Packers have chance to make a statement

The Green Bay Packers have an opportunity to stake their claim as the best team in the NFC on Sunday by defeating their latest archenemy, the Seattle Seahawks. Beating Seattle this year will not erase memories of the Brandon Bostick game last year but will indeed establish the Packers as the team to beat in the NFC this year.

Packernet faithful may not be happy to hear it but I am fairly confident the Packers will get the job done on Sunday. Not quite sure why considering the Packers’ recent history with teams from the NFC West. The Packers were never able to get over the San Francisco 49ers hump even though two of the three games were in Lambeau. Something just feels different this time. Maybe after two straight trips to the Super Bowl I just don’t see the same Seahawks team this year. The Packers may be catching them on the slide.

Of course, the Seahawks will be a super motivated team after losing their last two meaningful games in embarrassing fashion. What better way to turn things around than beating the team everybody thinks is going to take your throne?

I think this will be a low-scoring, hard fought game. A game that if the Packers’ win, they will be able to use to show they are more than a finesse team. Offensively, with the bulldozing Eddie Lacy, they have somewhat removed that stigma, but defensively, they are still Clay Matthews and nobody else. And Clay is not exactly known as a physical player.

The Packers will have the advantage of the “twelves” this time and while the players say they are not thinking about last year’s game, you can bet the fans there will be. Lambeau may be the loudest it has been since Brett Favre returned for the first time as a Viking.

I think the Packers will be able to contain Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch enough to eke out a 17-13 win.
