Now we go

It is a now a seven game season for the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, one of which will emerge NFC North champions. I wanted the Bears to beat the Vikings yesterday, I didn’t really want them to look that good in doing so, however. I do still think the Bears are who I think they are and the Packers will win the division, but Chicago won’t go away without a fight.

As I watch the Eagles destroy the Redskins tonight one has to wonder how in the hell both the Packers and Bears lost to the Skins, they are horrible. The Packers do have a victory over the Eagles which may come in very handy down the stretch if wildcards come in to play. The way the Eagles are playing now it is hard for me to believe they won’t win the NFC East.

The Packers won’t have to worry about anything if they take care of their own business, starting Sunday in Minnesota. The Packers cannot afford a setback against the Vikings after resurrecting their season by beating the Vikings, Jets and Cowboys in succession.  A convincing win Sunday and the Packers can stake their claim as the NFC’s best when they travel to Atlanta the following week. Extend the winning streak to five and the Packers won’t be flying under the radar any longer.

First things first though and that is a Vikings team that is on it’s last leg, and you have no idea what to expect of them. I thought they were trying to win in spite of their head coach but now that didn’t work, so who knows what to expect of the soap opera that is the Vikings. I don’t know which is worse for the Packers, the Vikings having hope or not having hope.

They could come out like the Cowboys did yesterday, knowing the season is shot and play with no pressure on, or, if they think they still have a chance they will come out trying so hard to win that they play tight worrying about making a big mistake, and therefore, make the big mistake. Because of Brett Favre I think the Vikings still think they can turn it around, so I expect their best effort Sunday, I just don’t think their best effort is that good anymore.

It’s early in the week but I feel pretty good about the Packers’ chances to win this one. Like Aaron Rodgers says, just go out there and “run our stuff” and let the chips fall where they may. The stretch run has begun ladies and gentleman. No sleep ’till Dallas!
