Packers quietly winning the offseason

The Green Bay Packers, losers of two of the last three NFC Championship games have quietly been winning the offseason by addressing almost every need on the roster. Oddsmaker have taken notice, as most have the Packers with the third best chance to the Super Bowl this year.

Betting on the NFL is a crapshoot, trying your luck at Free Bets UK might be more fruitful. But if the NFL is your game then keep an eye on this year’s Packers. This team seems primed to get over the hump and return to the Super Bowl. It’s now or never.

Here is why I think they can do it.

On offense the Packers addressed two of their weakest positions with additions of Marty Bennett and three rookie draft picks, one, Jamaal Williams, could take over as starter sooner rather than later. Bennett brings a whole new dynamic to the Packers’ offense, not only is he a great receiver, he’s also a great blocker, and the Packers didn’t stop with him, they also brought in Lance Kendricks from the Rams for depth. The Packers will not be caught shorthanded this season at either of those positions.

Last year when Jared Cook went down the Packers got absolutely nothing from the tight end position. Same for running back when Lacy went down. Thankfully Ty Montgomery gave them something down the stretch but he was a non-factor in the playoffs. The Packers did lose guard T.J. Lang but picked up Jahri Evans in free agency, which could be a wash.

With a rejuvenated Aaron Rodgers over his mini slump and once again looking unstoppable, wide receivers Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams all healthy and ready to go, this is going to be one special offense. I have visions of the Patriots’ Brady to Moss year dancing in my head.

On defense the Packers will rely on a mix of newcomers and young players coming off injury to improve what was one of the worst defenses in the league last year. The addition of cornerback Kevin King and safety Josh Jones in the draft and return of Damarious Randall from injury will be keys to improving the secondary. They also resigned Davon House in free agency so it should be quite a battle in training camp.

A healthy Clay Matthews and Nick Perry will be huge for the linebacker position and I think Blake Martinez will bounce back and Jake Ryan will be better with a full offseason under his belt. The d-line should be fine with Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark and a rotation of guys. The defense doesn’t have to be great, but if it can get to 10-15 in the rankings the Packers will be a tough team to beat.

Now let’s hope nobody gets in trouble between now and training camp and we’ll get this thing rolling.
