Can Donovan Jennings Help Maintain the 20-Year Streak for Green Bay?

The Green Bay Packers have had a UFDA rookie be a part of the 53-man roster for 19 years consecutively. The Packers had enough space to bring eight undrafted free agents this year since they had three draft classes in succession with two-digit draft picks.

This is down, compared to the 14 and 12 drafts in prior seasons. But this will be a challenge to continue the same streak this year. However, another candidate can extend this 19-year run to go to a two-decade run.

Donovan Jennings, the offensive lineman from the University of South Florida has the positional versatility to play tackle or guard. The Green Bay Packers love him enough to give him $10,000 as a signing bonus on top of the $100,000 guaranteed salary. This is important since it’s more than the salary that was given to any other UFDA in 2023.

Why Jennings?

Jennings is athletic with a solid build but not hulking in size, the perfect ground that the Packers prefer. He has above-average athleticism for guard and tackle, with a 9.65 score as a guard and an 8.93 athletic score as a tackle. While he lined up in college as a left tackle, he profiles as a player who can cross-train at guard.

During a rookie mini-camp, the Green Bay Packers started mixing Jennings at Guard. On the field, he has his ups and downs. Most of his downs are related to his availability. Due to an injury, he missed 11 games in the last two seasons.

His biggest strength is his good movement in the field and solid power. Not just that, he has a lot of experience, with 55 matches and 45 starts at the left tackle throughout his college career over six years.

Lance Zierlien, an NFL draft analyst said that Jennings possesses the nimble feet in pass protection, with an excellent composure and strong hands, that help him pass blocks.

What to Expect?

While the competition is a lot, Donovan Jennings can be expected to play on the interior or serve as backup at tackle. But, we expect to see Donovan Jennings continue his UDFA streak. The 2024 NFL season is set to start on September 5, 2024.
