Unexpected blowout leaves Packers 3-1

The Green Bay Packers dominated the Chicago Bears yesterday to the tune of 35-14. It wasn’t a blowout in the true essence of the word, but it was never in doubt. The Packers’ offense only gained 260 yards, but they took advantage of the turnover prone Bears to to put up 35 points in a game that was pretty much over six minutes in.

If you just look at the score of the game you would think the Packers probably rolled up four hundred yards and marched up and down the field. There is no doubt that kind of thinking will have an effect on the point spread at sites like BetNow Sportsbook. Packers-Cowboys might be a pick ’em by game time.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers might not have been spectacular, but it was certainly one of his best games considering the circumstances. He was only sacked twice behind a makeshift offensive line that had two new starters and a guard starting at left tackle. He helped the offense overcome the loss of Ty Montgomery and his backup Jamaal Williams. Then watched Davante Adams get knocked cold on a dirty hit from Bears’ linebacker Danny Trevathan. Talk about overcoming adversity.

The Packers may have found a running back in Aaron Jones. When forced into action the rookie showed up big time. At the least he earned more playing time. If Williams misses time he might have a hard time getting back ahead of Jones. Word now is Montgomery is not hurt seriously and may play at Dallas on October 8.

The Packers defense finally got a few turnovers, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Too bad they can’t play against Mike Glennon every week. Guessing this is the last time they ever play against Glennon.

Clay Matthews became the Packers all-time sack leader on the Bears’ first offensive play with a strip sack setting up the Packers’ second touchdown. That pretty much set the tone for the Bears’ offense all day. They were horrible. The Bears pretty much quit after falling behind 35-7. They were more than content to take nine minutes off the clock in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 35-14, then kicked deep instead of trying an onside kick. Not sure I have ever seen that before.

Anyway, it was a huge win for the Packers. To be so banged up and still be 3-1 is a miracle. Hopefully ten days off will help them get healthier heading into the meat of their schedule.
