Dream dies in the Big Easy

In America’s real Sin City the Green Bay Packers found defending Drew Brees to be a devilish task and in the end the Packers’ playoff hopes died with an awful sound. Not even Funky Claude could save the Packers on this night. The best secondary in the NFL, just ask them, was torched early and often and left New Orleans in a shamble. This unit will never be the same again as the Saints showed just how easy it is to beat an average linebacking core and aging secondary. Shutting down Tarvaris Jackson, John Kitna, Brian Griese, Gus Frerrotte, Kyle Orton is easy, shutting down Drew Brees is not. The Packers had their heads so far in the clouds they couldn’t even see the Superdome. For whatever reason, head coach Mike McCarthy always has his team thinking they are better than they are. I would think it should be just the opposite.

McCarthy’s blatant refusal to run the ball is certainly going to be his demise as a head coach. We saw it happen with Mike Sherman. Sherman saw first hand how easy it is when you have a great running game when Ahman Green ran for 1800 yards in 2002 I think it was. If he would have given it to Green one more time that year there never would have been fourth-and-26. After that all the Packers did was pass and quarterback Brett Favre had two of his worst seasons of his career, throwing 29 interceptions in Sherman’s last season as head coach. McCarthy, after seeing Ryan Grant save his season last year by rushing for 1000 yards while only starting 9 games (including playoffs), is now following the same path as Sherman. McCarthy wouldn’t give the ball to Grant in the NFC Championship game and used him only sporadically this year, instead relying on a first-year starter at quarterback to win the game. I would think it should be just the opposite.

General manager Ted Thompson has improved almost every position on this team but has failed miserably at offensive line, defensive line and now punter. The linebackers are not that great either. As far as the offensive line is concerned I attribute part of that to the stupid zone-blocking scheme the Packers use. Instead of grading a conventional lineman the Packers either have to find guys who know the zone-blocking scheme, which are few, or project how a guy in a real system will adjust to the Packers’ harebrained scheme. I’m starting to wonder about the scheme on defense, too. Guys like Johnny Jolly and Colin Cole show glimpses of great play, but can never sustain it. Cullen Jenkins was becoming a force when he got hurt, but it doesn’t seem like a defense that really allows the lineman to make plays. Just hold your gap and wait for help. There must be a reason why nobody wanted Jim Bates anymore. The bump-and-run works great on average receivers, but the system doesn’t allow adjustments because the corners only know one style of playing. If they are getting burned, they will continue to get burned, just like Al Harris in last year’s NFC Championship game. The Packers had no answer, and last night, they were absolutely clueless. If the secondary is as good as Al Harris says it is, wouldn’t that be just the opposite?

Thompson has clearly made his mistakes. While he really had no choice but to take A.J. Hawk, Hawk has proven to be just another guy. I don’t have a problem with taking a defensive lineman the next year, but he clearly picked the wrong one. One almost has to consider the Corey Williams trade a mistake, even though I don’t know what Williams is even doing in Cleveland, but by taking Brian Brohm with the pick received from Cleveland was clearly a mistake. I do think Jordy Nelson will be a major player, but not if he makes mistakes like he did last night. I think he’ll gets better. Certainly Thompson’s last two drafts are nothing to write home about. The moves he makes in 2009 will determine his future if you ask me.

The reason I think the Packers’ playoffs died last night is simple. To win the division they would have to win their last five games to have any chance even that might not get it done if the Vikings beat the Bears Sunday. There will be no wildcard entry from the NFC North. You can rip me if you want, but I’ll be happy with 8-8 at this point in time. A non-losing season at least and hopefully 16 games of experience for Aaron Rodgers. This offseason Rodgers will have plenty of film to watch of himself and this is a guy who is always trying to get better, much like his predecessor.  I do think the Packers have the talent to win all five games, but they have not shown the consistent good play that they would require to win five straight. If McCarthy puts the offense on Ryan Grant’s capable shoulders, it would certainly help matters. Let’s see where it goes from here, the Packers are at this season’s crossroads. Plenty of football to be played, and the character of men will be revealed, from the front office on down to the players.

  • Pete H

I pretty much agree on all counts…..other than the secondary issues. I like the idea of in your face coverage, but if you can’t get pressure it is pointless. Nobody…..nobody can cover as long as the Packers D backs are being made to. Harris gave up nothing, Woodson gave up one play…granted it was bad, but again he had to cover his guy forever. My problem is that they still don’t blitz enough. If your line is as bad as they are at getting pressure and you are going to play bump and run, then you have to blitz often, not occaisionally. As embarrassing as it may be if they get to the playoffs, they still have a wide open shot at it. Remember the Vikes are going to lose the Williams boys for four, and that is the end of them. We are a game out of the Bears with one left to play against them. Anybody’s game yet. I will say that for this team to come in thinking anything about themselves is irritating. What the hell is MM thinking? As many have said here, put even two games like the Bears or Colts game back to back, and then start feeling better about yourselves.

  • Matt Hayton

Very nice post, Al. I think you summed up our current position pretty well…After watching last night’s game, even I had to admit that there is more wrong with his team than just the average QB play we’ve seen from Rodgers all year long.

And yes I know every one will send me 8 posts w/stats supporting how great of a year AR has had – save it, when you are 0-4 in close games and you can’t win on the road in November, you’re an average QB in the NFL, period.

Here’s what I don’t get– TT why are such a frickin’ draft prima dona that you didn’t set this team up for success w/your anointed one? OL and DL are quite ordinary and if you would’ve pulled the trigger on a couple players in FA (or not traded away Corey Williams to get another one of your 1st round draft picks on the field…even w/AR, we would have one a couple more games. Why does it all have to be done with his drafted players? Start spending Teddy or you’ll be gone at the end of next year. I think TT is now on the clock and this team is mediocre next year, he’ll be out the door at the end of the season. Which he rightfully deserves for giving away the greatest play in Packer history…what a frickin’ idiot…

  • iccyfan

I’m as disappointed as everyone else in the overall performance of our favorite team, but I’m not surprised the Saints prevailed. Going into last night, the Saints were 4-1 at home and the Packers were 2-3 on the road. As for Brees picking apart our secondary, the man was already on pace to break Marino’s all-time season yardage mark! It’s not the end of the world. As one of the Packer beat writers pointed out on Monday morning, this was not a MUST WIN game. That will take place in Chicago in mid-December.

For anyone who can remember the Majkowski and early Favre years, this week in / week out inconsistency culminating in a “final weekend determination of playoff status” brings back memories (not all good ones either).

  • RayL

MH – agreed. People are now seeing what I have been talking about for months now and TT will get his just reward! Can’t wait for the day he is fired! He is a complete idiot and moron and is an imcompetent GM. PERIOD!

  • Michael Legat

Very true. This season is the first half of the nineties all over again. Hopefully, the second half of the nineties will follow.

Hayton, I’m not going to argue with your harsh but fair analysis of Rodgers thus far, other than to say that in this league, “average” is as good a place to start as any. The upside is there, and he has shown himself to be one of about 50 on the team in the inconsistency department. Nobody’s closing the deal on this team right now.

I know that TT is a popular and convenient source by which to vent everyone’s frustration. Much of it is fair. If we aren’t happy with the management of this team, by definition, the general manager would be the person to take it up with. The only point I will make is this: Operating under the assumption that Ted Thompson likes his job and wants to keep it, he should be very aware of what fixes need to be made to get this team back in shape.

  • Michael Legat

RayL, libraries could be filled with what you don’t know. Go knee-jerk yourself off.

  • Michael Legat

Feel the need to elaborate: I am so tired of hayseed, borderline-retarded fans who look at last night’s loss and somehow correlate a poorly schemed and executed game by a team one game out of first place in their division with sweeping personnel issues and connect their one f#@king dot to the general manager. If you are one of those people (and you know who you are), go join the mouth breathers on the Fox Sports message boards and leave the rest of us who know what the f#@k they’re talking about alone here.

  • http://Orlando Mark

If our kick coverage and punting were better we wouldn’t have once again abandoned our running game. We were successful and would have worn them down if we stuck with it. It’s got to be blindingly obvious that #12 isn’t #4 when it comes to empty backfield pass only offense. You need the short dump offs to the tight end and backs to act like a run game and bring the DB’s up. With the D-line this year we’ve got to control the ball. We were totally exposed when we fell behind and panicked, The Patriots did that to other teams last year. But when they went against a good pass rush and ball control offense they lost. I cant wait to see Brees go against Tampa’s blitz and ball control.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

Mark, after my post tonight I saw who the Saints were playing next week and said the same thing. Watch a real defense next week play against the Saints and see what happens. I’ll be shocked if Brees throws for 300.

  • RayL

Michael Legat – Did I strike a nerve with you? Would you like a baba or a sippie cup? You are a TT Kool-Aid drinker and you obviously can’t see what TT is doing to GB. Everyone else in the media and the experts know it…they knew it when he ran BF out of town and they know it now. You don’t have the ability to recognize what TT very easily could ave accomplished with this Team…sorry if you don’t “get it” but I and many others see right through TT and we don’t like it! You have a problem with that? Tough cookies! The day is coming…I hope you cry when he leaves….b/c I am gonna celebrate!

  • Michael Legat

    You are dumber than paint.

  • Michael Legat

The problem isn’t criticizing Ted Thompson. The problem is you are not smart enough to know what to criticize him for and why. Keep talking about Favre and Justin Harrell. Impress us with your vast knowledge of the situation. Moron.

  • RayL

M.Legat – A poorly schemed and executed game plan by a team 1 game out of first place in their division…you make it sound so good…are you in politics by any chance . what you just described is totally unacceptable for the 11th game of the season in a game with this much importance. I think your just making excuses for TT and MM. The reality is….GB got embarrased in every way last night, and it’s not about scheme or execution. It’s about talent, and if TT had done his JOB and brought in a couple of additions we would not be 5-6. very simple…even you should understand that!

  • Michael Legat

Aachh. I have OD’d on rageahol.

RayL, I apologize. I am being presumptuous.

I have just had so much exposure to pull string, yell “fire Ted” puppets lately, that I assume most of them don’t know what the hell they are talking about. The overreaction on both sides is so fucking tiresome. This season has been bad enough without it. I’m going to stop posting for a little bit, play with the cat or something.

    Go Pack, whatever.

  • Michael Legat

It’s a little of everything, Ray. Scheme, execution and talent. That’s all I’m trying to say.

  • RayL

    M. Legat – I have already stated many reasons that TT should be fired..if you still can’t see it then there is no hope for you keep on buying into him …..and I hope you and TT have fun watching the JETS in the playoffs this year…

  • RayL

    M. Legat…I accept you apolgy and I apolizize to you as well.. We are Packer fans and should behave better than this….and not act like Bear fans…

It is very frustrating watching this year….I truly can’t stand TT and won’t rest til he is gone.,….but I will try to refrain from the pot shots…OK?

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

Mike – we seem to forget that fans know more about the NFL than anybody. We also seem to forget that going out and getting superstar players is easy. Just offer this or that and boom you got a Super Bowl team. How can we be so stupid? I feel like an idiot.

  • RayL

Admin – don’t spin or twist what I’m saying. I never said we should buy the superbowl by signing all of the big name high priced free agents. I do feel we should have made some moves in free agency and balanced it with a good draft. Look we could use Faneca …no doubt. we could have a Greg olsen in place of Justin Harrell. I just don’t think TT is in the same game that the packer fans are….that’s all .

  • http://Orlando Mark

Al, it wouldn’t be easy and we don’t need superstars. But how did the Jets get Jenkins and Faneca without giving up a draft choice. Surely we could do that if we wanted to. I admit it wouldn’t be smart to overdo free agency but you can’t address your needs in the bargain basement. (BTW thanks for this site)

  • TRIP

Wait, did I read kind words about Aaron Rodgers’ predecessor? I think I just had a heat stroke!

“McCarthy’s blatant refusal to run the ball is certainly going to be his demise as a head coach.” Al, that’s a lot easier said than done when your defense couldn’t cover a WR corps of Betty White, Rosie O’Donnell and Regis Philbin, if they had to. Not saying I disagree, I’m just saying that that was the game that we needed Aaron to stick to the accuracy that he’s been praised for. It didn’t happen.

“Ted Thompson has improved almost every position on this team but has failed miserably at offensive line, defensive line and now punter.” Let’s try some basic math. THAT’S 22 OUT OF 53 PLAYERS. Hello!!! I don’t want a GM that fails at 42% of player positions. Not to say that all 22 of them suck, but do than don’t! And we didn’t have a feared QB to mask some of those problems this year.

But Al, stop criticizing MM and TT, you are sounding less like propaganda. I guess at 5-6 you have no choice.

  • TRIP

Mark, they did pay a pick for ONE important player!

  • http://Orlando Mark

Trip I’d love to see that be a first rounder for a lot of reasons. But even #4 couldn’t do well without their running game(Faneca) and defense(Jenkins) helping out. We could use some help too. Unless TT changes his philosophy I’m afraid that wont happen until he’s gone.

  • Pete H

How can MM say that this team has been consistent? How can he defend Frost? I am utterly stunned with this punting thing. What does this clown have on these guys? Unfuckingbelieveable….he is a damn PUNTER! Its not like you spent a first round pick. Its not like he’s learning the position. He kicks the fucking ball!!! and he can’t do that any better than most college kids. Where is the accountability? How is it that they felt the need to cut KGB while their line is decimated for poor play, but won’t cut a punter? And now, you can’t tell me that KB couldn’t provide more of a pass rush than these Bozos. LOrd you already paid him for the season…..also they have an empty roster spot from Barnett that they have yet to fill……WTF are you waiting for. GO FUCKING SIGN A FOOTBALL PLAYER YOU CHEAP FUCK

  • Pete H

Al, I get what you are saying about Williams. He might not be doing for Cleve. what he did here, but he is playing solid football, and what he did here was provide a rush from the interior, which these slugs couldn’t do with no line blocking them. Now, do I think our defense is as bad as they looked Mon. no, the Saints are plain nasty. the bonus is that they probably won’t make the playoffs and the only other team with anything like that arsenal is Dallas. Their defense matches up well with the rest of the NFC, somewhat proven by the fact that they have played with everyone else this year…..all hope is not lost, but MM better find a way to get more out of his players…..NOW

  • RayL

TT simply isn’t making sound decisions. He cut KGB to make a roster spot for JH, when our D-line was decimated…hmmmm maybe he could have cut another position? He cut Ryan 1-week prior to the 1st game of the season for Frost? hmmmm he trades C. Williams for a draft pick? His only 2 free agent signings in 2 yrs are Frank Walker and B. Chillar? He passes on Greg Olsen and the Bears…who needed a TE and hey, guess what Teddie? They drafted for need , maybe we should try that….instead of wasting a # 16 on an injury proned broken down JH. Great point Pete…#4 would not be 8-3 without Faneca and Jenkins…both FA’s. Would I have loved to shave seen the Jenkins brothers & Faneca and Favre in green and gold.

  • stomps

    Here’s my question..

The most shocking thing lately to me is Frost. In Ryan we had a sometimes unreliable punter, but he was at or near the top of the preseason punt average when he was cut. This leads me to believe it was something besides his play that got him cut…. Anyone know the real story?

BTW Frost is 25th in the league and Ryan is 7th with Seattle.

  • iccyfan

I’d like to reiterate a point for everyone who continues to pine for BF and moan about this team’s inconsistency. This season is near identical to the early 1990′s (ie – early Favre years) where the Packers would finish 9-7 and we wouldn’t know playoff status until the final weekend. See 1994, where the Packers fell to 6-7 with a road loss at Detroit in week 14, only to win the final three and sneak into the playoffs at 9-7. That was BF’s third season as starter. In 1993 (BF’s second year), Packers lost three of their final five (including a home loss to Minnesota) on their way to the playoffs at 9-7. The inconsistency of this year’s squad is not unprecedented and young Rodgers is doing a pretty good imitation of young Favre, with less on-field game experience I might add…

While I agree that the punter situation is infuriating, I don’t think it was TT’s worst move of the final preseason week. By everybody’s account, Abdul Hodge had an excellent preseason, yet Ted cut him and kept Tracy White / Desmond Bishop. Theoretically, this was done because Bishop & White excelled on special teams. Hodge would be a welcome addition in the middle right about now (and I’ve gotta think he could have played special teams)…

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Things didn’t look good from the first Saint’s TD. The safety was lined up 15 yards deep and had to run up and cover the dump guy(s). I know don’t they don’t want to show the blitz but you can’t have coverage that far from the hot read. The biggest problem w/this team is defensive line. I’m not sure of their assignments for their 1 or 2 gap responsibilities (what do they have, anyway?) but it looks like they’re taking on a blocker to free up the LB’s. They’d better get rid of that shit and find a gap, shoot through it into the bacfkfield and tackle every damn thing in sight!!! I see that someone mentioned and I’ve asked before, has Bate’s defense ever been tested in a SB? And the Packer’s are getting out-coached. They certainly have to realize that teams will bunch and motion receivers to get them off clean. They better get stuff in place for that. The D was caught off guard a couple times, once w/just a quick hike when they were getting to their spots and the other when Hawk was working on lining up guys instead of taking care of the TE running to the endzone. Unfortunately, Rodgers has to wait til the defense lines up so he knows what to do (coaching) and they need to throw some deep ones. The defenses are starting to play the short dump and dink stuff. Looks like the poor guy is getting over coached instead of just playing football. O-line looks just OK. This will all play out in the next year and a half. If they don’t make the play-offs (which they still have a chance) and follow up w/a bad year, next year…. you all will get what you want. Or they’ll get it right… Win-win.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Oh, yeah. In fairness to the Packers, Bree’s didn’t make any bad throws. Hard to beat that. They’d have been better off to sell out in total blitzes to try and force the issue. Sometimes you just have to create your own breaks.

  • Lew

Al, did you really just say that TT “has improved almost every position on this team but has failed miserably at offensive line, defensive line and now punter. The linebackers are not that great either”?

That involves 13/22 starters. Oh an the QB is not better either. And Grant is not even close to what Ahman was 2002-2005. And FB is also worse. You make a good point except the real statement should be “All Ted Thompson has done has improved the secondary and wide receivers”

Wow is this a frustrating year

  • snyz

amen lew. granted, tramon williams, bigby and collins have been solid, and greg jennings was a great pick.

james jones can’t stay on the field, jordy nelson is… well, jordy nelson. and pat lee can’t seem to earn himself any PT. 4352 draft picks in three years and not as much there as everyone would like to think.

  • snyz

oh and by the way comparisons to the early 90′s are fruitless. there are plenty of seasons where the pack finished around .500, why does everyone want to go to the early f’in 90s? what next?

ron wolf keeps showing up at training camp practices in the off-season. let’s just give him the job back.

  • JeffN

Wow the over reaction to all of this is really sickening. Is this where everyone comes to vent? Put some thought into the things you say people and know your issues before you talk and take the emotion out of it before you post.

Yeah it’s a tough season. Deal with it. It’s football and football is not very predictable so don’t be surprised when things don’t go your way; and don’t be surprised when the GM or coach doesn’t do what you want them to cuz I’m sure if any of you or I was running the show it would be much worse.

If you think you can do the job better than any of the coaches or GMs in this league put your app in and make a few $100K or $million more than you are now.

  • Oconomowockid

JeffN, thanks for the guidance and lecture we all greatly appreciate it. I am sure we will all take it into consideration before we post again.

  • AATP

I posted this on the last Blog and figured I’d just copy and paste it here since we’re still kinda discussing it:

I don’t think we’d be headed any closer to the super bowl then we are now… but then again it’s all speculation and really has no place in conversation for this season. As pissed as Favre was you really think he was going to be focused on a SB with this team? You really think he was going to overlook the issues he had with teh management and take one for the Gipper? Bullsh&t… He would have played half-assed and that’s why he decided to go to a team he really didn’t care about either way. Turns out it may work out for the best for his new team and for our team in the future. Like I said earlier, TT will be judged come the end of this season and if ol’ BF gets to the SB and the Packers continue to fail miserably, we get a first round pick and the possibility that TT looks for a life preserver to float on outta town. Then again, maybe not, maybe TT sticks around for another year and we’ll be right back on here pissed and wanting his head on a stake – but we’ll still be hoping this team wins regardless of whether BF retires after this season or not.

  • AATP

Hmmm… one of my posts suddenly disappeared… what’s up with that?

  • AATP

Did anyone read this regarding Frost?

Punter Derrick Frost got a bit agitated Wednesday after fielding several questions about his on-going struggles.

He ended a brief interview with several reporters by walking away from his locker in the middle of answer.

Frost punted poorly in Monday’s loss to the Saints and hasn’t been the strong directional punter the Packers had hoped for when they cut Jon Ryan and signed him the first week of the season.

“I’m just trying to move forward to next week, but everybody keeps asking me questions about last week,” Frost said. “I’m hitting the ball fantastic (in practice). The only thing I can do is show up in practice and hit the ball the best I can, and that’s what I’m doing. The frustrating part is it’s not happening in games, so it is what it is.”

Frost ended the interview after he was asked if he can handle criticism.

“I can handle criticism,” he said on his way out of the locker room.

    What a yutz…

  • Pete H

Boy JeffN, that was aproductive post. Yes, as fans we should not be emotional at all. We should watch the game as though we are watching CSPAN. You are brilliant! Never again should fans talk about football in respect to what they would like to see being done. Blind indifference…… that is the best way. I would like to ask you to do the same with your own posts. Better yet, we should all go to the game Sunday and just clap and cheer for Frosty because he’s doing the best he can right? Or the next time they give up 50+ points we should say “hey MM is a better coach than I could be so this is all right” When I see a movie from now on, I should just say, ” well, they did better than I could and movies are often unpredictable so I guess it must have actually been pretty good.” Get a spine……What are you related to Frost or something? I am pretty sure that after 30+ years of watching football and doling out my money to this team that I have earned the right to have an opinion and share it with those who also like to share theirs. This is a blog…..not Nickelodion.

  • http://Orlando Mark

JeffN people over react, just look at the stock market. But if I see something obvious, like we haven’t improved over last year, I’m going to ask why. Give my ideas and ask if anyone else can comment on that. If you try maybe you can think of something. To be honest we can use some ideas or at least some frigging balls.

  • paul

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Let us be happy today that we have the right and ability to bitch about football. If that Pack is the biggest of our worries we have a lot to be thankful for. 60% of the world does not have clean drinking water, terrorism in India today, etc. Hope you all eat and drink too much as I will and may the Cowgirls lose today, or at least I want to see TO cry. Peace.

  • Larry

Change. The operative word today, change. As Rush so often says “words have meaning”. An upward change in oil prices led to groceries up. Combined they made it hard for some to pay the mortgage, and banks failed. That led to a failed economy and change in WashDC. Sobit. Change (which I did, and still do support) has really led to whats happenning on the field today. I supported the youth movement in a big way and was proven right last year. Further change was implemented this spring (again, I supported wholeheartedly) and all of a sudden the maturity I expected via last year’s showing backfired on me. The inconsistancy we see today is a direct result of the youth movement, I’m sorry to admit. However, we’re within 3 at the half Monday nite. Then the change that changed the season. 7 1/2 minutes changed the season I’m afraid. Several, myself included, have charged that MM never makes any changes (theres that word again) at half-time. Well, he did after we fell 10 behind. Grant had 64 of his 67 in the 1st half and MM completely stopped running. We knew going in you had to keep the ball away from Brees. Hell, student body right every play would have been better. But thats hindsight. I was scared to death facing Bush and he didn’t even play. We are suffering because of change, obviously, but change had to be made regardless, to continue to build the foundation for the future. Now, while we still own tie-breakers, even if losing to da bearse, we need some breaks to get back to a tie in Division. With these guys I’m not so confident anymore but with the premium draft choices I feel the furture looks better. I also think this OL blocking scheme has to change because its too easy to scout against and our personnel are not strong enough. We have no RB that can make the cut to the outside of the pile. In short, we need more change.

  • AATP

Just wanted to post something positive for the holidays. I can’t stand the Cowboys, but Romo comes from Wisconsin and he proved how good the people of Wisconsin are.
A month or so back he stopped along a busy highway to help an old couple change a flat tire. Then, just last week, he was going to the movies with some friends and stopped by a homeless man that was handing out flyers to movie goers so he could have some money to eat and asked him to join Romo and his buddies to the movie. You wouldn’t see that from just any NFL player. It goes to prove that his Wisconsin roots are still firmly intact and that we raise ‘em right up there. But with that, I still want to see the Cowgirls lose today…

  • AATP

And with that in mind, I wish everyone on this board a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving holiday. Also, not sure if anyone’s been reading the sports columns out there for this holiday’s football games, but it appears the Lions are getting the Lions share of bashing – rightly so, but they are far worse off then we are so I thank my lucky stars that I’m a Packer fan right now. The basic premise is that the Lions will now to air their dirty laundry in prime time – the only prime time game they have this season.

So with that I give Thanks I was born and raise in Wisconsin, the best football state in the country.

  • Michael Legat

Without getting into details (not trying to drum up sympathy or anything of the sort), I lost the person I talked more Packer football about than anyone in January of this year – five days after the NFC Championship game, to be exact. I didn’t agree with him a lot of the time, but then, I don’t agree with several people on this board. I just want to thank you all for the Packer talk. It’s made this season and year in general a better one.

    Happy Thanksgiving all.

  • gopackgo

Prediction: pack play lions last game of the year; game will decide if pack get into playoffs; pack will lose the game losing the opportunity to go the playoffs and the lions will get their first win of the year. Complete offseason agony for all of us packer fans.
