Live Packers offensive lineman watch

It’s pretty clear the Packers are in trouble with regard to the depth at offensive line. Aside from the fairly positive play of Kyle Murphy, the Packers have to rely on new players or none at all. With that in mind, Packernet will be keeping a watch on offensive linemen as they get cut around the league, giving insights into who they are and if they could be a potential fit.

Be sure to check in regularly as the article will update with each additional cut.

Players we like

Andrew Gardner, Guard, 49ers

Gardner is interesting. In his 5 years, Andrew started off with a terrible PFF grade. His next two years he starting climbing and was actually a very good guard. In 2016, however, he regressed and now in 2017 the 49ers cut him.

The 49ers have a terrible crop of guards so one would have to assume Garner has regressed significantly but it’s at least worth a look considering the dire nature of the Packers backups.

John Greco, Guard, Browns

Johnny G, how I’ve waited for thee! John Greco is a 9 year starter recently cut by the Cleveland Browns. According to PFF, his grade has never dipped below average and was rated as good in 2016, showing no signs of slowing down.

Greco was likely let go due to his age coupled with the Browns having one of the better lines in the NFL. This could be an incredible steal for the Packers.

Jeremy Zuttah, Center, Ravens

The first intriguing prospect of the group, Zuttah is a seasoned vet of 9 years. Zuttah was graded by PFF as being an elite player in 2008 and has been graded as average for the last 6 years.

The level of talent as well as the experience would be a welcome addition to a team in dire need of help in the center of the offensive line. Although not likely to start in 2017, Zuttah would be fantastic depth and would come at a discount being 31 years old.

All Linemen

Givens Price, Guard, Cardinals

There isn’t much to go on with Price but the little information we have is promising. Playing only one game, Givens was graded just below average by PFF. He was also considered a top offensive line prospect in the country coming out of HS.

The Packers likely want more of a veteran presence but this could be a good developmental prospect.

Brian Folkerts, Center, Panthers

Folkerts is close to making the good list but his play just isn’t quite where I think it would need to be. Graded by PFF as having a bad year followed by an even worse year, it’s safe to say the Packers won’t be interested.

Greg Pyke, Guard, Bills

Another name that I remember from the draft, Pyke ended up going undrafted. Apparently for good reason.

Cameron Jefferson, Tackle, Bills

UDFA tackle. Not interesting.

Jonah Pirsig, Tackle, Titans

Considering the level of talent on the Titans offensive line, taking a flyer on a cut Titans lineman might pay off. Probably not worth the risk though.

Josue Matias, Guard, Titans

UDFA cut by the Titans. Not what we need.

Norman Price, Guard, 49ers

He’s a guard, which is nice. Otherwise nothing really to like here.

Andrew Lauderdale, Tackle, 49ers

UDFA cut by a garbage team. No thanks.

Tim Barnes, Center, 49ers

Barnes is a veteran but he isn’t very good. He actually has never been good in his 5 years that he was graded by PFF. I’ll pass.

Victor Salako, Tackle, Eagles

Another Eagles UDFA, but this one I don’t know. Not much of anything here.

Tyler Orlosky, Center, Eagles

Although he’s an UFA, I remember his name. Orlosky was considered one of the drafts top centers. Depending on where the Packers put him on their board, he’s an interesting option.

As a side note. NFL.com lists him as being comparable to Corey Linsley.

Khalif Barnes, Tackle, Saints

As per usual, he’s a UFA. Packers don’t want that.

Jason King, Guard, Patriots

Patriots are pretty good at this stuff. I’ll trust this is a good call to cut him.

Isame Faciane, Guard, Dolphins

UDFA cut by a team with a less than fantastic line. Next.

Malcolm Bunche, Tackle, Jaguars

UDFA cut by the team that believed in you and actually tried you out isn’t a recipe for success in the NFL, even with a team as desperate as the Packers.

Justin Murray, Tackle, Broncos

Murray is an UFA that was cut by a team with a terrible offensive line. Probably not.

Dan France, Tackle, Panthers

Dan France is an UDFA that was signed this year. The Packers are likely looking for more experience at the position.

Brian Folkerts, Center, Panthers

1 of many centers, 1 of many free agents. If the Packers have a list of free agents they like they will have their pick of the litter.

Travis Averill, Center, Falcons

He’s a center, he’s a 2017 free agent, the Packers won’t sign him. That’s about it.

Richard Levy, Tackle, Giants

Levy is a tackle cut by a team that has absolutely 0 talent at the tackle position. Let’s just call this one what it is.

Taylor Boggs, Guard, Bears

Boggs has been a guard for the Bears for two years. In his first year he was graded as being below average by PFF and the Bears hoped to see a jump in his second year. Unfortunately for them, he regressed hard. In year three they cut him. Apparently they never got that jump.

D.J. Tialavea, Tackle, Falcons

Tialavea lacks any real solid experience, only playing two games in 2016, but both games were at the end of the year and he actually graded out as average by PFF.

It’s not much but there’s at least something to work with here.

Andreas Knappe, Tackle, Falcons

Knappe is a 6’9 Viking freak of a man. As is the case with many “freaks” that are taking as undrafted free agents, their one asset, in Knappe’s case his height, is all he really had to offer.

It’s possible the Packers are intrigued by the young man, but it’s unlikely.

Larson Graham, Center, Falcons

Another team with a good amount of talent on the offensive line, Graham is a young guy that didn’t quite cut it.

Kareem Are, Guard, Raiders

The Raiders have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. If you wanted to take a flier on a young guard that was cut by their team, the Raiders are a good team to look at.

Avery Young, Guard, Dolphins

Drafted as a tackle but listed by PFF as a guard, Young seems to have the versatility the Packers covet. Still, if it’s a veteran the Packers need to provide depth, they won’t find it here.

Mitchell Kirsch, Guard, Bears

Another rival currently in possession of one of our pro bowl caliber guards, the Bears released a young FA guard by the name of Mitchell Kirsch.

Unless the Packers had their eye on him at some point in this process and really believe in him, I don’t think we’ll be seeing him in green and gold anytime soon.

David Yankey, Guard, Panthers

A developmental player, Yankey has 1 season under his belt with the Carolina Panthers. It wasn’t a great year but if you’re looking for a project, Yankey is an option.

T.J. Clemmings, Guard, Vikings

Clemmings plays a position the Packers need, plays for a team the Packers are familiar with, and has some years of experience under his belt. From that perspective, this would be a great fit.

Unfortunately Clemmings wen’t from being horrible to being… A lot worse than horrible. Whatever word in your mind means “a lot worse than horribe”, that’s what he was.

De’Ondre Wesley, Tackle, Ravens

The Ravens are doing a great job of keeping me from getting that cup of coffee…

Yet another cut of an offensive lineman by the Ravens, Wesley is another guy the Packers will likely pass on. Considering teams need to have some information on a guy before they make a move to add them to the team, Wesley’s days spent on IR and then getting cut will probably not help his cause.

Best of luck out there Wesley.

Jarrod Pughsley, Guard, Ravens

Another player that is at least somewhat appealing, Pughsley has played with three different teams in three years, mostly riding the practice squad. In 2015 the Chiefs did promote Pughsley to the 53 where he played on the active roster.

His grade was sub par but still good enough to assume he’s better than what we currently have. How much you trust him without having time to evaluate him in person, I don’t know, but it’s an option.

Derrick Nelson, Center, Ravens

Listed as both a center and a guard, there is at least a small chance the Packers are interested in Nelson. That sort of versatility is what keeps a guy like Don Barclay on a teams 53 man roster year after year.

Still, at this point his counterpart Zuttah is a much better option.

Roubbens Joseph, Tackle, Ravens

The Ravens don’t have great talent for starters outside of Yanda but the rookies must have been even worse. The third Raven’s lineman to be cut already, Joseph is a 6’4 312 pound tackle.

Without the experience at interior line, or playing in the NFL in general, Joseph is also probably not high on anyone’s list.

Jarell Broxton, Guard, Ravens

Another Raven and another inexperienced undrafted player. Broxton is a 333 pound brute in the middle. Yet another guy that isn’t likely to be added to the Packers 53, Broxton would certainly be a large addition… for whatever that’s worth.

Connor Bozick, Guard, Lions

The Lions took one of ours, perhaps we return the favor. Okay, it isn’t likely but Bozick is at least playing a position the Packers need.

Bozick was brought on as a free agent this year but wasn’t able to make the cut.

Kitt O’Brien, Guard, Browns

Another unlikely candidate, O’Brien is a journeyman that has spent a good amount of time playing for arena leagues. O’Brian has gotten a few shots with different teams but never has it materialized to a starting job.

I would expect much of the same going forward and wouldn’t expect the Packers to put much effort into looking into him.

Mark Spelman, Center, TitansĀ

Another player without a ton of experience, Spelman was picked up as an UFA by the Titans in June of this year. Although the Packers may not a ton of interest in him, it’s entirely possible Mr. Spelman, a Waukesha native, has his fingers crossed to be brought in be the Packers.

Jeff Adams, Tackle, Jets

Although tackle isn’t the top need, any quality depth along the offensive line is something the Packers need to consider.

At 6’7, Adams has some unique physical attributes and his PFF numbers are right in line with what I would call “serviceable”, racking up two seasons with below average grades.

Josh Allen, Center, Buccaneers

Josh Allen is the first of the linemen to get the axe. taken by the Buccs, Allen didn’t impress in year one (2014), his only year to start, and considering he was cut, it’s not likely he produced very much in 2017.

Without much experience or reason to believe he has much to offer, it’s unlikely the Packers feel he can offer much. One interesting note is Allen being listed as a guard by PFF. If Allen has the ability to play center and guard there’s a least a small chance the Packers will look into it.
