Nice to see all three QBs get a TD

  • Rick

I think Sherrod is not going to be the LG. Lang looked better in game situations.

  • Rick

Also did you notice Gordy was in the 1st team’s dime packages instead of Bush? I think he made the 53 roster

  • Larry

I guess that leaves Lee on the outside of the 53. Bush will stay as a 6th CB/safety and House has probably shown enough upside to keep as the 4th or 5th CB with Gordy. House wouldn’t clear waivers to make the PS that’s for sure.

I didn’t see the game…whose the backup RT behind Baluga?…Newhouse? or is Sherrod going to try his luck there?

    • Rick

IDK… I think 11 DBs may stick this year and Lee too.
Can’t teach speed and scheme. Is Lee able to handle the 4th-5th or 6th receiver on an opponent’s team better then Bush. I say yes.

  • Rick

I don’t think MM has made an official decision but from the game film and practices my gut says the start of the regular season depth chart will look like this:
LT Clifton / Newhouse / Sherrod
LG Lang / Sherrod / McDonald
    C Wells / McDonald /
RG Sitton / McDonald / Sherrod
    RT Bulaga / Sherrod /

As Sherrod improves he can become back up LT or even challenge Lang for Guard but he is just not up to speed now. Give him til end of October to get up to NFL speed.

    • Packer’s Advocate

Agree that Sherrod is a game day inactive til he gets up to speed. Hope they practice him where they want him (at least the rookie year). Other option is Bulaga behind Clifton w/Newhouse behind Bulaga at RT. Requires two moves vs. one but probably puts the best lineman, at that point, at LT.

  • Packer’s Advocate

I think alot of things are starting to come into focus. Lang is LG.

From the game “what up w/the PI call on Williams?” Officials starting it already????

Seems the Card’s D-linemen were getting off the blocks too clean and w/balance to go make the tackle. Our guys have to knock off their balance at the dis-engage.

I don’t like seeing AR sacked but that first one by the Cards was a beauty. The single blocked guy charged hard in and the double teamed guy pushed in and towards his guy and used him and his blocker for a perfect pick. Nothing the O-line could do. Hope the Pack took notes on that one.

Looks like this year when the Pack lines up in the “Big Five” they could do it w/either WR’s or TE’s!!! Five TE’s would be a big five!!!

Feeling a little better about Wynn and C.J. Wilson. Just had no idea how they would do and didn’t have a lot fo faith at this point, but it looked like they held their own. Depth was good (and important) last year. The Pack has lost Jenkins now along w/Jolly and Harrell, that were part of the plan just a couple years ago. They’ve done well as some teams may not have recovered??? Hopefully Wilson is OK and Neal returns soon.

I’m hoping the guy opposite CMIII becomes a stud this year. That’s what needed to keep this D in the top and assending. Greene as LB coach makes me feel much better about it all. “Dream Team” D staff!!!!!!!!……………… I keep saying it!!

Alot of good things from the game and some not so good, but getting a feel for how they should do this year and they should be pretty OK.

Some pluses on offense but it’s time to stop experimenting with the line and get the starting unit ready to play. Poor pass rush again and the outside backers didn’t do much.

  • Mel e Mel

Sherrod is a victim of the lockout. This shoehorn attempt to put him at LG is a joke. The whole putting him at LG with no offseason proves that Lovat is not up to snuff. The franchise is at stake and its obvious Sherrods head is swimming.

    • http://Orlando Mark

Mel this reminds me of when they tried to replace Wells with Spitz. That was a complete waste of time. But, as you point out, at least Spitz wasn’t a rookie without off season camps. I hope they aren’t messing up Sherrod who’s got loads of talent but needs all the reps he can get at tackle.

  • Mel E Mel

I wouldnt be as upset but Lang played meaningful downs in the NFC Championship game. Let him get his deserved shot. I believe Sherrod has more natural ability than Bulaga or Newhouse but there is no way to get him up to speed. Lang handled Julius Peppers in the NFC championship game. Last real game Sherrod played he was manhandling that school in Ann Arbor. No comparison.

    • Packer’s Advocate

Definately agree that Lang has looked decent in the little he’s played. Settle him at a spot and let him get some playing time, he might turn out OK.

    • Rick

I have to be honest Lang is doing okay at LG but he grades out much lower this year then Colledge did last year in camp. It may have been a slight mistake to let Colledge go as a FA.

Playing time in the next two games will show us more.

      • Packer’s Advocate

I was also thinking back to his rookie year and the snaps he played then. Long time ago in football though.

  • Doug R

How about signing Leonard Davis for OG insurance policy? He’s still out there, so that tells you something but I’m surprised we haven’t brought him in.

  • Larry

Rick posted a good 53 roster…but it assumes MM doesn’t keep Harrell as the 3rd QB. That domino could easily change the outcome for a TE, WR, or DB that’s on the fringe. IMO a WR is the easiest to hide on the PS. Gordy or House would be picked up by another team. Taylor, Bush seems to be attached to special teams, maybe Quarless or Crabtree is the odd man out.

Give Lang the majority of the snaps over the next couple of weeks and he’ll be good to go.

Rick’s attempt at the final 53 is as good as anybody’s at this point; if I had to guess, Harrell stays and one from amongst Underwood, Lee & House is jettisoned. House was the last pick in Round Four and has barely played in camp; he seems like a good possibility for the practice squad or maybe PUP, especially with Gordy coming on. Underwood and Lee have both had many chances and for one reason or another, leave themselves vulnerable.

      • Rick

He (House) will get picked up by the Bears or another team needing CB depth. To dangerous to PS because then you have to cut a guy and sign him to the 53 roster to keep him.

You can hide Harrell. He is not a starter and nobody will take a development QB that has not been in their camp at the begining of the regular season.

I do agree I was heavy on DBs but that seems to be the make up of the team and the number of Nickel, Dime and Quarter/Psycho formations Capers ran means 2 safeties and either 3, 4, or 5 CB on the field at once.

  • iccyfan

I think you’re over-valuing Davon House; he didn’t play against stellar competition and nearly all scouts categorized him as raw (read not ready to contribute). He’s dinged a hammy and barely played in preseason. At 6′, he fits our mold for a CB but not that employed by every other team. I don’t see another team signing such an unproven commodity to their 53, but I’ve been wrong before. Having said that, I think Underwood is probably the guy in jeopardy; with his lackadaisical first two seasons and off-field issues, coupled with his present hamstring injury, his future with the GBP is cloudy. He needs to get on the field and make an impression…

    • Reid

I agree, Underwood is gone. TT doesn’t cut guys immediately who get in trouble or bad-mouth the team, but they don’t make cut downs, don’t get new contract offers, and don’t make final rosters, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jolly meets the same fate if/when he is allowed to play again.

    • Rick

I could be overvaluing House as he did last to round 4 in the draft. However a team with an inadequete secondary would be crazy to not pick up a developing 4th round CB for rookie minimum and no picks or players lost in a trade. It is like an extra free 4th round pick just feel into their laps.

      • Rick

…..just fell into their laps. King Typo strikes again :)

  • Packer’s Advocate

I’m thinkin’ Green Bay doesn’t have enough guys named Green……….. Howard Green, Alex Green, Kevin Greene, and just a bit ago Ahman Green.

    • http://Orlando Mark

P-A, I think the Browns had seven coaches or players on the team named Brown in 1962.

      • Packer’s Advocate

That is incredable!! What are the odds?

  • iccyfan

Frank Zombo out with a broken shoulder blade; I thought Vic So’oto had a chance before this injury – his odds just got better…
or maybe Lattimore makes a move…

    • Rick

Depends on whether MM and TT put Zombo on PUP and buy time and keep another guy on the roster.

I think they will not since Zombo should be back by week 2-4 and on PUP it would mean week 6-9

  • Larry

I side with Rick on House…TT usually allow drafted players a year to develop and a fourth should be a 5th or 6th CB on most any team. Hell a fourth round pick is higher than Williams and Shields combined. IMO, Harrell given his MM training will not make the PS this year…Some WC team will sign him onto their 53.

I’m thinking GB should stick with any player in the Crayola box…Gilbert Brown played some good ball, also, some guy named White sacked a QB or two. Seems to me we had a Gray corner as well.

    • iccyfan

No problem – we’re all big Packer fans and want the team to do well! I would agree with your “time to develop” scenario in years past, but we have a strong roster now and CB isn’t an immediate area of concern. I just don’t think House’s draft position (supplemental pick at end of fourth) is a big enough deal to guarantee him a roster spot, especially considering his camp injury and the fact he’s shown nothing. Remember, TT dealt our original fourth round pick with House sitting there with his supposed “second or third round grade”. For the exact same reasons, I don’t see another team chomping at the bit to pick him off our practice squad. Of one thing I think we can agree; we trust TT to keep the best 53. I just think House has to get on the field and show something to be one of those select few…

    • iccyfan

Forgot to add this – they pup’d James Starks with a hamstring last season; if House doesn’t make it back for preseason games 3 & 4, I’d expect the same for him…

  • Mel e Mel

This is glorious. The Bears Run Dfense is atrocious. Grant,Green and Starks :-) Just like Tinker Evers and Chance.
