Really?

I know it was only the first preseason game but the Green Bay Packers could not have looked any worse than they did tonight. In a pathetic display of football the Packers fell 17-0 to the Arizona Cardinals, one of the worst teams in the NFL last year.

Already without second round draft pick Eddie Lacy the Packers lost their first round pick Datone Jones to an ankle injury. This is not shaping up to a good season for the Packers. Like most of Mike McCarthy’s teams, injuries have ended their hopes before they even get started.

Aaron Rodgers looked like his normal self but there wasn’t much else to rave about on offense. Graham Harrell looked horrible in extended action.  In fact, newly signed Vince Young, while only being in Green Bay a week, showed enough that I think the Packers need to groom him as Rodgers backup. Harrell couldn’t hit the broad side of barn if his life depended on it.

The performance of the Packers’ defense was almost as putrid as the offense. I can’t think of one standout play by anybody other than a Johnny Jolly run stuff. Actually, I remember Jolly damn near getting a sack on a long completion by the Cardinals too. He’s probably my game MVP.

It just makes you wonder what the Packers were practicing the last three weeks. As a person who has very low expectations for this team heading into this year, I can’t say I am surprised. I’m getting the feeling that Mike McCarthy’s message is getting old.

Aaron Rodgers is just unbelievable and if you didn’t know better you’d think Mike Sherman is still our coach. Another coach wasting the talents of the best quarterback in the league.
