From draft and develop to their loyal fan base, the Green Bay Packers have a reputation for more than just winning. Not the least of these things is their desire and ability to turn undrafted players into starters. As a result, Packers fans have more than just 7 or 8 drafted players to be excited about. For that reason, we’ll take several days to outline each of the Packers current UFA players. What are the pros, cons, and chances of making the team?

Overview

If the goal of the Packers in 2017 was to get meaner, which is an easy case to make, Evans is a fantastic addition. Currently the strongest player in Richmond history, Evans instills fear in his opponents and respect among his classmates.

Being a leader on a team and an offensive line that blocked for 3 straight thousand yard rushers also speaks volumes to the kind of player and man Evans is.

Dimensionally, Evans is 6’3 305 pounds. He ran the 40 yard dash in 5.15 seconds and put up 27 reps on the bench.

In terms of a comparison, although I definitely think his stature and demeanor make him best suited to be an interior offensive lineman, he is most similar to David Bakhtiari.

Pros/Cons

The big question mark and possible con to Evans game is his ability to be athletic in pass protection. Considering the importance of interior lineman in the pass rush in 2017, his ability to protect Aaron Rodgers is likely going to be the make or break for Evans in terms of his ability to play be a starter.

The pro would be what’s already been mentioned. Evans is a mauler and I would bet can hold his own in the run game. His leadership and intensity are also a welcome addition to any team.

Chances of making the team

The Packers have lost quite a few players along the offensive line, especially at the guard position which gives Evans a great opportunity, especially on a team that has done a lot with underdog lineman.

With that said, the Packers have added quite a few new faces including one through free agency, 1 in the draft, and three undrafted players.
