Surprise, surprise

Some of the decisions that were made in selecting the 2007 version of the Green Bay Packers
have impressed me.I’ll start with the kicking situation between Mason Crosby and Dave Rayner. Many were waiting for the first kicker to blink but neither did. I just hope Mason’s last kick wasn’t a sign for things to come… in missing of the 52 yd FG.

Another decision that should help out is the trading for Ryan Grant from the Giants for a lower round pick. With the RB situation on shaky ground at best. I thought that Green Bay would go after Mike Bell or Selvin Young of the Broncos or Pierre Thomas from the Saints as both (Broncos and Saints) make their roster cuts. I’m still hoping that the Packers pick up one of those backs mentioned (Young, Thomas) even though they already traded for one. Brandon Jackson will be ready to go after recovering from a mild concusion and the surprise is that Green Bay kept Wynn. So it looks that in the long run the backfield should be in better position as the season goes on.

The tight ends that were kept included Bubba Franks and Donald Lee. Thats it, its very possible that Ted Thompson is waiting for better options with other tight ends that get cut.

To have eleven defensive lineman and ten defensive players in the secondary is saying that the strength is not the linebackers but the defensive line and secondary. For the second straight year the linebackers are lacking in depth. Hopefully the Packers put some linebackers on the practice squad. But the defense as a whole should be special in 2007.

Now its time to just cut it loose and let the players do what they love to do and that is play the game. Final record for the year should be 10-6 but if a lot of injuries happen then its a toss up.

Go Pack!!!
