McCarthy firing march continues in Nashville

If you thought the Green Bay Packers hit rock bottom last week in Green Bay against the lowly Colts, think again. Today the Packers were thoroughly embarrassed by another NFL bottom feeder, this time losing 47-25 to the hapless Tennessee Titans with Mike Mularkey as head coach. Are you kidding me?

The Packers were never in this game after giving up a 75-yard touchdown run on their second defensive play. They had a penalty on the first one. If you thought they were lifeless and without energy last week, they were absolutely sleepwalking this week. How this team can play that bad two weeks in a row is mind boggling. Or is it?

Yes, the Packers are being poorly coached right now, but the fact is they don’t have very many good players, either. General manager Ted Thompson has failed miserably the last four or five years in finding sustainable talent for this team and the Packers’ 4-5 record reflects that. At this point I am not sure they can win another game this year.

Looking at this with the big picture in mind it is probably a good thing, much like 2005 was was with the firing of Mike Sherman and hiring of the Mike McCarthy. The only difference is I think the both the GM and the coach are going to be fired this time. The new GM will make the call on the coach and that call should be to Jon Gruden. If Gruden doesn’t want it I would go hard after Jim Harbaugh.

Looking at the rest of the season the Packers are on the road the next two weeks on national television against the Redskins and Eagles. Can’t see any way they win either of those games. After that they have Houston and Seattle at home, both of those are likely losses as well. Finally, they have a gimmie win in Chicago, the Vikings at home and Lions in Detroit. The Lions will probably have the division locked up by then so the Packers could win that one.

I’m thinking 6-10 at best right now. Take it to the bank and cash it.
