Packers have avoided malcontents under McCarthy

It looks like the Green Bay Packers may have a malcontent on their roster, which under head coach Mike McCarthy is a rarity. After seeing PIttsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver Antonio Brown go all three-year old for not getting the ball on a play, it made me feel good that that stuff doesn’t go one in Green Bay.

Not normally, anyway. Cornerback Damarious Randall apparently had an issue with the coach last weekend and was sent to the locker room. While Randall’s outburst probably won’t affect the Packers odds for week five, it certainly is out of the norm for the Packers.

Since McCarthy took over I can only think of two instances where McCarthy had to work things out with a player. Those players would be Jermichael Finley and Charles Woodson. Maybe even Brett Favre a little there at the end, but that turned out OK in the end.

Jermichael Finley was a head case from the start. For a while it was one thing after another with him, both on the field and off. I was always a huge fan of his because he was an unbelievable talent. He was just starting to show it when his career was ended with by a neck injury his career in 2013. I think McCarthy turned him around, though, he was finally showing respect for his coaches and quarterback that year.

Charles Woodson’s story is a great testament to McCarthy’s ability to adjust and adapt to his players. While there is no doubt McCarthy wanted Woodson on his team, it was almost a last resort for Woodson. And it is well documented they didn’t get along at first. But they had a come to Jesus meeting and Woodson help lead the Packers to a Super Bowl win.

So it would not surprise me if McCarthy can turn Randall into a player. I think it is doable, but time is running short. The Packers’ defense is playing well and they can’t afford a weak link.
