield. Our offense was working until we abandoned the run. We beat the Bears and Colts that bad and they came back. The Panther’s will run on us but we have them at home. There’s no sense crying, this is who we are, and believe it or not we’re still in it.

  • AATP

No kidding Mark – sad but true, we are still in it…

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Think I’ll leave it for tomorrow………… Yeah, I remember “98″ when the Packers would be down by 35 points at half on Monday Night Football. Think I’ll leave it for tomorrow though….

  • TRIP

AATP: “I whole-heartedly believe Favre wouldn’t have been able to salvage this team either. We’ve seen Favre play frustrated before and those seasons were not good ones.”

    Which one?
    1992- 9-7
    1993- 9-7 (won a playoff game)
    1994- 9-7 (won a playoff game)
1995- 11-5 (won two playoff games)
    1996- 13-3 (won a SB)
    1997- 13-3 (won a NFC Championship)
    1998- 11-5 (playoff berth)
    1999- 8-8
    2000- 9-7
    2001- 12-4 (won a playoff game)
    2002- 12-4 (playoff berth)
    2003- 10-6 (won a playoff game)
    2004- 10-6 (playoff berth)
    2005- 4-12
    2006- 8-8
2007- 13-3 (bye and playoff win)

Now please help me identify which seasons you are referring to?

I guess we can eliminate the playoff seasons. Would it be 1992, his first season as a starter? Or 1999, a 8-8, Ray Rhodes’ only season? Or 2002, a 9-7, Sherman’s first? Or 2005, a 4-12, Sherman’s last?

I don’t know what team you’ve been watching, but I’ve never seen Favre have a frustrated season, nevertheless seasonS. Get real.

  • Michael Legat

I got everybody’s Kool Aid right frickin’ here.

Aaron Rodgers proved tonight that he’s one of us, almost no different from Brett. You have to give credit to the Green Bay Packers. When they fail, they fail spectacularly.

  • TRIP

    Almost…. almost………………………………………….

  • mike

AJ Hawk will never be the impact player drafted. After three years, a top ten first rounder pick is not even close to pro bowl form. I would have expected a break out year and it will not happen this year. His stats have fallen off each year. If he does not turn things around, he will be gone by the end of next year. What a busted for the money.

He can not hold a candle to Barnett. This guy has been the best LB we have had in a long long time. Very consistence each year since drafted.

  • http://Orlando Mark

Mike, except for the recievers, Blackmon and the run game it all looks bad today. This is the worst game in a long time. At Chicago last year, even in the 4-12 year we were in most of the games.

  • Pete H

Well that was one hell of an effort by the defense. I mean you almost have to try to be that bad. Rodgers was not sharp, but Jennings fell on the first one and then the wheels came off. I can’t even blame the secondary all that much. Where the F is a pass rush! Even when Sanders did blitz nobody got through. These guys are getting completely iced with one on one blocks. I don’t care if Jenkins got hurt for the year. I know that there will be a dropoff from his play, but these clowns don’t even belong in a uniform right now. How long do you expect your secondary to be able to cover? Chillar and Hawk were a joke. How is Montgomery starting……or rather playing? THis guy is a D end and has about as much pass rush ability as Donnie Humphrey. Maybe they ought to bring KGB back in…..he wasn’t good, but he sure as hell isn’t worse than dillweed over there and at least he is another warm body to put out there. How does the strength of a championship game defense go to being an absolute liability? Offense was actually quite impressive. Very few, if any, penalties. Good holes for Grant, solid enough protection, even with Tauscher out, good imagination….Hell, they put up 29 points relatively easy. That first pick was ballgame though. Then there is Frost. I do not for the life of me understand how a team that is decimated at D line can cut someone for lack of production….which I am not against….but a F@!#ing punter can suck this bad week after F#@$ing week and they brought in 2 people….once at the beginning of the year. If for no other reason than to make a point cut him and get anyone else. I don’t care if he has no feet…it might make the point better that way. What it all comes down to though…again…inconsistent crap week to week.

  • RayL

What an impact player Justin Harrell is. Nice job TT, what an impact player Frost is…nice job TT.

  • Dan

Why doesn’t MM wake up? It’s ridiculous that the Saints defense knew our pass patterns better than Rodgers.

On the first INT, Jennings was covered high/low. There was a guy deeper than Jennings, so you don’t throw deep. There was also a guy playing 5 yards underneath and jogging with Jennings. The second Jennings tried to stop and cut back, the defender was breaking on the ball. Rodgers had NO business throwing there. The best that Jennings could have done was tackle the defender after that interception.

Repeatedly the defense knew where the Packers WRs were going.

This was a bad game by Rodgers (against a defense that hasn’t stopped anyone all season). That’s part of the learning curve. The next 2-3 season’s will tell his future. My only concern is that 2-3 years under McCarthy will be a complete waste.
This teams has too much talent to be this bad. The responsibility falls on MM!!!!

5 games left to fix it. There’s still time, but it has to start with the head coach realizing opposing teams have learned his and Rodgers tendencies and learning from it.

  • PETE H

The Packers put up 29 points with relative ease, so I have some issues with your argument. They had a solid offensive game plan. Yes later they knew where we were going and could also afford to take chances defensively…thats what happens when you are getting whooped. Now I am not saying that Rodgers was spot on…..I belive I pointed that out earlier….they gave up 51 points! Thats really all that needs to be said. Its not like we were stopping them in the first half, before the picks started happening. Its not like they were even pausing them in the first, or second, half. Their defense got shredded….all except Harris. I know that sounds odd considering the passing day Brees had, but the only ball Colston caught was on Woodson. Harris played well. Thats it

  • gopackgo

Let’s face it; TT is not helping this team get better and MM can’t get the team to play consistently week to week. Frost does need let go and the defense doesn’t get pressure. 8 and 8 at best this year.

  • paul

The Jets defensive players in the New York media state that Favre has affected all aspects of that team from special teams, offense (obviously) AND defense in his leadership role. That stat cannot be measured. I think he knew so much about the game that TT was threatened. i.e. Favre wanting his guards, Mooch, Moss, etc. One losing season….ever. Pack 13-3 to perhaps 8-8. Jets 4-12 to 13-3? HHMMMMMM!

Sorry about the F-bombs last night, very disappointed and under the influence of 3 home brews. Peace out.

PS. Ryan gone, Williams gone, Favre gone….pick up Chillar, a cut from Redskin team punter and 12 million under the cap…opppss, I think Rodgers gets all of that now. Not a formula for winning at least from my view. Mediocre teams look great one game and stink it up the next. Hope for 9-7 but I doubt it, and as always…hope I am wrong.

  • roy jamison

What ever happened to Jim Bates?
BTW….Frosty the puntman needs to melt away.

  • roy jamison

One other observation, how can a domed stadium have such a lousey field? There was more slipping and sliding by both teams than I have seen for awhile. Even the glad bag metrodome isn’t that bad.

  • Dan

The Saints have 13 players on the IR (done for the year). Including 4 DTs and 1 DE, 2 CBs (McKenzie their best CB and another CB who was either their second or third CB). As the announcers on Fox, CBS, NBC, and ESPN all pointed out before the game, the Packers were expected to move the ball with ease and put up points. The Saints defense is decimated, so 29 points against them only shows we’re a capable offense.

Yes, the defense stunk, but part of the formula against the Saints was to control the ball and eat up clock. Where was this in the second half?

  • roy jamison

How many 70 yard touchdown passes do you see in an average NFL game by one team?

  • roy jamison
