Packers-Cowboys Game Blog

3:20 PM:  Three and out by the offense and the Cowboys are on the move. Packers look over-matched big time so far. This must be what the Lions feel like every week.

3:31 PM: McCartney has to be the dumbest coach in history. He bitches about losing the field position battle every week on special teams then rolls out a kicker who can’t kick for a 52-yard field goal giving the Cowboys explosive offense a short track. I would have rather seen them go for it that do that shit.

4:04 PM:  Rodgers is simply gun-shy now. Havner was wide open and Rodgers wouldn’t take the five yards. Havner gets pissed and drills a guy out of bounds. What a horribly coached team this is. Rodgers is in a major sophomore slump. Earlier Green was open over the middle for five or six and he wouldn’t throw it. If you are going to be a West Coast Offense then be a West Coast Offense. It’s 0-0 now but the Cowboys win this going away.

4:17 PM:  Amazing how well a screen works. Second time not so well. I like the way the defense is playing but with time running down in the half I suspect the Cowboys turn it up a notch. The shutout will be broke by halftime.

4:28 PM: If we can just hold them here.

4:36 PM:  Rodgers is not very smart. You throw that ball away not lose three yards. No way Bing makes this.

4:58 PM:  We might win the challenge, but did Tramon Williams just tackle himself?

5:18 PM:  I am very happy with the way the defense is playing, by far its best game of the year so far. It may be all for naught if the offense doesn’t pull its head out.

5:35 PM: Jordy catches that in his sleep.

5:39 PM: Mike McCartney is the worst coach in the NFL or has the worst people in the NFL working for him. I have a 10″ TV and I can see that wasn’t a TD. McCartney will fire Joe Blow from the grounds crew but lets the bozo who tells him to challenge this call keep his job? We will not win this game because of that stupidity. McCartney needs to go. Period.

5:42 PM:  All the momentum of the drive is gone. I doubt the Packers score.

5:45 PM:  OK! This is all on the defense now. The offense did its job. I still am not confident. I just don’t trust our defense.

5:55 PM:  My boy Havner! I just called it too! Can we hang on?

6:06 PM:  Mike McCartney is clearly the dumbest coach in the NFL history. Even if we win this game the future is not bright.

6:14 PM:  Game winner by Charles Woodson!!! Holy cow!

6:32 PM: Like I said, if every instinct I have is wrong, then the opposite must be right. I am a very happy man right now. If we can just get some consistency now, we are not out of it.  Philly lost, Atlanta lost, the Packers may be right back in the hunt for their goal of meeting Brett Favre again is still alive.

Over and out for tonight. Going to have a pop or two tonight I’m thinking.

Well we know no Caper can adjust. This game might be requiem for Kampman, its sad but thats the NFL. The problem will continue to be the offense. So far the Offense can hang its hat on the verical passing game (in the rare moments Rodgers can have time). This team need to be run heavy. Sticking to the run next week will be an issue. No way this team will block Patrick Willis. THankfully our old pal Mark Roman starts for the Niners.

This is one weekend that I wished I would have been in the Wisconsin because the sports teams achieved the trifecta. Bucks, Badgers and the topper being the Packers win. After listening to Skip Bayless on ESPN…who I alternately agree and disagree with…I have to agree with him that the Vikings loss may have lead to a hangover loss to the Bucs. I know that’s a signal of bad coaching, but it’s also a sign of how much those Packers wanted to beat Favre in Lambeau and how much it took out of them. Yesterday, they wiped the slate clean, and if they continue to play like this and A-Rod can stay healthy, it’s hard telling how far they could go.
By the way Brad Jones did a nice job at outside linebacker.

PackerPete, as I am wont to do, ask why so specific on Jag? What is he doing, where is he, is he available, for what price? Last I heard he got fired from the team that picked him up when he left here, am I wrong?
Mike from Ariz, MM did find someone – Arod changed a lot of calls from the bench.

Wow, I didn’t htink we had a change after Tampa Bay, I live in Lubbock Texas and I was getting all kinds of shit from co-workers last week. Today, I didn’t have to say a word. I just walked around the plant wearing my cheesehead. How sweet it was.

Darned TT screwed up again. And, Gruden was available too. You guys let me down too, ’cause some of you were supposed to be out there helping with those phone calls. Again, darn, and he had a 60-57 record too.

Even number 4 would have waved the white flag the way that defense played. Here’s hoping we get to face him in the playoffs with this same intensity!

  • AATP

LT, I heard that this morning that Gruden signed a two year deal with ESPN to do the MNF commentary… Good for him but that’s one less coaching prospect for us for next season…;)

  • Devil’s Advocate…

This one would have been sweet had the Packer’s went a head and garunteed the victory. They would have been the news for the week.
Officiating a little better this week. The first holding penalty on Jordy doesn’t get called against 20-25 other teams. Yet another phantom penalty…….. The facemask didn’t happen, the guy even had a sheild on his helmet, so there was no where to grab the facemask. They ought to keep a stat on phantom penalties too. I bet the Pack wins that one. The Cowboys have a decent ST’s coach. You’ll notice on one of the punts, the guy takes the Packer blocker and grabs hold and steers him into the PR. If the punt had .5 more seconds of hang time that’d have probably bounced of the Packers for a free ball. Hopefeully the Packers noticed that and plan a few high punts and blocker into the the PR, of their own. Good teams teach all that other stuff. Just like the penalties, if the Packers need to make up a highlight film of all the penalties they’ve been called for and another of other teams doing the same things but not receiving penalties, then they’d better do it.
Good win though. We’ll see if they have consistancy now. If so, they should be OK. They now know how they’ll need to play for the rest of the season!!!! I think what we saw were the D players going around, over, through the player in front of them yesterday instead of being content to be blocked and just clog a lane or wait for it to come to them.

DA-Are you going to admit the refs finally gave us a break or two. I hate officiating but it finally worked in our favor.

The only think I hate is, I enjoy the win, but now my hopes are up again and hope not to have my heart broken. This team overcame MM’s poor coaching and play calling. Not knowing how many challenges you have is inexcusable. However, Capers dialed up the perfect defense, blitz, blitz, blitz….why did we not do that to Favre?

and no Al, i do not swallow.

but my wife does! Peace, thanks for the site.

    Dee’s Nuts

  • RayL

Eating crow here…I also admit…I gave the Pack no chance to win this game. Boy was I wrong. Woodson is a beast. Barnettt showed up and Clay Matthews looked great. I will say that the Pack did get some homecooking from the ref’s and all of the breaks. The packers are still in this hunt. Game ball to CW.

    LarryTex,

I am specific with Jags because he is a Yooper, Sconie guy, he was the reason McCarthy went into the Zone Run scheme, he has shown himself to be capable of leading a program successfully (BC) and he has had some issues at his previous jobs because of his leadership and competitiveness clashing with less qualified HC (Sherman, Morris), but he has worked well in other situations where he fits, GB with MM and Atlanta with Alex Gibbs.

He is a firey guy with regional roots who simply will not take losing as acceptable. he is a good play caller and a good strategist using the ZBS and WCO. He is the reason our offense is structured as it is, and his absence is the reason we have floundered. When he came everything was in alignment for success, when he got the HC at BC job, our scheme fell into disrepair strategically and educationally with the current crop of stooge OL/OC coaches.
