Jets can’t walk the walk

First of all, I would like to congratulate all of those who thought the Packers could beat the Jets. You must really know football. You have to look at all the numbers, not just a number about this or that. One number I find interesting is zero. That’s the number of points the Jets scored against the Packers Sunday. That is also the number of turnovers the vaunted Jets defense forced.

That’s right folks, zero. My, does pride cometh before fall or what? The self-proclaimed “best team in the NFL” looked anything but against the Packers’ swarming defense. The Packers only needed one point to win and Jet’s coach Rex Ryan gave it to them with a fake punt on a 4th-and-18 deep in their own territory. Ryan said his punter called it on his own, which is even worse. Who’s coaching this idiot?

The Packers were not intimidated one bit and while they played close to the vest offensively, special teams and a big-play defense were enough to beat the overrated Jets. The Packers beat the “the best team in the NFL” with four bums picked up off the street or off waivers the last two weeks.

Offensively quarterback Aaron Rodgers played as conservative as I’ve ever seen. It kind of reminded me of the way you used to have to play the tough Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense under Tony Dungy. You just have to pick your spots and take chances based on the way your defense and special teams are playing. The Packers did that well yesterday and even while only holding a 3-0 lead the game was only once in danger of being tied and that is when the Jets missed a 37-yard field goal.

Rodgers threw the ball away on several occasions, a couple of drops hurt too, but overall he did a great job of managing the offense against a really good defense. The Jets were number one in the NFL in defense last year and were 100% healthy for the first time this season. They played well, they were unable to come up with the big play.

You can’t say enough about the play of the Packers’ banged up defensive line, if they ever get healthy you can forget about running against them. Period. What they did to LT and Greene yesterday was unbelievable. Add in the play of Desmond Bishop and A.J. Hawk and you’re shaking your head. Love what Hawk is doing, nothing like a contract year to bring out the best in a guy.

The Packers now have to have the same intensity this week against the most dangerous 1-6 team in NFL history. Super Bowl favorites don’t start seasons 1-6 very often, and the Cowboys can still move the ball with the best of them. The Packers will need another top notch effort to avoid being upset at home just like the Jets just were.

I would think after seeing the Jets get overconfident it would help the Packers avoid the same fate. I sure hope so.

Finally, I have to finish with a little fun at the expense of our neighbors to the West. When the Joker asks Chilly “Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?”, Chilly can say “yes – twice.” Randy Moss is going to be waived after four weeks and a third round pick – you have to love it! The implosion in Minneapolis has got to be one of the funniest things I have ever had the pleasure of watching in all of sports.

See what you get when you sign free agents people! It started with Favre and adding Moss just threw fuel on the fire. In the end everybody will be gone – Favre, Moss and Chilly, who might actually be the first one to go. This is good stuff, I hear Oliver Stone has been lurking around the Twin Cities. You can’t make up story like this. See you next year Vikings, and pack your bags for L.A. and the NFC West. Sorry you couldn’t stay longer, losers!
