Packers getting better on offense despite injuries

The Packers’ strange season continues, just when you can pretty much count them out, the Packers’ offense comes alive with a bunch of youngsters at wide receiver and almost pull off what would have a been a huge upset for them in Atlanta. An offense that struggles to score with Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Ty Montgomery and Davonte Adams goes off for 32 points with Trevor Davis, Jeff Janis and Geronimo Allison. Go figure?

One thing can’t be debated, the Packers’ have come ready to play every week, even with injuries depleting them on both sides of the ball. That is a credit to head coach Mike McCarthy and his coordinators. It’s the one thing that gives me hope as the season wears on. If this team can make the playoffs, they might be able to do some damage if their health improves.

The Packers were without Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery on offense after the two combined for 10 catches their previous game and in addition to carrying the running game. Without them the Packers had to rely on basically no running game and still managed to put 32 points on the board. After Aaron Rodgers gave the Packers a six-point lead with an awesome TD pass with three-and-a-half minutes to go, the defense couldn’t hold it.

Of course, if you listen to Bob McGinn of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, it’s Rodgers’ fault the Packers’ didn’t win. He had, after all, 31 seconds to set up a 60-yard chip shot for Mason Crosby. Not sure why this guy continues to take shots at the Packers like he does. He was totally wrong on the Josh Sitton move, dude needs to move on.

But I digress. I was impressed for the second week in a row by the way McCarthy came up with a game plan to overcome his team’s deficiencies. I don’t care about the quality of the defense they were playing, when you have your JV team out there, 32 points is pretty good. And by the way, that Bears’ defense is pretty damn good.

I’m more worried about the injuries to the Packers’ secondary, they desperately need Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins back, we know Sam Shields won’t be back. This was the Packers’ position of strength before the season but now is in shambles.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers can’t be sleeping much these days trying to come up with a game-plan these days. Looking at the schedule the Packers don’t face a really strong passing offense other than maybe Washington and Detroit down the stretch so maybe he can figure something out.

I feel pretty good about this team right now, Rodgers is stepping his game up and I think McCarthy is too. Going to be fun to watch I think.
