Draft Blog

Draft day is finally here. And the hype machine has reached new levels of madness. I have read probably 100 mock drafts and can never remember seeing them so scrambled. It should be a very interesting first round because I don’t believe a word I’m hearing from the ESPN’s and Jay Glazer’s of the world. Nobody is telling them sh crap and if they are it is a lie.

I have a few players I would like to see the Packers get and one that I would hate to see them get. That would be C.J. Mosley. The last thing the Packers need is another man on injured reserve. I want a receiver like Odell Beckham or newly rumored to Green Bay Marqise Lee. The Packers are woefully thin at receiver and they usually take a year to become starters, so the time is right to take one in the first round.

Safety is a position of need but I think the top two guys will be off the board by the time the Packers pick at 21. I don’t see the Packers moving anywhere unless it’s out of the first round but at that position they probably won’t find any dance partners.

I’ll be updating this post on a pick-by-pick basis until the Packers pick tonight, which could be anywhere from 2-4 hours. But it should be fun to watch.

7:16 PM:  Texans take Clowney. No surprise there. Safer than Manziel, but not by much.

7:25 PM:  Rams take tackle Greg Robinson. Now the games begin.

7:32 PM:  Yep, first shocker of the draft. Jags take Blake Bortles. Stays in Florida, will draw fans. Smart move.

7:37 PM: Bills snag Sammy Watkins via trade with the Browns. Interesting. Paid a heavy price to move up.

7:42 PM:  Raiders get a steal with Khalil Mack falling into their laps. Easy pick.

7:50 PM:  Falcons take Jake Matthews. No surprise, Matt Ryan needs protection.

7:54 PM:  Manziel still on the board, Bucs take wide receiver Mike Evans. Vikings are up.

8:03 PM:  Browns move up one spot to grab cornerback Justin Gilbert. Good, Detroit had their eyes on him too.

8:10 PM:  Vikings take linebacker Anthony Barr. Good. Didn’t want Johnny Football in our division.

8:13 PM:  The Lions get tight end Eric Ebron. That might cause some problems in the NFC North.

8:26 PM:  Titans take Michigan tackle Taylor Lewan. O-lineman are getting more and more valuable in the pass happy NFL.

8:29 PM:  Giants grab one of the guys I wanted in Odell Beckham. He may be good but he has bad hair!

8:37 PM:  Rams take NT Aaron Donald. St. Louis better be better this year. Still have questions at quarterback, though.

8:42 PM:  Bears take cornerback Kyle Fuller. Interesting, both Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor are still on the board. Bears took this guy specifically to cover Randall Cobb.

8:47 PM:  Another player I wanted is gone. Ryan Shazier goes to Pittsburgh.

8:54 PM:  Cowboys take Zack Martin. Very strange. Need more help on defense if you are not taking Manziel.

9:01 PM:  Well, I got my wish. Mosley goes to the Ravens.

9:10 PM:  Jets take Calvin Pryor. He would have looked good in Green and Gold. Thompson needs to bail out, nobody left worth it. Doubt he can move unless somebody wants Manziel.

9:18 PM:  Tackle Ja’Wuan James goes to Miami. I think Clinton-Dix is going to the Saints, who just jumped ahead of the Packers.

9:25 PM:  Saints take Brandin Cooks. Packers on the clock. Interesting. Packers will be taking either Ha Ha Clinton-Dix or Marqise Lee I think.

9:34 PM:  The Green Bay Packers select Ha Ha Clinton-Dix with their first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

While a receiver might have been a bigger splash pick, Clinton-Dix definitely fills a need. Hopefully he is able to start right from the start and provide a much needed boost to the middle of the Packers’ defense.

More to come…
