Read-option not kind to the Packers

The Green Bay Packers will try to stay on a roll tomorrow against the Carolina Panthers in Lambeau Field, but to do so they will have to find a way to win against a premier read-option quarterback in Cam Newton.

The Packers have not had much luck against the likes of Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson so Newton is probably licking his chops in preparation for this game. The Packers defense, while playing better the last two weeks, is still dead last against the run.

The Panthers’ defense has not been as stellar as last year and were lit up last week by an A.J. Green-less Cincinnati Bengals. That may allow this game to turn into a shootout, which is the Packers’ best chance to win I think.

My fear is the Panthers slowly and methodically work the clock and keep Aaron Rodgers and company on the sidelines. I see either a 34-31 Packers win or 17-13 Panthers win. Kind of leaning toward the latter.
