Packers-Bears Game Blog

12:07 PM:  Holy cow! A Ryan Grant sighting! 62 yards to paydirt on the first play from scrimmage for the Green Bay Packers. What a deal for the Packers.

12:24 PM:  The Packers were just robbed of a TD by the replay officials. Hope it doesn’t come back to haunt them. Jennings hurt on the play to boot.

12:33 PM:  That sucked! A touchdown there and the Bears might start thinking about packing it in. Why can’t score TDs in the redzone anymore?

12:37 PM:  No matter how bad it gets in Green Bay, at least we didn’t give up two firsts and a third and a starting quarterback for Jay Cutler. C-Wood with another pick but the offense is all of sudden struggling. Might be time to open up a little.

12:49 PM:  Another failure in the redzone. I promise it will come back to haunt us. With our bad special teams the Bears can catch up in a hurry. Watch the next kickoff return. I can see Knox going the distance and instead of 21-7 it is 13-7 and the Bears are pumped up. Not good. Got to step your game up offense.

1:03 PM: Enough with the grind it out shit, we can run the ball on them. Time to open it up. We are letting them stick around and I don’t like it.

1:07 PM: Here come the Bears. We are going to wire in this one.

1:13 PM:  Jay Cutler is picking apart the Packers secondary now that he has time to throw. The Packers are blitzing and not getting home and this is usually what happens. The defense needs to come up big here. After giving up a long third down the defense is on it’s heals. Two-minute warning to catch their breath.

1:17 PM:  Bears should win this challenge. It’s up to the offense to respond.

1:21 PM:  Oh well, same result. The Packers are in big trouble. Losing their composure. The season won’t end with a loss, but it will certainly be disappointing and leave the Packers in a precarious position. We’ll see what the coach has up his sleeve at halftime to turn this lackadaisical effort around. Last time we scored a long touchdown this early in a game we lost at Tampa Bay. Not good.

1:25 PM:  Bears sack Rodgers and we give up. This has all the makings of an upset. Now Finley fumbles away a chance at a field goal. Not looking good ladies and gentleman. Now McCarthy calls timeout with six seconds left in the half and the Bears willing to run it out. We will lose this game. Mark my word. Could not have been a worse first half for the Packers.

1:46 PM:  Rodgers is just pathetic today. This game is over. Packers were not ready to play today. The mannerisms are just like Tampa Bay. They can’t believe what is happening to them. I’ll try not to get to mad, we just really need the Eagles and Chargers to win now. Tough place to regroup in Pittsburgh next week. All of sudden this season has turned sour. The Packer have no answer for Cutler.

1:51 PM:  Charles Woodson for defensive player of the year? Not after today. Damn I hate when I’m right. Blame this one on McCarthy. For the second time this year his team was completely flat. Maybe it will be a good thing if we don’t make the playoffs. I would hate to get embarrassed again.

2:00 PM:  Rodgers couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn today. No comeback looming.

2:07 PM:  This is Jay Cutler’s coming out party. He is picking apart the number one defense in the NFL and some young bozo is making Charles Woodson look like a rookie. Bend over and take it people.

2:09 PM:  Every pass Cutler throws  is right on the money. The Packers have no answer. I hope Rodgers learns from this experience, and quickly. The Steelers are going to be in an angry mood next week and misery loves company, so they would like nothing more than to end our season just as theirs has already ended. Looks like 8-8 now folks.

2:25 PM:  Revolting turn of events for the Bears and the Packers now lead 21-14. Do the Packers have the killer instinct? Can they win when Rodgers has a bad day? We are about to find out.

2:39 PM:  The two worst play calls of the year lead to a drop by Jackson and a missed field goal by Crosby. No killer instinct yet.

3:01 PM:  This game is over. Unbelievable. How the Packers won this game is going to take weeks to determine. It can’t be solved overnight. CSI, NCIS, Bones, House and Monk have all been called in. They didn’t show much killer instinct on offense, but the defense pulled it out in the end. The Packers swept the Bears. How sweet it is!

Tex its simpler than that. Bill Belichek, Bill Polian. TT is good but not at their level.

  • http://jlworden1suddenlink.net LarryTex

Oh, hell, how true Pack. This is not a debate, can’t be. Belichek has 10 years on the job, one organization, so who knows MMs future. Nobody today can be compared to Polian, not even Vince or Wolf. 23 years of success, but he did start with Bruce Smith. Your not fair!

ON the positive side, can the Cards really be that bad?

    Rocky70 Says:
“BTW, didn’t you quit here once because of PB ? ………. You had some pretty revealing ‘rhetoric’ during that whole episode if I remember correctly.”

I never quit frequenting the board – I believe you misinterpretted my sign-off on that particular day, namely, “I’m out” (carryover from when I used to listen to Jim Rome). I am guilty of your other charge and incured a personal foul penalty for “giving him (PB) the business”. Either PB has quit drafting manifestos or I skip over them – in any case I’ve had no further unkind words for him (or anybody else, save an occasional attempt to drag paul into the open). I do tire of certain regulars who see themselves as the conscience of the average packer fan…

I won’t disagree with your point regarding “insightful content” – every topic here eventually goes back to the same central argument (TT/MM) and bogs down, with the same site characters reciting the same opinion positions. Que Sera Sera – I look forward to Al’s fresh take promised for this evening!

    Lastly, I have a 14 y/o daughter and she’d never end a text sentence with …

I thought TT was a tightwad till he turned Santa with Chillar’s 5 mil a year contract. I see in the news that if A.J. returns, he’ll get close to 7 mil next year. Such a deal.

  • http://jlworden1suddenlink.net LarryTex

Well, there goes that 25M some of you wanted to spend on the “outsiders”. Does anybody think Hawk is playing to the kitty? I’d say he has turned out to be a pretty good fit in the 3-4.

  • Pack4life

AJ Hawk 7 million. I would rather pay 3 times that for the instant gratification of Julius Peppers.

  • http://www.packernet.com admin

I’ll take Hawk over Peppers any day. Peppers is a T.O. waiting to happen. Hawk is a young, up-and-coming player who is a class act. Perfect for what we do. And Hawk is only due 4.6 mil next year, not 7. He is due 10 mil though in 2011, which will have to be re-negotiated.

WOW!! Rocky is back with a vengence!! Way to stir the pot dude. I haven’t seen this much bickering over nothing in weeks.
I myself have asked for MM and TT’s head on numerous occasions, but am very happy that things have turned around. I still feel that there’s a long way to go as this team seems to have trouble keeping the throttle down when they’re ahead. I feel that the opposing teams are able to make much better half-time adjustments than the Packers do and I feel that this is a direct reflection of the HC.
I was very happy when TT moved up in the draft to get Mathews, but now I’m thrilled that he did it. 2nd best pick of his career as far as I’m concerned. I’m really hoping he continues to make impact player selections in the upcoming draft and not just grab project players.
I still don’t believe that to be a “real fan” you have to agree with every decision the team makes or not criticize them (OT’s and kicker/punter). However, I think with LarryTex’s help, I’m starting to understand TTs vision and will hopefully be less critical of him.
Happy Holidays Pack fans… Lets hope Santa will deliver the Packers to the playoffs…

I better watch it, or I’m going to be considered a LarryTex ballwasher soon.

If Holmgrens Way gets that Cleveland gig, maybe TT can find a way to pry Joe Thomas outta there.

This is a post I copped from a Packer forum a few weeks back……… I’ve tried to clean it up abit but not too much ………. The post was directed at an individual poster…. I’ve replaced his name with XXXX ………… It may or may not apply but the post does have its merits, regardless.

” Fans” like XXXX are a bunch of weak cowards that have to hedge their emotions, scared of their emotions like little bitches, afraid to believe in something that loses.

Complain and whine about everything, every time the team loses, XXXX and his buddies are right. They called it. XXXX wins, he is the king-shit. No need to experience the emotions of the loss. F*ck those idiots TT & MM.

But both sides of the coin can be played, “I cheer for the same team”. That way when the team wins, XXXX wins again. XXXX never loses.

Even more f*cked up, is the fact that he is actually a Packer fan. He can claim loyalty, but then again, you’d think that he’d have some loyalty to himself and an ability to believe in something. To actually pick a team he believes in and follow them. Might he have some sort of personal code of loyalty preventing that, not likely, as he doesn’t even have loyalty to himself.

Like I said, just a pu$$y bitch way to be a fan, afraid of what it feels like when the team you believe in fails. Hedge your emotions by hating everything they do, and you are always a winner. “

Anyone have an opinion as to how/why SF beat Arizona twice…we may see them in the playoff’s. If anyone cares that is!

  • Pack4life

If everything goes to plan the vikes are superior up front on both sides of the ball, I can never accept that as the status quo. Case in point they treated the Bengals like naughty children. Right now we are not the best team in the division, and will have to be on the road for the playoffs. Its better than than not making the playoffs. Seeing the Vikes as the #2 seed in the NFC is not an acceptable outcome. No amount of good draft choices is going to fix this in the near term. They have beat us in the arms race. They will rub our nose in it until we can stop them.

  • Oddball

At the start of this year, there were serious questions about whether this team was closer to 6-10 or 13-3. Personally, I thought them closer to 6-10, but the additions of Raji, Matthews, Capers and the fire and brimstone play of Woodson have really elevated the defense. Collins seems to be in better position on a regular basis, and Tramon Williams is coming close to covering the #2 WRs.

Sad as I am to admit it, the D has played much better without Kampman. I hope the guy lands soft somewhere in the AFC and spends the next couple years making the end of Manning’s career freaking miserable. Houston maybe??

All in all, that’s pretty fair progress over the course of a year, and while I think even the most ardent of supporters must admit that our schedule has been soft, the record reflects that improvement.

  • Oddball

    Rocky,

You are a first class shit bird.

    Good day to you, sir.

  • Pack4life

Crying aloud shame!! After not playing much the begining of the season Clay Matthew has made a charge to defensive rookie of the year. Before the start of last week he was tied with Brian Orakpo with 7 sacks. Then Bruce Gradkowski got hurt, and Orakpo gets 4 sacks vs Jermarcus “no hustle Russell”. A crying shame. For Matthews to have a chance he needs at least 3 on Big Ben.

  • Sammy

Rocky is a narcissist. It gets annoying but his behavior won’t change. Everyone will have to just deal with it………………..

What concerns me is that the Pack has yet to beat an elite team. The Cowboys were falling apart, Ravans injured on defense, beat the lions and Bears twice, fell apart against the Bucs and the Minnesota Brett Favre’s killed us twice.

I have been saying that we are getting hot at the right time, but are we hot enough to beat the Saints, Colts, Vikings, Chargers?

I don’t think MM is the man to get the team ready for an “elite” team. I hope I am wrong……

  • http://jlworden1suddenlink.net LarryTex

Geez, Pack(no more 4, BF lover), get real. Why should we pay 3X when were #1 now? Doesn’t make sense. You sure love those MINs.
So what if they are superior now, its a team of vets w/ a couple of exceptions and a Rent-A-Quarterback. Where will they be two years from now?
I will make a leap and conjecture that the Pack4 denotes a split loyalty this year as opposed to 4-ever.
And Sammy, DAL is not an elite team NOW because among others we knocked them off. BAL either, because we knocked them off. No excuse for the BUC, we blew it. BF far from KILLED us; we beat ourselves. I don’t think we are going far in the playoffs, we’re too young. But, its going to be an eye opener for the kids and bodes well for the future. I’m stoked again.

  • Sammy

Get real Larry. You probably thought we were great during the Randy Wright years. I love the Pack but also can be realistic. Are we good enough to beat the Saint, Colts, Chargers, etc?….I hope so, but I would not bet money on it.

  • Pack4life

Tex I am not a cheerleader but a realist. The Pack is not the #1 defense in points only yards. The only starter in this scheme that generate consistent rush is Matthews. Peppers from the other side would negate any advantage the Vikes have. AJ Hawk is only now playing like an NFL starter. I have nothing but hatred toward the horned swedes but they have beat us 3 straight. Capers is doing all he can but he is at a competitive disadvantage. The vikes have two roiders manning the middle and the only holes on their defense are the safties. We are better at LB and secondary.
On offense there is no comparison. Assuming the Qbs are a push, RB OLine they have us totally overmatched negating any advantage we have at TE & WR.

Lets put the Vikes out of the equation, what Stephen King scenario would have to take place for the Packers to beat the Saints?? I watched the saints overcome a 24-3 score in one quarter. 2007 was a missed opportunity and one that may not come again.

  • AATP

2007 will come again – nothing but positives right now – lots yet to be done but nothing but positives… Are we good enough to beat the Saints or Colts? I don’t think we are…yet. Could we be? Absolutely, and I also believe we can do it with a healthy team. We have the talent (and I think I said this back at the beginning of the season as well) to really be a great team. The OL being the only area of REAL doubt right now. Special Teams can be corrected and IS the most diverse group since it changes every year so that comes down to the ST coach more than anything. If he doesn’t get it done then he will be replaced come the end of the season. Other then that I’ve seen some very intriguing things. The running game is taking off, the D is strong, maybe not the #2 ranking they hold now but in the top 10 overall as they don’t give up and they all have endless motors. Is that enough to get us the wins we need? I think it’s enough to get us past any of the first round playoff teams and into the second round for sure. Once we get into the Elite numbers of the Saints and Viqueens I prefer we play the Saints. Can we beat them? Maybe – we haven’t seen each other all year, the Viqueens already have our number. I think we’ll see another 2007 only this time we’ll be beat by the better team, not by our own player.

  • packer_bob

Well, well, well! Look who’s back all of a sudden—our old pal Rocky! I think I called it some weeks ago. It would take either a resurgent Pack or Favre’s arm falling off to elicit your return, perhaps we can continue the win streak AND Favre’s arm will off! Your points about spending so much time busy with other sites the last few weeks sound like the excuses of a felon who has been “visiting a sick relative” but whatever, welcome back!

About the Packers, I will say we have done so much better since the TB game it’s not even funny. TT’s vision and moves for this team have worked so far in the second half of the season, MM deserves credit for not losing the team if not for his (ahem) coaching and challenging brilliance, and we should very easily eclipse my pre-season expectation of 9-7 or better. Some of our young players have stepped up and getting our old bookend tackles back has clearly steadied the line. Rodgers is getting rid of the ball sooner and playing great, Grant is running harder. I say cheers all around!

We have a few more games to round it all into form, and then we take our chances in the playoffs. At this point, with a break or two, it wouldn’t surprise me to win a playoff game but then I also have to admit that with some of our recurring problems one and done wouldn’t shock me. We were Jeckyll and Hyde in the first 8 games, and even during this win streak we have often been the tale of two teams. I see no reason at this point to think that will change.

But after the 4-4 start, I will be happy to get into the playoffs and take my chances from there. Sure beats the collapse ala last year I was afraid of after the TB loss. Let’s see how it plays out. Go Pack Go!

  • http://Orlando Mark

We are a team on the way up. Now that we have our veteran OT’s back we won’t miss as many blitzes. We also get another big break this week because Polomalu is out. Roethlisberger holds onto the ball even longer than #12 so we should have sack opportunities.
One odd note is that safeties are underrated and underpaid by NFL standards. When Reed(Ravens), Phillips(Giants), or Palomalu go down their defenses suffer noticeably. We have a pro bowl safety as well and I hope he gets paid so we won’t lose him like we did Sharper. If there is still any lingering doubt about how much we missed him just look at who his replacements were. Rouse looked good at the draft combine but for some reason that doesn’t translate to production in live action. The good ones seem to be high picks and we can’t invest in a #1 or #2 when we have other needs.
