Packers dominance diminishing division rivalries

The Green Bay Packers once again sit atop the NFC North, a place the are very familiar with. The Packers have won the division title five of the last six seasons. Even those interested in Aussie sports betting know the Packers are likely to win the division once again. And it’s even hard to determine the Packers’ biggest threat.

The Packers face the Minnesota Vikings Sunday in their second division game of the year. The Packers already have a blowout win over the Chicago Bears but don’t face the Detroit Lions until November 6. The Packers haven’t dominated the North the way the Patriots have dominated the AFC East, but they are heading that way. The bottom line is the other teams in the division just are not very good.

The Bears have been a complete non-factor since 2010. The Lions are the Lions, they play great for a while then fade down the stretch. They are good one year and suck the next. Never really a threat. Only the Vikings have given the Packers some trouble in recent years. They are the team that has the one out of the six.

The Packers’ oldest rivalry is the Bears, with the Lions second. The Vikings have only been around since 1961. To me, the Bears have always been the team I want to beat the most. The Bears embarrassed the Packers in the 80s and not until Brett Favre showed up did it start to turn around.

The Lions tried their best in the early 90s. Even last year they gave the Packers a run. But the Lions haven’t won the division since 1993. Last year’s win by the Packers in Detroit to win the division was pretty special. Might very well be the case again this year. The Packers play in Detroit on December 31.

Bottom line is, if the Packers beat the Vikings Sunday, I think the only team that can give the Packers a challenge would be the Lions. And I think the Lions will beat the Saints Sunday in New Orleans.

More to come…
