All defense for the Packers

The Green Bay Packers finally entered the fray today with a clear objective of improving the defense. By taking two defensive backs and a defensive tackle, they may have done just that. With that done, I hope they can add some depth on offense tomorrow, as they are woefully thin at running back and wide receiver.

I do like Kevin King with the first pick, and Josh Jones seems like a safe pick, but those two picks are definitely an indictment on how poorly general manager Ted Thompson has been on defensive player acquisition the last few years. Just two years ago Thompson took two defensive backs one-two to solve one of the worst backfields in the league, not good having to do it again this year, a lot of other positions could have used the help.

The Packers need a running back more than their next breath, but choose to pass on Dalvin Cook and Joe MIxon, which is troubling. I can’t believe they think they can ride with Ty Montgomery, and couple that with Thompson’s failures with late round running backs and confidence is not high.

I hope it is all offense tomorrow, the Packers’ defense is never going to be good, not as long as Capers is running it. The Packers will need to outscore everybody just like Atlanta and New England did last year in getting to the Super Bowl. To do that they need weapons on offense, hopefully that is the day three focus.
