Packers are a joke

This is easily the worst loss in Green Bay Packers’ history. Head coach Mike McCarthy should be fired immediately. I will not attend another game until that “Pittsburgh Pussy” is fired. He has turned the Packers into wimps. It is very simple. So much for the macho shit. The Packers are wimps and will always be wimps under McCarthy. This is my opinion on today’s debacle, talk to you next week after the Packers get pummeled in Jacksonville.

I am done. McCarthy should be given a one-way ticket out of town and it should happen today. He is a quarterback coach and not a head coach. Pure and simple. Ted Thompson needs to clean house and if he doesn’t fire McCarthy and the rest of the staff after this year they are doomed to losing for the foreseeable future. It is what it is. To lose to a bunch of wimps from the south in cold weather in Green Bay is inexcusable. Period.

The Packers are a joke. There has never been a defense more pathetic in 50 years and it is unlikely there will ever be another one this bad. I feel so bad for Aaron Rodgers. He throws for over 3000 yards and 22 TDs in 13 games and has nothing to show for it. Very sad. I know Heckle and Jeckle will get another year, it had better be a playoff year or I am done shelling out big bucks for this team. Small town market or not, win or get out of the league.

A sad state of affairs in Green Bay right now, that is for sure. Thompson made the right call on the QB, but missed horribly on the offensive and defensive line. It will probably cost him his job, and his coaches job. So be it. Matt Millen is available last I checked.

  • dd

I HAVE LOST ALL HOPE FOR THIS TEAM

  • CheesyD

The defense is horrible. 500 yards to the Texans?? No pass rush at all… again. Pathetic. A crippled Matt Schaub disects the defense time and time again. Mass confusion by the linebackers and DB’s on where to line up. The defensive coordinator should be fired before the sun comes up tomorrow.

McCarthy has no clue when to call or not to call a timeout. Four seasons as a headcoach and he still is unable to pick an appropriate time to use the red flag, or when to call a timeout (or not) when the game is on the line. Inexcusable.

Keep Rodgers, Driver, Jennings, and Jordy Nelson. Everyone is expendable, including the head coach.

  • Maxaz1

Wrong again. Rodgers missed two TD passes. He sees a defensive player with no blocker and does not call timeout or get a blocker on him. Can’t close in fourth quarter. His receivers are great, making him look far better then his stats or smarts.

  • CheesyD

You can’t blame Rodgers for this loss. No freakin’ way. No defense at all. And penalties (real and imagined – what the hell refs?!?) killed them all day. Anybody see the slant pass? None last week either… What the hell is that McCarthy?

  • dd

Don’t blame the lost on rodgers he’s doing the best he can with little help he has

  • Mel e Mel

Bill Cowher is available Spend the Money and get him in here. It has been a waste of a season. Unfortunately the fish rots from the head down. Thompson needs to go also.
Scott Frost??? Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, have come into Lambeau and had their way.
The O line is a Joke. The D Line was finished after Jenkins got hurt. The Tennesee Game, At MN ,Todays Game, And the Carolina Game are all sad examples why the SOB from Pittsburghtshould be permantly exiled from the state of Wisconsin.

We get an extra #2 from the Jets this year. We are in the sad spot of rooting for the Jets to get to the Superbowl. Chad Clifton and Tausher are done they have to be replaced ASAP. We need a deep threat at the TE position. Had TT been able to get the deal done on Gonzales we would be in the shape we are in now.

  • CheesyD

Good god, not the Gonzalez thing again… Argh!

  • Oconomowockid

Rodgers is not the problem. He has some issues but he is by far not our biggest problem. What concerns me more is how many positions we need upgrades for. I think this seasons record and the teams state rest on the managment of the Packers.

  • jake

Do you mean you’re done in the same way you were done with the Favre scandle over the summer. haha.

This loss sucks-no lie. I’m friggen torn up over these close losses throughout the year. It’s an all around failure. Our offense can’t produce enough time on the field for our D to get the rest they need. Today’s loss was disgusting. Had we not gotten the turnovers, it would have been more of a blowout than the 24-21 score shows.

The offseason is going to be interesting. I bet Harris will be gone. The key is that we need to stop giving up the big plays. We are giving up too many 3rd down conversions-too many long yardage plays-and too much to the run game.

Why do we not give the ball to Jackson at all. The pass was obviously not working. The drive with 3 incomplete passes consecutively was gross. What a waste of a posession. It’s a cold weather game MM-You’re not in San Fran or N.O. anymore. This is Green Bay and if we can’t run the ball we are not going to win. Straight up.

On the bright side, our new punter did an amazing job. 3 downed within the 20-a solid 49 yarder on his first attempt-since our offense was shit, he had a chance to get a lot of reps today. I’m really pleased with him. After Frost and Ryan, it’s a bit of a relief.

I, for one, will not abandon this team. I said at the beginning of this year, if we finish 8-8 I will be content. I won’t be happy, but I will be content. I feel we can win out this year, and meet that goal. If not, I am scared. I don’t want this to be another trip to the 70′s and 80′s. God I pray it’s not.

GO PACK GO!!! Pack forever-no matter what…

  • PackerBacker

I just finished watching this game and I am appalled by what I just witnessed. The defense just let the Texans marched down field unopposed. What a joke!! Rodgers did the best he could but the D provided so support all day long. Grant runs for a first down at the end only to be called back on a hold penalty which kills the drive for a possible go ahead score. Another disappointment!! This not Packer football!! Mistakes
are being made & no acountablility seems to be in place here. McCarthy has really screwed this up royally and TT better address the problem soon or he will be next.
To go from 13-3 to this is insult to all Packer fans that have supported the storied
team over the years. Sounds like the leadership has disappeared completely after Brett
    left!!

  • http://www.packernet.com/blog/?p=168#respond Scott Moldovan

I agree with you. I’m from Pa., and have been a packer fan since 1963. i just turned 50 so that gives you an idea of how long I’ve been a Packer faithful. The real joke is the the way we the packers got rid of Brett Favre. Defense or not I blame the entire management for this failure. Going from 13 and 3 to probably 6 and 10 is just a plain outrage. We’ll probably get beat by Detroit the game of the season. I’m also tired of the excuse that we are a young team, that only goes in my book so long. Enough of the excuses get rid of the head coach and defensive coachs and get some coachs that won’t to win football games and not worry about stats. I will give them one more year before I change teams, but for know I’m following Brett and the Jets, at least they will play and never quit.

  • Michael Legat

Good riddance, Scott. What a pussy comment.

  • Dan

All hope is lost. Once again coach constipation has the team unprepared.

How on earth can our offense not show up until the second quarter every week?
There is far too much talent on the offensive side of the ball to have scored only 44 points in the first quarter. It’s even worse when you look at our opening drives (10 points all season).

This defense plays strictly for turnovers. They are a sieve and repeatedly gamble on interceptions. Ever since McCarthy came here, our secondary has bitten on pump fakes (thank you Kurt Schottenheimer).

    Worst line of the game…
Total points off turnovers today = 21. Total points that our offense scored without our defense getting a turnover = 0.

Thanks again Coach MM (Mickey Mouse) for letting a southern team come in and embarrass us in Lambeau in the cold. Adding salt to that wound, it was a southern domed team.

    Hey coach,
    M I C – see you later
    K E Y – why, because you are a terrible head coach!!!
    M O U S E – e for error. Hiring MM was a terrible mistake.

  • cdk4205

The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. The game was over when GB wouldn’t let the Texans run out the clock. I left and heard the result on the radio. The only….let me repeat only chance to win without another Houston turnover was to win the coin flip in overtime. The defense is that pathetic… Again, whatever McCarthy said or did to the refs has eliminated any chance for an even playing field…you can call holding on every play if you want and the refs seemed to want only if there was a big gain.

  • iccyfan

This season has been gut-wrenching and I’m in disbelief at the ways we find to lose games. 1st & ten at the 25 after the Driver catch and we hold / get sacked on consecutive plays. It’s a different f’in lineman every week, Colledge in the titan game and Moll today. Even so, there’s no way the Texans can beat our D with 1:49 left and the ball at their 3. Unbelievable! Is there not one player on this team who can step up and make a play when it counts? This team has no heart…

  • erdbob

All the comments above are true, now how do we go about getting rid of MM and TT?? The new Packer president apparently has little imput over what is happening on the field. Good Lord, I wish we still had Harlan. The owner of the Saints made a very wise decision when hiring Sean Payton, he was on his short list with MM. Comments from NO have indicated how smart he was in choosing Payton. TT wouldn’t know who was qualified or not. This statement is easily based on some of the stupid player moves he has made. If he remains, nothing will change for next year, better off to turn in your season tickets to some poor devil who is not bright enough to know the difference.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

I think this is more on MM for the Bob Sanders debacle. MM will buy another year by firing Sanders, but that should be all he gets. He is a quarterback coach, not a head coach.

  • Packfan4Eva

Al, (hang in there…it will be better next year I promise!)
I chose not watch the game today. It was a person choice to do something else instead because I had bad feeling about the outcome and as it turned out I was right….This was the first game I missed since the 4-12 season two years ago. I didnt want to get my hopes up anymore….The letdowns are hard to take each week. I am so fed up with this losing stuff at the end of games….If our defense didn’t fall apart at the end of games…and mainly the last drives of opposing teams…we would be playoff bound….. There should not be any Rodgers talk at all…he is doing great! I hope they lose all their remaining games this year…..not because I hate them…Its because I want to see change….I want to see Teddy makes something happen otherwise I want to see CEO Mark Murphy make something happen if you know what I mean… This team need to snap out of it and realize the problem areas and address them in the off season once and for all……I’m sick of saying it over and over again… So, from this point on….I will root for Favre and the Jets and root against the Cowboys, Pats, Minnesota and the bears….That’s about all I have left to root for….Like I said….its best for us if the packers lose all their three last games…..especially if they lose against the Lions at home on the last game of the year…that should about seal the deal that something has to be done…..I don’t want to go through another season like this again….and there is no need to when you have 30 million dollers sitting in your pocket!!!!
Dan the Packer fan from RI

  • Jack in Columbus

Jeez, guys. This team has come up a few points short in five games this year. We lost to Atlanta by 3, Tenneessee by 3 in OT, to Minnesota by 1, to Carolina by 4 and to Houston today by 3. And how did this happen?

We knew going in to this season that our D-line was thin and our O-Line was unsettled and suspect. Grant was late to camp and gimpy early on. Eventually we lost key people at D-Line, LB and DB. And while ARod has some great talent and has displayed some solid skills, but he is not at the point where he can will us to win (as Favre did many times).

If we had won those five games, we’d be 10-3. We played well at Tenn and almost beat a great team. So, before we throw the baby out with the bathwater, I would respectfully suggest that we all take a deep breath and hope that TT and MM find a way in th eoffseason to add a few good players on the O and D lines, and maybe another solid DB and RB. Then, watch out next year!

    Go Pack, Go! Forever!

    Jack in Columbus
(I attended the Ice Bowl, so I’m not a fair weather Packers fan.)

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

If throwing a crucial interception at a crucial time means firing TT, then it should have happened after the NFC Championship game last year. Or the 300 times prior to that. TT may be to blame, MM is more to blame, AR is not to blame. Love your passion Hank, I know it well.

  • roy jamison

Caroling caroling caroling Christmas time is coming. All I want for Christmas is a new defense, a new defense a new defense…..

  • Johneblood

Jack in Columbus is a wise man. Quit the frickin whining – you’re all starting to sound like Viking fans!

  • http://www.packernet.com/blog/?p=168#respond Scott Moldovan

    Hey, Michael Legat.
The statement made, is a statement that clearly specifies that something is wrong in the front office. I’m not going to get into a comment argument with you over this. The facts are out in black and white whether you agree or not. Defense, Defense, Defense wins football games. I just finished watching the Steelers and Cowboys game and defense won that game not offense.

  • Dan

One more instance of MM totally screwing up in the game.

After the invisible holding penalty, the Packers faced a 2nd and 17 at the Texans 32. The odds were against us getting the first down, so he needed to call smart plays to setup a FG. What happens, we get a 9 yard sack ending all hope of go ahead FG late in the game.

I agree with Al, MM’s been costing us game after game. There’s too much talent on this team and this is a weak division. MM doesn’t have a grasp of this team.

  • AATP

Again, the Favre stuff – how many of you on this board really think the almight Favre would have played 100% to help the management he hated so much win out this year? I know when I was disgruntled with my employer, the last thing I wanted to see them do was continue to flourish. I believe that’s why Favre left, so he wouldn’t let down the players on the team by playing less than stellar football all year for a management he couldn’t stand. So he went somewhere he could care less about so he could play football. Why do you think he wanted to go play for Minnesota so damn bad? There is NO way we would be in a better position with the disgruntled version of Brett Favre playing QB on this team.

No, TT is not trailing Ray Rhodes – in his first 16 games he was actually behind Ray Rhodes (i.e. 4-12). The rest is horseshit – you can only compare the first 16 games cause that’s all that Ray got was 16 games and then he was gone… the rest, might I say, is statistical crap.

  • Mark Troy

Can’t blame Rogers???? WHAT? Did we watch the same game? He is to blame for this one too. Sure the defense sucks but Rogers missed open receivers early on and made questionable decisions all game. You can blame McCarthy’s play calling, but Farve got to the line and knew to change the play to one that worked. Great chemistry with the offense.
I like Rogers, but he’s a rookie and sometimes plays like it. Did you expect a 13-3 season with a first year quarterback? How many times has that happened.

Someone keeps clammoring that 5 losses were 4 points or less. Well the same thing happened the 4-12 season too.

  • Pete H

Whoever is trying to ease this debacle by yapping about how close they are is crazy!! That is exactly why this team is a pile of SH!@….Every single F@#$ing week they nut up on a final drive to put a game away, promptly followed by their defense not even bothering…..every F@#ing week! It has happened 6 times…different player each time screws it up…..you have to try to be that spineless. God they suck

Section 130 is going to play Othello on December 28th if you care to join Al…

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

    Hank – 549 yards!

  • AATP

Al and Dan, you also have to remember that there are audibles called based on alignment, so to blame the play calling on MM could be premature. How do we know there wasn’t an audible called? There are too many moving parts to start calling MM the main reason, this whole team is riddled with injuries and we’re playing young guys that have less discipline for gap control and so forth. Blame who you like, if it makes you feel better, but in the end the problems are team wide. Sometimes the scheme works and sometimes it doesn’t work. I personally don’t think all the players have bought into the schemes yet and freelance a little bit creating space for big plays. Take those away and the close games go away.

  • AATP

Wow Pete H, get pissed much? You may need some spa time this week to work out today’s loss tension…

  • NashvillePackerBacker2

Get over Favre. You’re a Packer fan or a Favre Fan. If you are a Favre Fan, go root for the Jets. Ted Thompson has to go. He can’t draft worth a darn. Defense wins Championships (look at the Steeler – who has a mediocre quarterback, but a running game and a great defense) and he doesn’t know defensive talent. Harrell ?? Who is the cornerback he drafted this year ?? Does anyone know?? We got rid of Corey Williams. He’s been hurt most of the season in Cleveland, but he is stil better than anyone we have on the defensive line (except Kampman). This cheapo philosphy TT believes in doesn’t work. Don’t trade down, get a real first round defensive draft pick and pay for the people who make you better. And please get rid of Harris… We’ll be O.K. and McCarthy is not as bad as everyone said… We could have Sherman back.

  • Michael Legat

Hank = Jon in disguise. Guaranteed.

  • CheesyD

Hank – Jon? Could very well be. Neither of them can get Favre out of their heads. As if QB is the problem with the Pack this year. It’d be funny if not so sad.

QB is the least of the problems facing the Green Bay Packers.

  • CheesyD

By the way Hank… Favre threw for 137 yards today… one INT, zero TDs. And his Jets lost to the 49′ers. Gonna blame that on TT?

  • NashvillePackerBacker2

We need to get Jim Leonard back in Wisconsin

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Problem w/the Pack is every week it’s someone different. The D finally showed up and the special teams failed the last couple weeks. Now, visa-versa. Offense, just kinda offensive. But, hey, you’ve all been talking about the four times the punter punts and the ten snaps Harrell plays the last couple weeks………….. have been such a big thing. Well now you have a punter and Harrell wasn’t the difference in the lose once again. What now?? If we can get Cowhler…………….. You pony up the money and get Cowhler. That could be equal to Reggie…… He’s proven and Sanders and Shotty Baby aren’t. MM neither, time for him to start breast feeding. Maybe MM can make a decent OC. Looking at how some part falls apart each week, that puts it on the head coach. Of course, things are never as bad as they look and never as good as they look. Execution makes play calling look better and better schemes make players look better.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Hank, I think they almost annointed the Jets as SB favorites just a couple weeks ago. Such is life in the NFL.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Did anyone notice the three mis-tackles by Woodson in the first quarter or so…. A nother big reason the Pack isn’t doing so well………. poor tackling.

  • Devil’s Advocate…

Like I’ve stated from the beginning of the year, I think you gotta give a guy a chance to learn from the last year. I think you give MM another year while he breast feeds. Buuuuuttttt, if Cowhler wants to coach again, that’s toooooo goooood to pass up, you’ve gotta make the move and push hard. He fits the Packers. Even Belicheat was a piece of shit once……. I’m still trying to get the sight of Kuhn (30) chasing his guy out of the hole while Turk ran through it on a punt that wasn’t going to happen. (coaching’s crap) But for all of you who like to keep track, Turk was with the Pack years ago, and yes, the bastards let him go…………… Whose fault is that????

  • RayL

Hank – Excellent post on TT! You see him for what he is.

  • Some Guy surely not named Hank or Jon

    Yeah, you tell ‘em!

  • Lew

What is with this BS on Rodgers…”he does what he can with what he has”, “he is not the problem”, blah, blah, blah. This baffles me. Is QB the weakest position on the team? No. Is A-Rod doing well for a 1st year QB? Sure. But let’s be honest…what has he shown us? He stands in the posket too long, making it inevitable that he will get hurt. He is afraid to take a chance. His accuracy is decent at best. He has done nothing to separate himself from average.

If this season was going to go down this way, at least we could have had the greatest packer in the last 40 years playing for us.

  • Dan

AATP, the reason I put this on MM is that the team is failing every week. He’s the head coach with some talented players (Rodgers, Grant, Jennings, Driver, Kampman, Harris, Woodson, Crosby). If we had the talent of the late 70′s, it would be one thing, but this team has talent. The head coach is responsible for getting the most out of his players and he’s not doing it.

Rodgers is a first year starter, so it’s very unlikely he’s calling many audibles. There was one play where it was obvious Rodgers was calling an audible and it worked. Most of the time, he’s going with what the coaches call.

MM is responsible for how his team comes out of the gate.
MM is responsible for his Packers team struggling in cold weather.
MM is responsible for keeping Frosty around for 12 weeks.
MM is the head coach keeping Sanders and Schottenheimer around.

  • ilovefavrebut….

    THE TRUTH ABOUT BRET

Favre won one Super Bowl., lost one Super Bowl with great Packer teams that included a defensive leader like Reggie White. He has passed for many yards and has many 4th quarter comebacks in regular season games. But when it really depended on him to win the big game, he would never come through. Who can forget 2004 against Philadelphia and that infamous interception ? or last year’s pick against the Giants ? Favre is the biggest tease Packer fans has ever had. When we needed a big play, when it really counted in the playoffs, Favre was good for an interception. He was not a cold weather quarterback like everyone thinks. There was no way that the Packers would have ever gone to the Super Bowl again with Favre. And the Jets will find this out too … But he will make the playoffs so he can throw one of those spirit crushing INT. Favre is a great quarterback, and a Hall of Famer, but it is time for the Packers to move on…

  • GoPackGo

Yep , the frozen tundra Packers do not like the cold under McCarthy with cold weather losses to the Bears and 3 at home to the Giants, Panthers , and Texans in the last 11 months.

Look , the Packer defense has been playing without Jenkins and Barnett. Jenkins is a player who is rock solid on the end and provides pass rush. With him out for the year , it made no sense to get rid of KGB.
I lived through the 1970s , please do not compare the team now to then, The 1970s Packers were not talented at all , the Packer team is talented.
Hmmm , it has been said we need a D tackle who can push the pocket , that is exactly what Corey Williams was.

We will beat the Bears , the Bears have no pass rush and they have no offense to keep up with ours.

  • GoPackGo

Defensively this is not the same team from last year without Jenkins , Barnett , KGB , and Williams. Two guy injured , but Williams and KGB are gone , that is alot of talented players not on the field for the defense right now and do not forget Bigby has not been healty all year.
Johnny Jolly has been the biggest disappointment , I thought he would make plays in the running game and disrupt the pocket , I just knew that his off the field problems would hurt him on the field this year.

  • CheesyD

Ah, so when the Favre-led Packers lost, it was everybody elses fault. But now, it’s the QB’s fault. Got it.

He looked great in that Philly playoff game, didn’t he? And the Giants game last year… How did those end again? Oh yeah, with the usual Favre duck in the opposing teams hands and the Packers heading for the golf course in their Wrangler jeans.

  • Dan

CheesyD, let me understand. You’re blaming Brett for the running game having less than 30 yards rushing? Maybe Brett was to blame for Harris getting beat by Burress (and the coaches never adjusting).

Yes, Brett through a bad pick at the end. However, he had no ground game support in that game.

Plenty of blame to go around for that loss, but don’t pin it all on a QB who had no support from the ground game. Giants time of possession was something like 40 minutes to the Packers 20 minutes. Defense couldn’t get a stop. Sound familiar to this year’s 5-8 team that gets beat more often than a drum?

  • jake c

everybody is calling for TT’s head now…did you guys really expect a huge season? last year there were plenty of games where it could have went either way and we got lucky. this year we’re not getting those breaks anymore. on top of that we have a new quarterback in place. i think everyone needs to take a step back and relax. and believe me, i’m glad i didn’t post anything on here yesterday because i was fuming.

on top of everything else, i was pretty upset yesterday that after such a monster game against the panthers, brandon jackson was delegated to his third down back role once again. i know grant has the big contract, but if a guy performs he should get the chance to continue to do so.

the other thing on the top of my list is al harris. he opened his mouth a little while back about how he thinks this is his last year in green bay. one can only hope. he’s lost it, and what’s worse, he doesn’t seem to get it. he’s cocky, brash, and can’t cover like he used to. i was just disgusted on the touchdown he gave up when he tried to argue he was pushed off. suck it up and admit you blew coverage you primadonna. on a team thompson claims is stacked with character, he’s the black sheep at this point.

    what do you guys think?
