Packers-Jags Game blog

12:13 PM: Well, the same old Green Bay Packers’ defense showed up today. I makeshift Jags offense goes 73 yards with little or no resistance for a 7-0 lead. Aaron, can you put up 60 today please, it’s our only hope.

12:26 PM: Like the whole season, the Packers couldn’t finish the deal on their opening drive and had to settle for a field goal. Questionable play calling again in the red zone. 7-3 Jags. Can’t afford to lose four points per drive, that is for sure.

12:34 PM: End of one and offering absolutely no resistance to a third-string Jags offense. It might be the saddest thing I have ever witnessed as a Packers’ fan. All I want for Christmas is ONE three-and-out.

12:56 PM: Rodgers overcomes a terrible quarterback draw call and hits Jennings for a short TD. 10-7 Packers. Capped a 59-yard drive after a Jags missed field goal. Thinks are looking up. I’ll be happy with 17-17 at the half.

1:25 PM: Football Follies has hit the Packers offense. After a timeout and a huddle the Packers still didn’t know where to line up. Rodgers should have taken a timeout. What a joke. Instead of 17-7 it is 13-7 and the Jags might still have the lead at halftime.

1:54 PM: Playing Charles Woodson at safety is becoming a bigger mistake each game. With Harris and Woodson on the corners today the Jags would not have a completion to a receiver I bet. Tramon Williams is not ready for every day play, that is clear. Dennis Northcutt is lighting up Williams today. We did stop them, however, so all is not lost. A TD drive here and this game might be over.

2:25 PM: Well, thanks to Fox TV or whoever, I haven’t seen a play in 10 minutes. But going for it on fourth down was the worst decision by head coach Mike McCarthy this year. Your defense is finally playing a little better, so pin them back. This is why the Packers are 5-8.

2:33PM: McCarthy must be a complete idiot. Gave the Jags the lead on a silver platter. I knew we would find a way to lost this game and we apparently did. Every week it is something. This time McCarthy goes with the Kuhn run that everybody and their uncle knew was coming, just like against Carolina two weeks ago. Miss it and game over and that is the best call you got? Ridiculous. Jags lead 14-13 and the rout is probably on.

2:50 PM: Boy, we give up the lead quick. It is all Aaron Rodgers’ fault I guess. If only he could play both ways. This might be the biggest joke of the season. Bob Sanders should not be allowed on the plane home.

2:55 PM: Let the horror begin. It is going to be a long eight months. Simply amazing. And the game goes back to the call by McCarthy to goe for it on fourth down at the Jags 44. McCarthy then made a horrible play call and the Packers lose because of it. Thanks a lot Mike. This is by far the worst defense by the Packers since 1983. It is horrible and no offense could overcome it. See you later in the week. I need a few days to digest this latest meltdown.

I will talk about anything you want to, but I have the right to respond to your ASSenine statements. If TT is such a great surveyer of talent then why are we 5-9? Why have we lost more games than won? Why are we blabbing about the lack of depth when that is what he was supposed to have been doing this whole time. I amtired of guys who could be good…thats it. I’m not saying every player has to produce off the bat, but 1 would be nice. As for you, read all of my posts before you say I talk the same shit…I talk the same shit to you because you have had only one constant drab, boring, pile of shit for a post evey single time. I have argued many positives as well as negatives, but this year at 5-9 there aren’t many positives….DUDE grow the fuck up or shut the fuck up..either way I don’t care

  • jeffn

They don’t have depth on the defensive line and that’s their problem. TT only drafted there twice. Jolly and Herril. Herril as we all know is a bust. There is decent depth at every other position.

Who needs to grow up here?

  • Roy Jamison

    [Comment From roy]
How did Justin Harrell get drafted given his multiple injury record in college?
1:34 Rob Demovsky: Good question, Roy. I heard him say at some point this season that he hasn’t been healthy since high school. You would have thought that would have raised red flags.

I know I’m beating a dead dog, but I can’t let this one go. It’s sooooo damned bad. I can’t believe anyone…anyone in their right mind…would have made that pick. Anyone involved with that pick should be escorted by Mark Murphy out the exit sign.

  • jeffn

We all agree it was a terrible pick. Nobody is defending TT on that one not even me. He isn’t perfect.

My point is you still have to give him credit for the good picks he did make, which I have listed above and won’t list them anymore. He needs to draft D-line high this year instead of 6th round. 4th round I think is the highest TT ever spent on a d-line except for Herril. So my mistake he drafted 4 d-line but all were 6, 6, 4, 1

  • iccyfan

jeffn Says: “He has 29 receptions for 431 yds and ranks 25th in the league for receptions for tight ends. He sucks and you trying to talk up a guy like David Martin is just really dumb.”

You contributions of today would evidence that you appear to lack the ability to think at any level past surface! The discussion is not about David Martin per se, but rather about Ted’s preference for younger cheaper players and the “fine line” that poses when evaluating talent and making final cuts to your roster. I’m a TT supporter by and large, but think he needs to tweak his formula a tad. This “fine young depth” you’ve referenced has proven “not ready for prime time” and the razor thin margin of defeat has been promulgated by one or two key plays every game! I’d submit that maybe a veteran receiving TE would have executed one of these “fade patterns” that is still too complicated for Jermichael Finley. I still believe the core of our team is strong but Ted’s gotten a little too cute with the draft and roster machinations; I hope he can learn from the mistakes he’s made this season. JMHO

Once again, and you wonder why I post the same crap. They have depth. they have a good amount of role players. They need some ass kickers. If he goes out and gets Haynesworth, I will completely change my tune about him. Haynesworth can completely change an entire defense. It would put Jolly and Cole back to a rotation with Pickett and fat lump of poo. Haynesworth would also ease some pressure off of the linebackers. They also need someone other than Kampman to step up a pass rush. I also still think, and I know this is where we disagree hardest, that they need an earth mover, ass kickin offensive lineman. I know you like Sitton and Colledge’s potential, I am just tired of waiting on potential guys, while in the meantime our previously solid tackles are aging like someone just opened up the Ark in front of them.

This article sums up my thoughts on this debacle: http://www.packerchatters.com/op-ed/view.php?id=5661

Here’s a thought for everyone to chew on…
Fact – TT and MM asked Favre to make a decision on whether or not he should retire in March to give them adequate needs for the team before the ’08 season, via free agency and the draft, if he was going to retire – so he wouldn’t handcuff the franchise. So Favre gave them their precious answer, that they just had to have so that they could be ready to have a winning season as they followed up their trip to the NFC Championship Game and defend their NFC North title, without Favre, if that was going to be the case. So what did TT do? Nothing! …but sign Brandon Chillar and trade away Corey Williams and trade down in the draft for another receiver, a back-up QB and a corner.

The entire reason we are in the position we are in, is because TT needed that answer in March and since March he has completely failed at making this team better…

    So one must ask:

    1. Did TT really think all this team needed was Brandon Chillar, in order to compete w/out Favre?

    2. Knowing Favre was retiring, were Jordy Nelson, Brohn and Lee the right first 3 picks from TT to best prepare this team to survive the transition between Favre and Rodgers? Especially, when TEs like Dustin Keller and John Carlson were on the board and RBs like Matt Forte and Ray Rice (whatever happened to BPA, a TT principle, he supposedly swears by), were on the board, both at the end of round 1 and beginning of round 2. Or how about DEs like Calais Campbell and Phillip Merling or DT like Kentwan Balmer, knowing you just traded away Corey Williams and Harrell was still coming off an injury and KGB, was getting up in years (TT has often stated you can’t have enough big men…so you draft them early and often).

    3. If 1 and 2 are true… he needed to know from Favre, so he could make these moves to put the Packers in a position to succeed, then he isn’t a very good GM, as it relates to filling team needs, even armed with Favre’s decision.

    4. The only move he couldn’t have made without knowing Favre’s decision was Brohm, yet, even that doesn’t hold water, because TT could have still drafted Brohm as the #3 QB.

    5. So I contend that TT DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING DIFFERENTLY, AS GM, IN LIGHT OF FAVRE’S DECISION TO RETIRE, which is what he said he was going to do and why it was so important that he knew Favre’s future in March, as opposed to April or May.

    6. Thompson lied. He didn’t need to know. He just pressured Favre out the door, so he could move forward with his agenda to win with his guys only.

    7. TT should be fired for his inability to prepare this team to succeed without BF.

One thing I agree with you on Pete is at this point we can just agree to disagree, I’m never going to convince you that anything positive is going on right now so you win I loose. I’m not going to try to convince you anymore

But for the record, it would be nice to see some more free agents that make the huge impact. I just don’t see who that would of been that wanted to come here. As I said I’m a fan of signing Hanyneworth but damn near every other one of the 31 teams is going to want to sign that guy so don’t be surprised when it doesn’t happen.

One more last thing, when the Pack wins a superbowl over the next several years… I’m going to be on here riding some people’s ass freakin big time!!!

  • Pete H

I’ll be waiting and hoping you are right. Everyone may want Haynesworth, but hardly anyone can afford him. On a side note, I think it is awesome that one of the Williams boys is now hurt. Not that I want anyone to get hurt, but to have them try to use the system like that, and now they are going to get screwed this year and next when they do serve their suspensions….losers

  • jeffn

I’m so sick of the Williams Wall. The only thing that would be better if they were both hurt this upcoming week. I don’t hope for people to get either but would agree if you work the system like that then that is what you deserve. Damn I hate the Vikes.

  • Pete H

Hey look, we agree on something

  • jeffn

    Wow now that’s a first :-)

I bet Al sits back a get’s his Jolly’s off of watching us argue.

  • Roy Jamison

For some holiday fun, you owe it to yourself…especially if you loved those Lombardi years… to go to youtube and type in Bart Starr…scroll down to the Longest Yard and watch Bart beat those stinkin’ Cowboys. I can’t wait for another moment like that one!

  • paul

Did ya’ll hear? Brett Favre made the probowl again this year, with a mediocre team that he had no training camp with, in a new system, and may be headed towards the playoffs. Suck it up kool aid drinkers.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

If seven Pro Bowlers marks a mediocre team, I’d like to know what color the sky is in your world. That might have been the most ridiculous statement made on this blog to date, including myself. Seven Pro Bowlers! How many makes a good team in your mind, Paul? Eight or more? Missed it by that much?

  • jeffn

Paul, do you think we all live in a bubble and didn’t hear that by now?

    Whatever Paul… Whatever

  • Oconomowockid

    Al,
Everyone knows that TT sent Brett to the team the team that was the least threatening and outside of our division. Most pundits had the Jets at an 8-8 season. Most thought they had very little chance to make the playoffs. They were considered a mediocre team at the beginning of the season. They became a much better team with Favre having his ups and downs. His leadership has helped them considerably.

The Packers on the other hand were a 13 -3 the year before and many predicted would win the division. They have had a year that was terrible!! Aaron Rodgers is a above average first year quarterback. MM and TT have been exposed as having glaring weaknesses. The fact that both could be happy with the level of talent in their assistant coaches appears to have been a disaster. The poor judgement in player evaluation has been equally flawed and maybe the largest concern.

The color in my sky is blue. What color is yours?

  • Larry

Paul, Did ya’ll hear Favre got more votes, somehow, but the sports talk show hosts are screaming that he didn’t deserve it. I, myself, wonder how that happened when all I hear on the tube is that the kid from Atlanta, especially, and others deserved it more.
