Bengals at Packers Game Blog

Well, the Packers don’t look sharp early against the Bengals. Two drops already by Finley and Jennings  cost the Packers big plays and early momentum. This high-powered offense appears to still be out of sync. Lets see what the defense can do.

12:17 PM: Wow! The Bengals are here to kick some ass today. They just shredded the Packers new and not-so-improved defense to the tune of 63 yards in four minutes for a 7-0 in just six plays. This could get ugly and quick if the Packers’ offense continues to struggle. Now the Bengals are kicking off at the 50 because of a personal foul on the touchdown pass. What the hell is going on out there?

12:27 PM: That is more like the Packers offense we saw in the preseason. 80 yards in 11 plays for a 7-7 ballgame. Gorgeous TD pass to Double-D. The shootout has begun.

12:34 PM: Holy cow! The defense must have had a major wake up call by that first Cincy drive, they pick off C. Palmer and two plays later the Packers lead 14-7. Packers now have some momentum on both sides of the ball. Ryan Grant looks so much better this year its not even funny.

1:00 PM: Conservative play calling by the Packers to start their drive led to a special teams gaff and a three-play Bengal touchdown drive. 14-all with 10 minutes left in the 2nd. We have ourselves a ball game ladies and gentleman, and the home team needs to pick up the pace. I told you the Bengals weren’t going to be pushovers.

1:07 PM: Another three-and-out by the Packers offense. Same problem as last week, can’t protect the quarterback, in fact, they can barely run a play without a false start or holding penalty. Someone needs to rip this team a new one because they look undisciplined and unprepared at this point of the game. Benson is running like the Packers are throwing popcorn at him. Not pretty.

1:22 PM: I’ve seen everything now. The Bengals have third-and-34 and make the first down with one play. The Packers’ defense is not looking good today. Now a flea-flicker and the Bengals have a first-and-goal. My gut feeling is the Packers lose this game, they are not ready to play today.

1:30 PM: The Packers defense has proven there is a long way to go in learning this new 3-4 scheme. They haven’t come close to stopping the Bengals without making an interception and now have lost safety Nick Collins. The Bengals are the better team right now, and that is not a good sign. The Packers just can’t seem to win two-in-a-row in Lambeau for the life of them. It will take monumental change in fortune for the Packers to win this game. Ryan Grant just dropped another pass and he was wide open. Rodgers throws into quadruple coverageand luckily gets the flag. The 17th penalty of the first half. Get the lead before half and I will feel a lot better.

1:59 PM The Packers will have to win this game with their offense and I think that is going to be a tough task. The best defense on the field today is wearing striped helmets. The Bengals were 12 in the NFL last year and might be even better this year. The Packers’ offense has accounted for seven points today, and if you think about it they have really only scored about 13 points on their own in the first six quarters of the year. Not good. No offense in the second half will mean no win today.

2:10 PM: Ryan Grant just ended any chance the Packers had of changing the momentum of this game. The Packers were on their way to a 95-yard scoring drive and now the Bengals are riding Benson to victory. The Packers’ defense can’t stop Benson and the offense is making mistake after mistake. So much for the easy schedule the Packers have and the great defense I thought they’d have. I was wrong, you all were right. We should have kept Brett Favre.

2:21 PM: High hopes dashed. The Packers are pretenders and not contenders. Ochocinco gets his Lambeau Leap and the Bengals take the lead. The Packers will have to do some serious gut-checking this week. This is not who we thought they were. The offense stinks and the defense is only marginally improved. It’s only one game and its an AFC opponent, but a loss is a loss especially when the Vikings are rolling in Detroit. I would never pick against the Pack but if I did it would have been this week. Completely overconfident right now. Head coach Mike McCarthy thought he had a challenge last year, he doesn’t know what a challenge is. A couple of more games like this and his head will be on the chopping block right next to Ted Thompsons.

2:45 PM: This is by far the worst offensive line the Packers have fielded since 1991 or so. They couldn’t block my grandmother. If Rodgers makes it through four games it will be a miracle, I doubt he even makes it through this game. The bright side I guess is we know where the problem is, but then again, what can they possibly do to fix it now. Training camp is over. Barbe can’t do the job, Sitton can’t do the job. Clifton is out with injury and Colledge has no experience at left tackle. This game is over, it is next week we have to worry about now. Who will line up and where? Instead of a 3-1 start it looks more and more like 1-3.

3:11 PM: This game will either be the springboard to a winning season as a wake up call or just another game in another losing season for the Packers. The inability to build an offensive line is all Ted Thompson’s fault and now the Packers are paying for it. McCarthy is on the hot seat now. This was a bad one. I promise I won’t overrate this team again. Of course, that won’t be hard to do after today.

Over and out.

  • Dan

When are we going to get decent lines? Is it the coaching? Is it bad players?
Someone please tell me what the problem is and why we keep putting out sub-par performances.

The o-line was bad and then Clifton went out. If we don’t get this fixed soon, Rodgers is going to get killed out there.

Why can’t we stop the run? I thought the 3-4 and was supposed to improve things.

Dropped passes, fumbles, missing wide open WRs. I know stuff happens, but the coaches need to fix this immediately. Not tomorrow, not next week, tonight. If it wasn’t for Woodson picking off a couple passes, we would have been like watching Custer at Little Big Horn.

  • Mark Troy

    Is Cedric Benson that good?
    Or were we that bad?

  • iccyfan

The Titans lose at home to the Texans. The Patriots fail to score an offensive TD and lose to a rookie QB and the Jets. The Eagles get blown away at home by the Saints. I guess all those organizations suck too.

Get over it! Teams have poor days and EVERY team (save maybe Detroit) is loaded with talent and can win on any given weekend.

Seriously, as poorly as they played, if Jerstupid Finley had come set, Aaron Rodgers would have thrown the TD pass to take that game to OT! I’m drinkin’ the kool-aid!!!

  • Jack in Columbus

iccyfan – You just put a smile back on my face. The Pack should be able to rebound from this loss. (Sip.) Yum, Goofy Grape Kool-Aid. MY fav.

  • Mark Troy

    Great… (not)
The Packers “get” to play the Bengals, and lose,
and da Bears “have” to play the Steelers, and win.

    This sucks! (this week anyway)

  • Monkeon

The only way to fix the O-Line is to get new players.

  • Pete H

Finley Finley Finley….really. Rodgers is my guy but lets put the blame where its due. Yes the line is weak (5 sacks from some clown), but Rodgers has thrown one great ball so far and many bad ones.

  • iccyfan

Pete H Says: “Finley Finley Finley….really.”

Just so this doesn’t go off on some tangent as threads on this board are apt to do, I never came close to “blaming” Finley for the loss. I called him stupid for not immediately going into his stance with time running out. Some might say his position coach hadn’t instructed him in this situation and other might say it’s the GM’s fault for drafting a player with a low wonderlic. At the end of the day, players need to know their responsibilites, as ten other players on the offensive team did. He was stupid…

  • paul

The momentum shift was when Ryan fumbled the ball. He is starting to feel like a S. Gado to me.

  • justawake

Ball security seems to be important to #12, but maybe to the point that he’s afraid to throw a pick. Throwing these dumpoffs on 3rd and long, which we were in all day by the way, does not move the chains. I would have felt better about his performance if he would have thrown 3 ints. At least give your receivers a chance to make a play. An int on 3rd and long is the same as a punt on fourth.
I mainly blame the coaching today. Poorly called game on defense and offense. We abandoned the run too early once again, and waited until Cincy was in prevent defense to throw the ball down the field.
Without Woodson, we get blown out today.
Our linebackers are average, it doesn’t matter how many of them are on the field and our most explosive LB only plays on special teams.
Anthony Smith would be nice to have on our roster right about now. Bush is worthless.
Very embarrassing. The scapegoats on the coaching staff are gone. MM and TT have nowhere to hide anymore, they’ve been exposed.
I know its only two games, but this version on the Packers is starting to remind me of the 70′s-80s version.
In my mind, I can’t picture McCarthy hoisting the Lombardi trophy. Bring back Holmgren. Give him whatever he wants!
Drunken angry rant over. Peace out, y’all!

  • paul

    ….Ryan Grant that is…sorry

  • Mel e Mel

ICCY 141 yds to MFing Cedric Benson Cincy was the only team in the league that wanted this guy. You cant afford losses like these

  • Pete H

ICCY, I got you. Finley absolutely needs to know what to do. Even Hoculi..or however you say his name, said the clock had expired. The Pack should have won that game long before then. In reality though, they shouldmhave been blownout long before then. They got flat out overmatched….everywhere. This is 2 horseshit game plans in a row that haven’t fooled anyone, and has been executed about as well as Pop Warner kids could expect to. Dropped balls, piss ass blocking, shoddy tackling…today…and horse shit quarterbacking. I’m sorry, I love Rodgers, but again he has been awful. period.

  • RayL

I dont think Tony Gonzo would have made that mistake! Again J. Bush has no business in the NFL and our O-Line sucks. We lose to the Bengals at home…not good. We will not make the playoffs this year with our O-line…end of story. Hope TT gets fired and MM gos with him.

  • RayL

I almost forgot to mention J. Harrell we passed up Greg Olsen for JH..maybe this is his year to show us what he is made of…but he is on IR…wow. Both TE’s Olsen and TG hel;ped their teams win this weekend ours cost us dearly…

  • Reid

paul – you are right, that fumble really hurt. But, plenty of blame to go around. Fumble, penalty after penalty, dropped passes, QB runs right into a sack, no blocking, can’t stop the run, poor play calling, etc, etc.

I won’t make any more predictions about this team, they are too inconsistent and make too many mistakes. What did we do for 6 weeks in the pre-season? How come we can’t even punt without a penalty, before the punt?

Ridiculous. They make me sick. I couldn’t even watch the last 10 minutes. And I have tickets to next week’s game in STL. I got them for under face value and already feel like I overpaid. I fully expect to throw up a few times in the Ed Jones Dome, clean up in row M!!!

  • Stan

If you can’t run the ball and you can’t stop the run, you won’t win many games.
The Packers reverted back to their 2008 persona. It makes you wonder whether the new defensive scheme is simply window dressing. You can change the scheme but you can’t change the personnel. Cedric Benson took it to us. Cedric Benson.

Some things that should scare Packer fans:
    (1) Missed tackles. The whole linebacking crew really struggled.
    (2) Inability of LBs to shed tackles.
    (3) Blown coverages.
    (4) Inability to come up with a big stop. Packers are the only team in the NFL that can be relied upon to give up a 3rd and VERY long.

Hopefully, we can turn it around on defense. Of course, it won’t matter if we can’t field at least ONE serviceable offensive tackle.

  • Matt Hayton

Woe! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Calm down people. Very concerning, but it happens in the NFL people. All will be well in the world if they can regroup and win in Minnesota in 2 weeks, then all of you clowns will be predicting they go to the SuperBowl again… 2 bold predictions: 1. we will sign atleast 1 OT by Wednesday. Anyone have John Runyan’s digits? 2. We will still go 9-7 and squeak into the playoffs.

To me this is the difference this loss made. I had us at 10-6 and a wild card, now I think we are 9-7.

If #2 doesn’t happen and we are 8-8 or worse again, fire them all! No excuses this year, no injury this, no poor pad level that, no defense sucks, so don’t blame Aaron! No excuses. Playoffs or get thrown out on your ass!

And oh, contrar, my friends. I actually think they will do it. Here’s hoping for football in January boys!

In a bit of irony, just in case the sky does fall, I think it will be rather ironic that team depth be will TT’s undoing. He has ruthlessly gutted this roster of superstars and talented veterans, in favor of stockpiling draft picks to get the deepest 53-man roster, in his mind, only to largely ignore the O-Line for 5 years and now having it bite him in the ass! I’ve seen the 4 book-end issue (Tausch, Cliffy, Woodson and Harris) for 3 years now, knocking at the door…too bad TT missed the memo…Injuries to 2 aging OT’s is not rocket science to predict people, failing to be prepared is just not getting the job done.

Novel idea, make a trade, use a draft pick if you need to…someone has to have an NFL caliber OT on the bench…get the job done Teddy, prove us naysayers wrong! Get it fixed!~

  • Monty Montana

its over i dont want to listen to any more excuses by mccarthy abouy anything….five years to build a team and this is what Ted an Mike have created. As i predicted Capers is in the wings waiting and Ted gets one more year to get it right, but he cant because he doesnt know how to draft…….harrell over olsen….im not making predctions anymore, this team isnt going anywhere…where is my bag, its time to turn the lights out on these clowns

  • Matt Hayton

And FYI – this just in, Jennings was the one who wasn’t set on the last play morons, not Finley(watch the tape, don’t listen to the announcers next time). How about throwing down the middle of the field twice with no timeouts? Any blame there, uh I think so! Not too mention it was AR who missed Finley badly 2 plays before, unless Flynn stole AR’s jersey during the TV timeout, must have been, because God knows AR can do know wrong!

  • Matt Hayton

    sp…no wrong!

  • Stan

The sky is falling. Packer fans were taken in by an impressive preseason. I don’t care what scheme you run; if your linebackers can’t shed blockers or tackle under a four-three, they’re not going to do it under a three-four.

We can’t run the ball. Grant doesn’t look explosive. Our line is terrible. We cannot protect the qb. AR holds onto the ball too long. MM either calls routes that take a very long time to develop (too long) or he calls a slant route. Hey Mike, the league has caught on! Your big five package, all slant routes is not a surprise. I’ve never seen an offense that requires the qb to make so many passes at such incredibly difficult angles. I guarantee our receivers get laid out more than any other receivers in the league.

So yeah, if you’ve been a believer in MM this whole time and you’re still buying his weekly “it’s the fundamentals” or “we’ll make the necessary corrections” talk, then the Packers are a 12-4 division winner and the sky isn’t falling after this one loss. But if you see the same disturbing characteristics in this game as seasons past, then the sky has fallen. We quite possibly have the worst LB crew in the NFL — AJ Hawk (bust), Nick Barnett (overrated, misses more tackles than he makes), Brady Popinga (on any other NFL team, he is a long snapper). You can’t scheme a lack of talent.

  • packer_bob

OK, I’ved calmed down somewhat today. Let’s see if I can be objective about yesterday’s disaster.

First, our offense is not going to be good this year if they don’t got the O-line fixed. Ours is a flipping sieve right now and that’s being kind. It all starts with the line and right now ours stinks. 5 sacks to one guy? I have to admit to not knowing much about Cincy but are they THAT good on defense? I think after the preseason games we all expected our offense to play at a high level. Without a line, that’s not going to happen.

Our defense stunk yesterday with the exception of Charles Woodson. Hopefully it was just an off day, but after bottling up Forte in week one we let Cedric Benson tear us a new one. Completely unacceptable.

We are still shooting ourselves in the foot: penalties, turnovers, special teams gaffes. This comes down to the players doing their jobs, obviously but I think you have to blame the coaches somewhat as well. This has been a recurring problem going back to last year and what is this, MM’s fourth season.

I think this talk about giving up on the season is premature, but we have alot of work to do. That’s two weeks in row of Rodgers taking a beating, that needs to stop. And if we can let OchoCinco do a Leap in our house and make Cedric Benson look All-World, what in the hell are going to do against AP in a couple of weeks?

  • PA PackFan

Yesterday saw a total breakdown by the Pack. We didn’t run the ball enough. The pass protection was totally inadequate.Rodgers should have thrown the ball away several times instead of taking the sack. I don’t need to watch game film to see that. Too many dropped passes – where was Jennings yesterday? The run defense didn’t show up either with Benson getting 140 plus yards in 12 yard runs. Some sloppy tackling was also evident and way to many penalties Special teams allowed two long run backs of kicks.

The only positives to come out of the game were the interceptions.

TT needs to scour the market to see if we can pick up a half decent veteran O Lineman

  • iccyfan

Matt Hayton Says: Matt Hayton Says: “And FYI – this just in, Jennings was the one who wasn’t set on the last play morons, not Finley (watch the tape, don’t listen to the announcers next time).”
    ==========
    Excerpt from the Journal Sentinal:

“Center Scott Wells and a number of the other linemen got up the field quickly. Brown spotted the ball at the 10. Right tackle Allen Barbre was the last of the linemen to get into position, and Finley did not have his left hand down on the ground when Rodgers got under center.

Receiver Jordy Nelson appeared in position wide right, and Driver was standing still in the slot on the left. Television replays didn’t show Jennings or receiver James Jones split wide to the left until after the ball was snapped, and it was difficult to tell whether either had lined up properly before Wells snapped the ball.”
    ============

They showed the replay Matt, and it was very clear Jermichael Finley was lined up at left TE and his hand was moving down towards the ground when the ball was snapped. Interesting that you claim to have “watched the tape” to determine it was Jennings when the article notes Jennings wasn’t visible. Not that any of this really matters, but when somebody acts like a “know-it-all”, casts insults and is proven to be blowing smoke, they deserve to be called out as a TOOL…

Sadly, the officials got the call correct; they just might not have gotten the player’s number right, which would be understandable in the confusion…

  • packer_bob

Would anyone have guessed Rodgers would have only one touchdown pass in two games? It’s not his fault entirely with the pressure he’s been getting and some of the dropped balls, but he hasn’t been as accurate as he looked in pre.

I was expecting him to look like Drew Brees has so far this season. Hopefully he’ll bounce back to preseason form.

  • Reid

P_B: Correction, Rodgers has 2 TD passes, 1 in each game. Of course, he was sacked 6 freaking times yesterday too.

  • packer_bob

Yeah, Reid, you’re right about that. For some reason I forgot about the game winner to Jennings last week, don’t ask me how.

Still, I was counting on him tearing it up from the start this year and so far it hasn’t happened. We’re pretty damn lucky we’re not 0-2.

  • packer_bob

iccy, took this from MSN article on the game:

” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said officials told him the call was on wide receiver Greg Jennings.” And he was shut out in receptions.

Love me some Greg Jennings, but not his best day yesterday.

  • packer_bob

Am I only one that wishes someone from the defense would have run over and dropped Ochocinco after that Leap?

  • iccyfan

packer_bob Says: iccy, took this from MSN article on the game:
” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said officials told him the call was on wide receiver Greg Jennings.”
    =====
I know who the officials called it on, and bottom line it doesn’t matter who it was (85 or 89); games still over! I took exception to Matt Hayton calling me a moron and instructing me to “watch tape”. The replay clearly showed Finley moving his hand and Matt couldn’t have seen Jennings “move” because he wasn’t visible in the frame. Those were the pertinent points from the Journal-Sentinel excerpt. Of course, Matt probably has access to “tape” not available to the rest of us schmucks…

  • Matt Hayton

iccy…what bothers me is that you called finley out, for clearly a team debacle. Looks like we are both right or wrong, depending upon your perspective. Both Jennings and Finley weren’t set. My “watch the tape” comment, was just stating that before you blame someone for losing the game, you should make sure you correct. Which clearly there was plenty of blame to go around, inlcluding on this play as Jennings wasn’t set either, not to mention, a QB who made an idiot decision to throwing the ball down the middle as time expired. that’s what ended the game, not a last ditch play when a TE couldn’t get set….But then again, Lord Rodgers can do no wrong…so Finley had to be your scapegoat!

Now that is insulting and acting like a tool…

  • Pack4life

Allen Babre last week “poor technique” Daryn College this week “poor technique”
Did I miss something? are these guys rookies? Meanwhile Buffalo is able to protect their QB with 1st year guys and rookies. Campen has to walk the plank.
WTF is up with sitting Raji? We are setting the d up to fail, the line played way too many snaps this week and have no breathers.
Jennings not one catch absolute Horse___ The Jury is back and Sean Payton was the right hire. They lost their LT and havent missed a beat.
As I have stated before Poppinga is not an NFL player end of story, he is not an athlete period. Hawk is not stout at the point of attack and Bishop must replace him now.
The defense can be fixed. The Offense has too many issues at the line of scrimmage. Barring a trade or a late edition the line cant be repaired. I hate to say it but Sherman’s teams (prior to the Wahle,Rivera fiasco) were light years ahead this.

  • Stan

Agreed, as I stated earlier…we have one of the weakest LB units in football (check out some preseason guides). AJ Hawk is a bust (truth hurts I know). Barnett misses more tackles than he makes. If Poppinga was on any other NFL team, he’d be the long snapper. They can’t shed blocks, and they can’t tackle. If you can’t stop the run and you can’t run the ball, you won’t win many games.

  • packer_bob

    P4L,

Yeah, it’s simply unacceptable to have a line look like this with players that have been in our system this long. How many draft picks have we dumped into O lineman the last few years? You sure can’t tell by watching them play, they’ve terrible two games in a row.

It doesn’t matter how much talent you have at the skill positions, it all starts at the line of scrimmage and right now we are getting beat and beat badly.

  • packer_bob

    Stan,

We won some games early in 2007 without being able to run the ball. Remember Grant didn’t emerge until about week 8 or 9. In general I agree with you, but it can be done. Arizona was a wisker away from being SB champs last year without much of a ground game.

What is so frustating is that we are winning the TO battle big time, +5 I think through 2 games, and we’re fortunate we’re not 0-2. Without those 2 picks yesterday Cincy wins in a blowout. What are we going to do when we have a game and don’t generate TO’s? Probably get our asses kicked.

  • Pack4life

AZ can get away with that in the NFC Worst. No snow and wind in AZ. Pittsburgh didnt have must protection on their oline or a running game however Big Ben has the chin of Rocky Marciano and no one is gone to score much against Pitt.

  • packer_bob

Well like I said, I agree with the point that you have to be able to run the football. I’m not advising we should prefer to give up on the run in our division. But if we can’t do anybetter than we have been doing, maybe it’s time to try running the offense like we did in the first 8 games or so of 2007, at least until we get some semblance of cohesion out of the line.

  • jackson

I agree with Justawake. I would rather see some attempts with INT’s than sack after sack. Rogers QB rating may look better but at least this old QB I use to know would try to make something happen…and did quite often. I don’t think MM has the intellectual ability to take this team to the superbowl. It is easy to see in his interviews, explanations, and sad play calling…damn I’m pissed.

  • packer_bob

“at least this old QB I use to know would try to make something happen…and did quite often”

Jackson, you’re talking about Lynn Dickey, aren’t you?

  • jackson

    Randy Wright actually ;)

  • packer_bob

So where the hell’s Brutus today? I want him to tell me why he wouldn’t bet me and explain how his upset pick of the day, the Lions, worked out.

Maybe he can tell me about Rodgers great looking deep balls again as well.

  • http://jlworden1suddenlink.net Larry

Wanted to hear MM’s explanations and corrections before I commented but the “briefer” indicates all he’ll say is what we heard all last year.

Dropped balls, penalties, mis-alignments I blame on players. Players not up and ready I blame the coach(s). Not having suitable injury replacements I blame the GM. We were thoroughly outplayed and outcoached and Capers deserves as much blame as the rest of them. Al said it in a nutshell “This is not who we thought they were” and now this is the roster we will play with the rest of the year. I think iccyfan and p_b covered all the individual problems so no need to repeat what went wrong.

Major upset Sunday all around and we cannot be possibly this bad, but were now behind MIN and tied w/CHI instead of going to week 4 undefeated – not good.

Killer stats that can’t possibly be repeated are 140 for a Benson, 11 penalties, 0 Jenkins and (2) long run backs. Every part of this team failed! Mea Culpa.

  • packer_bob

Yes, Larry, no reason to beat a dead horse. There are several break downs of the numbers on the linked articles on the home page. They are horrible anyway you look it, other than the 2 Woodson picks.

I assume you mean 0 Jennings above, right? Let’s just hope we’re getting out of the chute a little slow and get it turned around. That O-line play needs to improve in a hurry, though, or Rodgers is going to get hurt.

  • Jack in Columbus

This “I would rather see ARod throw an INT than take a sack” talk is wrong-headed. The preferred option to taking a sack is to simply throw the ball away (out of bounds). I thought that, when a QB is getting squeezed in the pocket (or worse, sacked), the answer is to move the pocket. ARod is a decent QB throwing the roll out, he can tuck it under and run well (for a Pro QB), and roll-outs might have helped us keep the Bungles honest on their QB rushes and set up some screens to the opposite side of the field and short passes to the same side. BTW, MM said today that ARod’s “pad level” was “nice and low” on those six sacks yesterday.

  • Dan

Al sums it up right here…
“1:22 PM: I’ve seen everything now. The Bengals have third-and-34 and make the first down with one play. The Packers’ defense is not looking good today. Now a flea-flicker and the Bengals have a first-and-goal. My gut feeling is the Packers lose this game, they are not ready to play today.”

No way does any prepared team give up a 3rd and 34. Players weren’t prepared and that responsibility falls on the individual players and the coaching staff.

  • Jack in Columbus

Stan – I think you may be right about AJ Hawk. He was made great in college by a great supporting casts, BTW. I was not in favor of the Packers drafting him, and I got to see all of his games here in Buckeye land. I was really suprised at how badly our LBs got pushed out of the play yesterday. No one looked good to me. So maybe Hawk keeps his job by default.

  • roy jamison

So I guess we can begin calling him Average Joe Hawk.

  • Maxaz1

This is not who we thought they were” Only the cheer leaders thought we were back. If not for the bears gift we would be 0-2. Management errors continue. Players prove themselves in preseason and they get cut or sit on the bench. Hawk has been a wasted pick since day one. Going on the road is now a big problem. If we lose to the vikings the season is over after four games. This team will not recover.

  • roy jamison

Q: Did you feel you were leaving yourself vulnerable by not having someone else?)
MM: That’s really a benefit of our linemen, the ability to play multiple positions. I think it says enough about Daryn Colledge that you have the confidence in him to go out there and play. Ideally, Chad Clifton has played a lot of football for us in the past. We felt confident coming off of his particular surgeries in the offseason that he’d be ready to go. Injuries are part of the game, and we just need to adjust and move on.

(They felt confident Cliffy would make it thru the year? Holy crappola!)
