There is no need to fear the Lions

For those of you who think the Packers will lose today, I’m here to say you are wrong. The Packers couldn’t lose this game if they tried, and at times this year it appeared they were trying to lose. Not today though. The Lions are the worst team in NFL history. They only have one good player in Calvin Johnson but nobody to get him the ball. They are the worst defense in the NFL and their offense is 30th. Only Cleveland and Cincinnati are worse.

The Packers available players are fairly healthy and I see the Packers winning 34-14. It will be cold and windy at Lambeau today, the last place the Lions want to be. 0-16 it soon shall be. Incredible.

    I’m glade we won

    Oh yeah, forgot to add…

  • cali cheeez

OOOHHH NOOO BF just throws a INT for a TD. Oh well it’s been a up and down season. That’s the NFL, I”m really going to miss watching the games with my Packer family at our local sports bar. Win or lose it was always a great time. Best fans in the WORLD! All we are missing is two pieces, DT & DE and we’re back in the playoffs, that’s right NFC North BITCHES we’ll be back.
Go eagles(and I hate them too) keep the cowgirls out of the playoffs. Freakin’ luckyass vi-queens, that’s allright the whole franchise is one big premature ejaculation anyways. One and done.
Until next year fellow Packer Fans GO PACK GO!!! Have a HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR

  • AATP

We’ll be back in 2009 for sure… Al, I hope we see you online with this forum as well… This has been a rough ride for sure, but we have a true QB and a good offense, just a couple of needs to shore up the lines and we’re kickin’ ass and taking names. I see some age being released in the names of Clifton, Taucher, possibly Driver (hope not, but it is a business of young players) and some help on the D-Line. I also look to the triplets to add some key help in the draft and FA. Also, I expect we’ll see a DC change as well, color me silly, but I think they’ll change the DL but they’ll start with the DC to shore that unit up.

GO PACK and we’ll see how the 2009 offseason takes shape – keep your eyes open and we’ll see everyone next Spring… Playoffs or bust in 2009.

  • CheesyD

Favre and the Jets are out. Horrible last half of the season for Favre. Packers will get a 3rd rounder for him. Now the Jets get to play the “will he retire or won’t he” game all off season…

  • AATP

Check out this detailed post on another forum that I like to follow – this, of course, with the expectation that the NYJ would have gotten into the playoffs…

We demolish the Lions to make them go 0-16 and we pick number 8 in the 2009 NFL Draft.

-We recieve a second round pick from the New York Jets…
-We recive a sixth round pick from the saints…

    Coaching Changes:
1.) Mike Mcarthy will fire Bob Sanders and hire Rob Ryan as the Defenive Coordinator from the Oakland Raiders

    Green Bay’s Free Agents
1.) Place a secound round tender on Atari Bigby and wait for someone to possibly bite on him.
2.) Will give Mark Tausher an extension because he is still a very good tackle and will help solidfy this young offensive line (5 years)
3.)We will let Ruvell Martin leave and find a replacement in the draft
    4.)Let go of John Kuhn.
5.)Will re-sign Michael Montgomery for depth on our defensive line (2 years)
6.)Re-sign Colin Cole for depth (2 years)
    7.)Let go of Jarret Bush!
8.)Re-sign Jason Hunter for special teams (2 years)
9.) Sign and trade Tory Humphrey
10.) Let go of Shaun Bodiford

*** Chad Clifton will not retire or be released.

    Extensions
1.)Greg Jennings needs to get locked up and he deserves it. I would say about 5 to 6 years.
2.)Nick Collins will get a 5 year contract for his Pro Bowl season.
3.)Darren Colledge will also recieve a 5 year contract to become an anchor on this offensive line.

Free Agents to bring in- Ted Thompson has the money and he will see the players that he has the oppurtunity to bring in and create a Super Bowl Team
1.) We will bring in Julius Peppers to become a premier defensive playmaker for 6 years.
2.)**Nnamdi Asomugha can’t be franchised tagged again and he will rejoin Charles Woodson to become the best cornerback tandem in the league with a contract of 6 years.
3.) We will sign Ryan Simms because he has revamped his career in Tampa Bay and will be anothe body on the defensive line for a contract of 4 years.
4.)We will go out and get Matt Gioridano from the colts to be a special teams captain and reserve safety for 4 years

    Trades
1.)We will trade our 4th and and Tory Humphrey to the Chiefs for Tony Gonzalez.
2.)We will trade Cullen Jenkins to the Panthers for a 3rd and 6th round picks
3.)We will trade Al Harris because of age to the Texans for a 4th round pick

    2009 NFL Draft
1st Round (8th Pick Overall): James Laurinaitis – Linebacker – Ohio St.
    - He will fall to number eight and they will snatch him because he so much talent and would fit out scheme.
    2nd Round A: Alex Mack – Center – California
    - He will come in and compete with the interior lineman for a spot and will play very well.
    2nd Round B: B.J. Raji – Defensive Tackle – Boston College
    - We will have amazing depth and talent on the defensive line and ii will be one of our strengths again
3rd Round: Kam Chancellor – Safety – Virginia Tech
    - He has great size and talent. Has the same type of potential as Rouse and will come in compete with a lot of intensity.
4th Round: Darius Butler – Cornerback – Connecticut
-Will come in and play in dime packages and return kicks with Blackmon
5th Round: Brock Bolen – Fullback – Lousville
    - Drafted to be the second fullback to replace Kuhn.
    6th Round A: Zach Follett – Linebacker – California
    - Played stout at Cal and will bring some more depth at Linebacker
6th Round B: Ian Johnson – Running Back – Boise State
    - He made so many great and historic plays at Boise State and will come in and compete for third down bavk responsibilities and special teams
6th Round C: Jemarko Simmons – Wide Reciever – Western Michigan
    - Will be just like all the othe recievers the packers draft every year but will have a shot to replace Martin

  • iccyfan

Interesting read AATP, but I’m not really enamored of the “draft” portion. I watched Cal’s bowl game last night; liked Alex Mack but noticed Zach Follet was a “rush linebacker”. He reminded me of Brady Popinga; enough said…

I’ve always thought Laurinaitis was “over-rated”, much like another OSU LB we presently have. I don’t see him at #8 overall. Ian Johnson is a cool story, but he didn’t even start full-time at BSU this season.

I do love speculating on the draft; April is way too far away!

  • Matt Hayton

whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!! We didn’t lose tot eh god-aweful lions, all is not lost in packerland!

That would’ve just been embarassing! Mmmmmm Draft, need to ponder before I comment. I think we’ll draft 8 or 9 right, coin flip with the 49ers correct?

Hope they fire Sanders and Stock, better yet, just bring in Cowher, but that won’t happen.

  • Matt Hayton

AATP – (I know it was post from another blog) And I was accused of driving the school bus like a locomotive…not a chance in hell that half of those moves get done w/TT running the ship.

I see one firing of Bob Sanders and promoting Winston Moss to DC.
I see one key free agent signing.
Resigning a bunch of our own guys…Jennings, College, maybe even extending Kampman again, etc.
Add a blue chipper in the draft at #9, because Lord knows we don’t win anything close, especially coin flips, it’ll probably bounce off of Singletary’s dome this time instead of Urlachers.
Maybe a draft day trade of a player or for a player…

    Let the good times roll!!!

  • Larry

Now you know why BF was no longer welcome in Packerland. Typical of the lack of good judgement when it really counted……..! I’ve heard that “just trying to make something happen” crap for too many years, its still an ego driven I can do anything attitude.

  • Mel e Mel

Defensive Coordinators I would take right now. #1 Wade Phillips, #2Mike Nolan #3 Dick Jauron. The next thing that needs to happen is a switch to the 3-4 Defense OLBs Could be Poppinga,Kampman, Thompson, and Hunter. Jenkins & Montgomery at DEs Pickett at NT. ILBs Hawk & Barnett. The Secondary can Stay the same. Our problems vs TEs and lack of Pass Rush will be alleviated. This will allow us to keep fewer Defensive lineman. Kampman doesnt provide much power against the run see Dallas, Carolina and Houston games. He may have to be traded if the Pack goes to a 3-4

  • RayL

Pathetic performance for BF. Good win for the Pack. Still think TT & MM should go….Let’s all hope the train leaves the station on black monday with them aboard. Doubt it will happen this year, but they better make some serious moves on the D-Line, O-Line, TE, and FB.

  • Matt Hayton

Yep. I have to agree, me chief defender of Lord Favre…he has just looked like an old man out there for the last month or so…

I kinda think everyone involved in the situation got what they deserved…packers had a pathetic season, being humbled in every close game that they played in. And Favre was humbled today, losing to the guy he replaced, if that isn’t the ultimate humilation, then I don’t know what is.

Poetic justice was served in my opinion. I still say it’s not what was done but how it was handled that was the error on both sides and the football gods must have been watching…Because the egos couldn’t come together in June, July or August to work this thing out…everyone was served a little humble pie in September through December. TT, MM and Rodgers were not the answer this year in Green Bay and Favre wasn’t the answer in New York…they were both better together than they were apart and I think both sides found out that they benefited from each other and needed each other to be successful last year.

And this year, being a season of transition for both, neither experienced success without the other. And that is no knock on AR, I think the kid is gonna do fine. I’m just saying both sides missed each other this year, but nonetheless the transition from Favre to AR was inevitable, I just wish both sides had handled the situation better.

  • CheesyD

I don’t think the Packers missed Favre. Not at all. A-Rod had a better season. By far. Injuries, lack of special teams play, and a porous defense cost the Packers this season.

  • Pete H

I have been a big advocate of firing Sanders, but ina way, wouldn’t it just be passing the buck on TT’s part? Sanders did a horrible job of adjusting to what he had to work with, but isn’t what he had the overriding problem? The scheme he uses worked magnificently last year, and even as the second half of the season of two years ago. Now we have an offense thatseems to turn the ball over less than with Brett, it should work great. TT depleted his line, while screaming that D line depth was one of the greatest assets a team can have in his justification of drafting Justin Hairball. I’m not saying that Sanders shouldn’t neccessarily go…like I said you have to able to change based on what you have, but I don’t want to see TT pass the responsibility for this season on to someone as a scapegoat.

  • http://www.scotrstone.com Scot

I really can’t see how Sanders, Stock, Campen, Hairston and Nunn will still have jobs after this. Mike McCarthy is going to lose most of his supporters if at least Stock and Sanders don’t go. Brett Favre looked OLD today. 3 int’s is way too much for a qb that is supposed to be elite and still at the top of his game. He keeps making the same stupid mistakes down the stretch when it really matters most. I really am proud of Aaron Rodgers this year. He had over 4000 yards passing, a great qb rating, kept his interceptions down (which Favre led the league in) and remained humble throughout the whole Favre debacle. What a great future leader.

  • paul

    puss,
Other that Jon, name one Rodgers hater. Also, many of you act like we actually beat a good team yesterday. We had a tough time with the worst non-expansion team in history. Some major changes need to happen and soon. Two coaches already fired on black Monday. I am hoping for some more and soon.

  • Bob

Favre is old, He started off good because He was motivated by all the crap that happened with the Packers, once that wore off He struggled the rest of the way. You can only use motivation for so long, skills and talent have to keep you going, Favre seemed not to have his normal skills anymore, Also what happened to T.T saying a couple years ago that this team was Defense first Favre and offense was a far second, well our problem is “DEFENSE” AATP had a good point with our offense stats, 2 1000 yard recievers, 1000 yard rusher and Rogers doing almost 4000 yards passing. I im and always wil;l be a Favre fan, but Rogers had a great season and if T.T will fix some issues on our lines we have a bright future with Rogers leading the way, Come on T.T DO SOMETHING!!!

  • Pack4life

Bob Sanders didnt put the season in the hands of John Kuhn. It is not Bob Sanders Job to develop a TE. Bob Sanders did not fall short in the Red Zone when it mattered this year. Bob Sanders didnt run Tony Moll out to protect Aaron Rodgers. IN the NFC North their are 4 pro bowl Defensive Lineman (not including Kampman) That means in eight games or half the season one of the best lineman are on the other side. To put all the blame on Sanders is short sighted. Of course Sanders needs to go but last I check there is something called a HEAD coach

  • http://Orlando Mark

I’m surprised #4 lasted the whole year on a bad team with a rebuilt O-line. Of course he did us a favor by getting us a 3rd round pick for nothing and another favor by exposing our team as being too young and not having developed a real running game. As far as putting more pressure on #12, it would have been there anyway. At least #12 wasn’t competing against a ghost. Also I thought the NY fans would have booed #4 alot more than they did, maybe they’re not as tough as everyone thinks. Or maybe they appreciate that they got as much out of him as he had left to give.

  • Larry

Just wondering what frame of mind Grant is in today. Thats a ton of money left on the table for another 35 or so yds for a season. Could we pay for that in the long run?

  • Roy Jamison

If anyone wanted to see the difference between a pretty good team like the Dolphins and the Packers, they saw it Sunday. Defensive tenacity and offensive innovation.

  • TRIP

This Favre thing is quite dumb. Favre made some horrible throws but overall, imagine if he had an entire off-season to prepare and learn that offense. I think he would be way more comfortable and perform better. But over all, the Jets are +5 games while we are -7. We aren’t the guys moving in the right direction. I think he should stay for another season.

I say it all the time, we need help. This season was a failure. 13-3 to 6-10. It doesn’t get much worst. Bill Cowher for 2009!

  • Roy Jamison

    Mark Murphy, paging Mark Murphy.

  • JeffN

Things I’m thinking about going into the offseason:

    1) If any big moves are made by TT it will be on the D-Line. There maybe be some other minor moves but if any big ones happen it will be D-Line related.

    2) The only verteran the Pack would think of trading would be Al Harris and it would have to be for a 2nd or 3rd rounder or they won’t do it. TT will absolutly not even think about trading Driver or any of their other veterans.

    3) I wonder if Favre will retire this offseason? or if he will retire an then unretire? or if the Jets will want him back? or what the Favre drama will look like this off season? Is unretire even a word?

    4) I’m just glad they came out of yesterday with a win :-)

  • JeffN

Trip, the Jets defense got much better this year and that’s why they had such a good season. Not saying Favre had a terrible season, he had a good season, but I think the Packers record getting worse was mostly defense related with some offensive line problems. The Jet’s got much better than last year because of their defense. There really isn’t much of a difference between Pennington and Favre, except Favre sells more jerseys and tickets and brings a ton of that part of the market with him because he is so popular.

  • TRIP

Duly noted. But you did not negate anything I said. You commented on things I do not say. They are, we aren’t. If anything, Favre’s better off coming back to the Jets with a solid D than stick around here for 2 years. And our season was very much so a failure.

  • iccyfan

Trip – Owner Woody Johnson was so happy with the direction the Jets are moving (after spending $100 M last offseason) that he fired Mangenius immediately following the final game! You can’t send a much stronger statement than that!

  • http://Orlando Mark

iccy I’m personally glad #4 went to another team. Like Pennington I think a fresh start actually gave him a spark, but his age is really starting to show. He would have been a great backup QB but at $12 mil that isn’t going to happen. We got a third rounder and he helped knock the Pats out and had a last hurrah. Like the Jets fan said(who also wanted to get rid of Mangini), what’s not to like. BTW I think our needs are so obvious and few that TT and MM are good enough to right the ship and give us a winner next year. Two good D-linemen and a special teams ace. Anything beyond that is gravy.

  • Michael Legat

    TRIP Says:

“This Favre thing is quite dumb. Favre made some horrible throws but overall, imagine if he had an entire off-season to prepare and learn that offense. I think he would be way more comfortable and perform better.”

    Give. Me. A. Break.

Chad Pennington had the same amount of time to prepare and learn the offense for the Dolphins and took them from 1-15 to 10-6 with the second highest QB rating, fewest turnovers in the NFL and the cherry on top of going back to the Meadowlands and beating old greybeard for the division title.

Stop making excuses for Favre. He should have stayed retired.

  • http://Orlando Mark

Michael L I don’t see why #4 should have retired. Elway wasn’t any better at the end but the Broncos were a great running team. I’m sure if he had gone to the Vikes They’d be SB favorites. The Jets have a few good players but weren’t a good team. Everything worked out OK, #4 broke down at the end and got exposed. TT and MM were exposed as not being such great geniusses, Pennington got his revenge on his doubters(including me). It was all great theater. Now is the time to see if TT learned something and shows he’s a better GM than PR guy.

  • Michael Legat

    Mark,

If he had gone to the Vikings they’d be Super Bowl favorites???? The Jets were Super Bowl favorites five weeks ago!!! They have the 9th best running game of the season! They had five Pro Bowl players!

STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR BRETT FAVRE!!!! Why do people still feel the need to cover for a grown ass man? There are always a hundred and one reasons why Favre plays badly other than Favre plays badly.

  • paul

15 seasons….only one losing season with Favre. It is amazing to watch you people sway with the wind. Any sport has a huge psychological component, momentum, leadership, etc., that is nearly impossible to measure, but, the Jets fell apart probably for one of those reasons. Not entirely Favre’s arm, decision making etc. I hear many say “its a team, not one person.” Well then, quit swaying with the breeze. All of your posts would have been different with two more Jets wins, maybe one. Case and point, the Cowboys have a lot of talent..look where they are. The Pats….ooops. I can go on with more teams. Hey, look who one the NFC North. Two of our wins came from the lions and I believed we had a lot of talent on this team….IT IS THE LEADERSHIP, psychology, momentum of our team that fell apart. I still would bet those components would not have died if the grey one stayed. I really just wished he stayed retired so this would not have come up. Lastly, quit with the crap about beating the Lions…we really tried to lose that one but even the loss of momentum, leadership, etc., the Lions are so bad, the Packers couldn’t even lose to them. Sorry for the rant, I have not had my coffee yet. Happy New Year dammit.
