Packers’ defense sucks

Without any help from the defense, the Packers have no chance to win. The 2008 season is over. See you in April. This time I mean it. Rip Ted Thompson all you want for trading Brett Favre, but the reality is the Packers’ defense is the worst in the NFL. They suck, they will always suck and the season is over. See you in the spring unless a miracle happens. Don’t count on it. Over and OUT!

I will take MM and TT over several options. However, just because it could be worse doesn’t excuse a less than stellar job. We could do the “it could be worse” till the cows come home, it is frustrating because ther are signs of a good team and stretches of good play….promptly followed by a morphing into the Lions for a quarter, half, single play, 3 game stretch etc….that is the point of contention with these two.

Uncle Teddy is putting together a good team. The only problem is, in the NFL good teams DON’T will Superbowls! He NEEDS to put together a GREAT team.

Hows that you ask? Spend some of the damn money! Building a team through the draft sounds good and is working for me on my X-Box Head Coach game but the reality is that you need to put some veteran personal in leadership positions to make a difference. Zone blocking works for Denver but so far not all that great for the Pack. Go and get personal that KNOW the zone blocking scheme! Grant and Jackson would be a great 1-2 punch if the “O” like were making holes for them. Rodgers is a good QB and will get better as time goes on but he will get better faster is the run game is working.

Have some FAITH my Packer fans. Look at it like this: At least you don’t live in PA like me and have to put up with Philly fans!

So, how is Wahle doing in Seattle anyway?? Also, I guess we’re probably not out of it yet…… If they’re ever going to suspend the William’s boys this year and the Bears obviously are beatable and then a bigger if…. the Pack can win out. Who knows?? I think MM looks terrible this year. I kept waiting for him to set up a few outside runs and then pop a reverse or somthing to start generating points and nada. If they can put some schemes, games with-in the game, things together for the palyers, sure would make it easier to execute. Defense can’t seem to executed a blitz but when they’ve gotten pressure, it’s affected the accuracy of the opposing QB. These guys need to make plays. Points and plays win. Those two big passes, the DB’s we’re in position to make a play except they chose not to break on the INT and instead let the receiver catch the ball and tackle. They could have won any but one game this year…… they needed to make a play. Refs sucked again…… I’m getting real tired of watching the reciver run into our DB’s to get the pass interference. I’m tired of seeing the receivers push off. Hell, last week on ESPN highlights was TO w/a big catch (pushing off). Funny they didn’t mention that. But anyway, the year just kind of seems jinxed, starting w/the whole Favre thing.

    MaxPack,

actually your number 5 scenario was my number 1 scenario and in actuality we got number 4 scenario

In 1/2 the scenarios you would be happy (winning) and say he was great and in half you would say he is an idiot (losing) and we would find a justification for it in hindsight.

If this is so easy, why isn’t every team a run away superbowl contender?

TT/MM are not perfect but they are better than probably 1/2 to 3/4 of the league and I don’t see any star GM’s or coaches on the horizon. Who should we hire as GM? Didn’t Ron Wolf give us Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman? If we could get Cowher and Parcells I would go for that but that’s about it right now and doubt that would happen.

  • Doug R

Btw, I’m frustrated with MM right now too. I think he is uncreative and not a particularly good leader. I just don’t know who would be better at this point without costing us a few more years of rebuilding.

  • Larry

Frost—Many on this site forget how frustrating Ryan’s punts into the end-zone were. Looks like we’re going to get our wish. Got to be concerned about the impact on the FGs tho.

  • AATP

I’m not so sure we need a new coach or new GM, I think we need AR or someone to really step up and give this team some fire. Give them the ol’ what for… I actually think MM needs a kick in the butt as well from someone… Our DC is as uncreative as they come and can’t seem to get this defense to buy into anything. The secondary folks had been playing really well, but once we got to some good QBs that could execute it was curtains. Our DB’s can’t cover a receiver for 30 seconds out there. Because the DL isn’t getting to the QB our DBs are being forced to cover these receivers way longer then they should have to… You let a guy stand back there that long and someone is bound to come open.

Asked if the Packers made a mistake in releasing former punter Jon Ryan during training camp, McCarthy said: “I don’t want to go there.”

TT and his wonderful GM skills I would say…

  • Michael Legat

Christmas has come early, and yet too late as well. Frost has been cut.

  • In Cheese We Trust

Unlike the way things usually go, the Frost is gone before winter begins! Is Ryan available?

  • Roy Jamison

Iccy, Thanks for the Frosty the Puntman song. I’ll be singing it while I watch some other teams in the playoffs this year. The only thing I could add would be, “Frosty, don’t hurry back someday.” Maybe the NFL could add a rule for Frosty giving him the option to throw a snowball instead of punting a cold hard football. It could be those coals he has for eyes make it difficult for him to see. I dunno…

Once again the great thing about the NFL is you see the results on the field. If you see improvement it should be rewarded, like #12′s contract. If you don’t and have too much tied up in an outcome you end up with Harrell. We saw a lot of that with Sherman and for that matter with the Lions and Millen. I hope we don’t have to wait for an 0-11 year to have some pressure to do something here.

  • Roy Jamison

    Michael thanks for that info:
    [edit] Green Bay Packers
Two days after being released by the Redskins, Frost was signed by the Green Bay Packers, who previously cut Jon Ryan. Frost replaced incumbent punter Jon Ryan on the roster. Frost was released by the Packers on December 1, 2008. Head coach Mike McCarthy stated that Frost performed well in practices, but did not do well during the games.
(Obviously what MM and TT now need to find is a kicker who really really sucks in practice but boots the hell out of it on game day.)

  • Roy Jamison

Thumppitty thump thump, Look at that Frosty the Puntman go…..

  • Roy Jamison

We can only hope that our next punter’s first name is Rudolph…..

  • PETE H

DA…how are Colledge, Moll, and Spitz doing? Wait….yep another false start, or rather holding……..doesn’t matter how Wahle is doing, it would have shown an effort to upgrade somewhere. He may have sucked, and they could release him at the end of the season with the same cap space they have now. Tell you what, what if he didn’t suck? We might have a line man who knows a f@#ing snap count…….Wahle AGAIN is an example, I am not saying they absolutely should have signed Wahle. I am saying that no effort was made. Noone said it was easy Doug, but that is what THEY get paid for….I don’t want some clowns that are allright, and better than 1/2. I want the upper echilon. As a fan that is always what I want. I root for the Packers, not TT, MM, Wolf, Holmgren, Starr, Lombardi, Devine, Rogers, Favre etc…If they aren’t getting the job done and costing playoff runs they whoever it is should go. I am still not saying that these guys should go yet, but they had better show something here and next year.

The defense did not lose the game , the special teams did.
This defense is the owrst in the league? are you kidding!!! This defense is the last defense that beat Peyton Manning and they really beat the Colts up.
14 points the Panthers got came off the Wells bad snap and a fumble that was forced by woodsen that was not recovered. So that means the defense gave up 21 points with their special teams putting them in troublee all day.
The defense is playing without Jenkins and Barnett.
    The season is not over.
The Williams brothers just got suspended and the vikings have a very tough schedule to end the year

  • GoPackGo

Packer dan is right , we were 2 games behind the Vikings late in the year in 2003 and we won the division by winning our last 4 games of the year , ironically the vikings play in Arizona this December just like they did in 2003. Nobody thought the Giants would do anything in the playofss last year, but they did.
We were 6-6 in 2003 , then we bleew everyone out in December.
Remember everyone , The Packers are a very tough team in December and the Vikings are bad in December.
